I can clearly see blooming on my 55" HX929 when letters are scrolling or when there is an image in a corner.. Blooming is obvious.

All this talk about blooming I mean really it's not that serious. Does not bother me at all (hardly even notice it) at least in my set. I'm coming from plasma with floating blacks, now that irritated the hell out of me. Blooming I can live with, does not take away from the amazing picture quality this set has. Give it a break already with the blooming. Sorry had to let that out, no offense to your first post

I agree.. it doesnt take away from the amazing picture and the picture is pretty good however I believe that its worse than on my 52 HX 909. Off angle viewing does get washed out but its still good.. There was a scene of the night sky and it was pitch black except for the stars in the sky and each star had blooming. I don't mind it and its not all the time im just saying...also when credits are scrolling at the end of a film you can see blooming and local dimming turning off and on certain parts of the screen.. I would have excpected that to be smoother.

anyone having problem with the wireless connection on their set? I can't find the network. My router does not broadcast my SSID so I have to enter it manually, I don't have any other security currently enabled. It can't find the network. My tivos with their wireless adapters are next to the tv and they have no problem.

turning on broadcasting my ssid allowed it to connect, but the browser was horrendously slow. it also said the sonystyle .com page it first tried to go to was too large!

I agree too. I've been watching my set every single day I have off and I'm still happy with it. Yes - I do see blooming, but only in rare instances (and I mean RARE). Realistically, I've only seen it when my PS3 has B&W prompts. Other then that, I hardly ever notice blooming in any of the video source.

I assure you this is exactly what I see with my eyes... as far as the blooming goes, anyway.

I'm not trying to flame or be OCD, I just want to know if this is normal. When some people are posting saying they have 0 blooming from center, I have to wonder if my particular set is defective when I see what I posted in the pictures above.

EDIT: One more pic... I'd just like to know if this is normal.

So this is the pic i promised to take. This has been calibrated and even thou it looks dark the TV looked amazing. I think the ambient light made my Canon not get the best of contrasts. I took it at 1/4 so to make sure there was no over exposure.

This was taken dead on in the middle. Like I've said before there is no blooming in the middle. But there was a bit more on the sides.. never as bad as the pic that i'm comparing mine to. But there is some.

This TV calibrated is freaking awesome.

But you WILL have to be changing settings depends on what you watching if you want the best PQ, and this would be for people who are VERY picky. otherwise General with a small calibration and you're all set.

if anyone else does not broadcast the ssid, please let me know if it works for you. I just went thru the chat support and all they wanted me to do was reset my router. My tivo wireless work so why not the sony tv?

I was supposed to get my 2 55's Friday from Ft. Worth. However, they weren't delivered to Longview. So, i guess it shall be next week. I wonder if this causes my head to bloom. I don't want anyone to take this as a flame or such, but the way i feel about this blooming stuff is that it is a set-to-set thing and really not as big of a deal as many of you are saying. There are so many things that can contribute to this issue. White being over-driven seems most plausible..

I know you guys are certainly trying to inform and get the flow of info going. I know you work real hard trying to catch the blooming with your cameras.

But, if i may be critical for a moment, i feel, personally, the pictures are not really portraying the issue at all. As an example, look at the green power lite at the lower left. It shows blooming in my eyes on the photos. I just don't feel it is an issue that is all that significant.

I had the problem of it being to large, and i updated the software on the tv, and it fixed that problem. And i just did that scan portion of the network connection, to find my router and it worked fine doing it that way.

So you own a 55HX929 AND a 52HX909?

How does the overall picture compare between the two? What about colors, viewing angles, motion and blacks? I would of thought the newer one is better...

I am considering both plasma (Samsung PN 64D800) and LCD/LED Sony 929 65". What are floating blacks exactly?

I hope the HX929 has an awesome picture.

I love my panasonic plasma and the PQ is awesome. Our two Samsungs are nice but the soap opera effect in HD is too much. My XBR2 is on its way out and I was offered the NX720, but I'm holding out for the 65" 929.

Sorry to interrupt. I thought the xbr65 hx929 is worth the wait (Cnet review)
Is the model scrapped off the market ?

I totally understand your concern.. and you're right.. you should read my review last page. It's a very honest review.

The biggest problem imo is that most us were expecting perfection, and the truth is that if you CALIBRATE this baby and you watch it from the middle it will be the best TV out there including most plasmas.

Here's the thing thou... if it's a very big deal i would suggest to disable the Led Dynamic control and calibrate it that way. the picture quality on this thing is incredible.

Turning that off defeats the whole purpose of this set. Its not that good once its off, in that case he might as well get a much cheaper set.

I think he means you turn it off only for the calibration.

Abt.com promised delivery on sep , but the site says it is a discontinued!
Can't see 65 inch model on display in best buy
How do they expect any one shell out 5 grand for a tv without a preview?

I heard from Sony Canada that the 65" HX929 wasn't due out till Aug-Sep and they have yet to receive pricing on it.

My point is - go back a few posts and look at the green power light on the set in the 2 pictures...It is blooming also... so all of this is mute in my opinion.
Calibrate the set..... knock down the WHITE gain..... and enjoy...

Guys, what about the 3D performance on the set? Is it inferior than the 2011 Samsung TVs ? That's what I heard from a friend

This tv is awesome! No other way to put it.

I have ben playing with wow blueray for 2days. The tv is really brite out of the box. But the picture is still great. Just watched some of tron 3d, and GT5. The 3d looks nice. Notice the local backlighting is turn off in 3d. I think my color and briteness are good.

Trying to find sharp settings I'm happy with. Also trying see how the Auto Light Limiter works. Says controls the backlight to reduce excessive brightness in bright scenes. Have it set to medium. Led backlight on standard.

Like how the bravia sync works. Have the ht-ct550w mounted above the tv. Nice having the tv able to control it.

Very happy with the tv. Wife and kids are very happy with it also. The 55 is really apears might be to big. lol

XBR55HX929/HT-CT550W, LN46A750/HT-WS1R, PS3 60g(now 320g WDblack), Xbox 360 60g, Wii, Gaming PC. Xbox Live:Fordlighting, PSN:Gatorsnack.

In the manual i downloaded, it says to first turn this switch on. Is such a switch actually on the unit, and have you been turning it on ?

Also, does a menu appear to select 'Home' mode ?
