Starting to mess around more with the TV widgets - can't seem to find Amazon Video on Demand widget. I think a poster mentioned this a couple pages ago and I have to agree wth them - can't find it either Anyone find this? I read Amazon's site and it mentioned to look in the Yahoo area and no widget there for it.

I keep my c8000 at 8, my d8000 set to 10. Anything higher is too bright for me.

It's set to 10 after calibration or are you just going by your eye? Do you mind posting the rest of your settings?

I got my d8000 on Thursday this week and I too saw this right away when watching movies, but mine seems to be lighting not only in corners, but on the entire left side. How many more are noticing this? Is this something I should think about for an exchange?

A couple other observations:

- I previously had a c7000 and returned it due to the "blinking" and gaming lag. The AMP for the c7000 was fantastic, and I am not seeing the same performance from the d8000. I usually kept the c7000 on 'standard' for AMP settings and I never had to change it. Even with 'judder' settings on the d8000 turned all the way up, I am still seeing artifacts of it. Anyone else having this issue. I realize that AMP is not perfect, but I felt they nailed it on the c7000. Could it be that it just needs a software update?

- Saturday I was messing with all of the video settings and at some point, turned on the cinema black. After exiting the movie on the PS3, I noticed the top and bottoms of the PS3 home menu were still real dark. Even after going back into the menu to turn this setting off, it still persisted, it would only go away after I turned the TV off then back on. Probably an easy fix a sw patch.

- Seeing a lot of 'ghosting' in darker scenes. I call it ghosting but not sure what the technical term is. I notice it when viewing a dark screen and seeing a lighter object move, especially around the eyes and ears of faces. It looks as if the pixels going from light to dark are not updating quick enough and are leaving trails of color behind. I almost never see this when the screen is mostly lighted and darker objects move across (which is what I noticed a lot on the c7000).

I saw someone posted earlier about a panel lottery for the d8000, has anyone confirmed this, and if so, what s/n should I be looking for?

Would also like to thank those who have started and contributed to this thread.

Exactly my interest too, still looking and no luck. It is interesting that on the product page on Amazon it mentions linking the D8000 to video on demand but no way I can see to access the widget on the TV.

A note to all Netflix users - I received a "cannot activate device" error message just now for the first time and went to my Netflix account and I have not exceeded # of devices and my TV shows up as registered. Went to the troubleshooter and I indicating I can't play anything then it asks what device am I trying to play from and there was an option for the Samsung 8000 series LED TV!! The troubleshooter told me to reboot the TV or call Samsung for support. I rebooted and still no luck. I have other devices I can stream Netflix from like the PS3 but I'd like the widge to work!

There is a divx video on demand in the system menu, my guess is that this is what they are talking about and not amazon?

I was wondering if someone can help me. I was in best buy today looking to buy the un55d8000, but there was excessive grain in both the Animal Planet and Clash of the Titans blu-rays. And when i say excessive, i mean it was so bad it was the kind of quality you would get from a 700mb 2 hour long divx movie.

I turned off all video processing and went through all the notable picture settings to sharpen the picture, but nothing worked. It frankly looked horrible and my girlfriend-whom i was trying to convince to help purchase it--was not impressed. (Even the best buy guy was surprised.)

Now granted we were standing between 3 and 5 feet from the screen, but i can't imagine proximity would cause such a degraded picture quality. All the other sets looked fine at that distance.

Indeed, when i got home i checked clash of the titans on my 46 inch xbr8 and got a couple of inches away from the screen and it was Noticeably sharper. Like it wasn't even a contest. Could this degradation be caused by the 9 inch increase in panel size? The result of the source pixel count being only so big and getting stretched? Or could the showroom floor Tv just been a lemon?

Does anyone have any ideas here, and has anyone experienced this? I really want this tv, but we walked out of best buy shaking our heads. All the other tv's looked way better including my own.

ps. both animal planet and CotT were playing from a blu-ray player hooked directly up to the tv so it wasn't a source issue.

Yes!
I saw the samething!

But the movie was "Under the Sea".

The source was a samsung 3D Blu-ray player.

As a prior 65C8000 owner (took it back after a week because of Backlight issues) this has me concerned.

Is this really a problem that we all need to focus in on?

Eh, I guess its up to the thread owner but there are some pretty big differences between all of these. I would prefer to keep them separate but like I said not my choice in the end.

I've seen the D7000s earlier and finally saw the D8000s today at Best Buy.....

WOW....I was blown away. This is the first set other than the Samsung C650/C670 series that I'd consider as a replacement for my Samsung A850.

The D8000 design and bezel are amazing, it had a killer black level, excellent screen uniformity, great color saturation/accuracy, no cloulds, no flashlights and good off-angle viewing.

Looks like the UN46D8000 and UN55D8000 with great PQ and Features are real WINNERS!!

I agree, I don't see why we can't keep this tv separate...at least for now anyone reading here is going to find info on thier particular set. Once you start adding different models, it gets messy trying to sift through it looking for info on different models and if we don't find the original question or post, we have no clue to which set it pertains to.

Again, not my choice to make but I wouldn't do it. It's much cleaner this way for everyone. Just my opinion.

Still looking for the perfect TV...

so from my understanding is that the 7000 series come with no glasses but the 3d bundle. The glasses in the megamind/sherk bundle are the same as last year but now bluetooth. Also they run on batteries. Am i right?

For the 8000 series it comes with 2 rechargeable bluetooth new style glasses right out of the box and also able to send in vouchers for 2 of the battery op. ones?

how are the new 3d glasses? how is the 3d?
Do i now need to buy a samsung 3d blu ray player or will my ps3 work?

Also how much is everyone paying for the 55D8000 right now. what is cheapest. i read someone paid 3K flat......

looking to buy soon and needed answers.

@Ray1204

The 8000 series comes with a voucher for 2 3D glasses. The D8000 does use bluetooth and not IR to sync with the TV. Thus the 2010 3D glasses (IR based) don't work with the D8000. The voucher does not indicate rechargeable glasses, they look the same as the one in the bundle that uses a small calculator battery for power. The glasses are light and I think they are pretty comfortable.

How is the 3D? I think it's great, I've seen 3D on the VT25 Panny's and while I think the black levels of the Panny are better overall, the 3D image is quite a bit darker. The D8000, the image goes slightly darker with the glasses but overall a brighter image. I am sure other people on here are more 3D experts than me but for what I see I'm impressed. Your Sony PS3 needs to have the latest firmware, it will detect the TV as 3D and you are good to go, no need to buy another 3D bluray player.

Can't talk price on the forums so I cant answer that question

hmm.. many product description page such as abt.com shows that the 8000 comes with 2 glasses. 3D ( Includes 2 Active 3D Rechargeable Glasses).

maybe i should just stick to the 7000 series if the 8000 series doesn't come with rechargeable glasses.

as for the 3d is crosstalk/ghosting present?

According to reviews it's reduced and far better than last years c-series, but it's still there. but shouldn't be a problem at all. not visible for most people.
