Just curious if you use the TV often and if yes, is it in an air-conditioned room?

It looks like the panel is spoilt and replacing it may not be worthwhile. Samsung's quality is quite disappointing nowadays.

For you the problem is the panel not the t-con board or main boars

Anyone ever have some black lines that start out on the lower left, slightly opaque that grow in size? I have some photos that I can attach but I'm not sure if anyone can tell...

Thanks for any help

Red face $ Year Update on UN55D8000

Well my Samsung UN55D8000 is turning 4 years and although the new technology calls my name every time I go to the store or browse the internet the only reason I can even contemplate replacing it would be for a larger screen. The picture seems to get better with time. The photo below is in pitch black room with a shot from the Italian Job Blu-Ray paused.

Yeah, i'm still loving my TV as well, only reason I would upgrade, is if a 57" LCD was available. that's about as big as I could get in my space, maybe 58", but Looks like 55" has been the sweet spot for some time. 60" is just to large.

Picked up a UN60F8000 for $1,500 (!) this weekend. A big box retailer (not sure if I can say the name) had two left at an Orlando store. They sold the floor model, so the store associates weren't even aware that they had the televisions. Seems like a pretty stellar deal on a TV that I've been eyeballing for a while. Can't wait to get it set up.

Posting here so I can find this thread again later. I had a little bit of a hard time finding this thread because of the sheer number of posts on the forum related to this television. So excited!

Why wattage does not matter.

(Disclaimer goes here)

Hey guys, I have a 55D8000. A few years old now and I am starting to notice the screen is jittery. I noticed it last week with the start of the NFL season. Now I can see it on regular TV, it is getting worse and worse. Is this a big problem? I still have some warranty till December. I also have noticed clouding in the corners. I cannot see it unless the screen it black or ending credits on movies.

This TV still blows me away with the colors and the pop, I have no need to get rid of it, but this judder is driving me nuts. I seen a video game commercial the other day and the screen just looked incredible.

Well after a year and a half from this Official Samsung UNXXD8000 Owners' Thread it appears that my TV is having the same problem again.

When I turn the TV on the Samsung logo doesn't show anymore and the red power light at the bottom right cycles on and off a few times before the LCD shows a picture. Every week it takes it a little bit longer to turn on. The picture is still beautiful when it does come on, but I fear one day it won't come back.

Thankfully I ended up buying that extended warranty I mentioned and it will be serviced. Problem is now that this same problem has happened twice, I fear in another 1 year or so it's going to die again, and this time no extended warranty. I'll try and take lots of pictures of the insides so that maybe I'll be able to fix it myself next time. I'll keep you all posted.

And for those that wonder, yes, I have a power conditioner protecting the system, and the TV probably runs on average a half-hour each night (some nights not at all, some times 2 hours). It's primarily just for watching movies with the family.

I love the picture, but this kinda pisses me off that it won't last beyond 2 years with out an extended warranty.

im so annoyed that by the time i had this tv delivered 2 years ago that by the time i figured that it was a keeper, i couldnt purchase an extended warranty on it (after 60 days). now i get news that the only repair possible is replace panel. bear in mind this is less than 200 hours of use within the last two years

That sux man. When I bought mine it was between the 60 Sharp Quattron and the D8000 and side by side the D8000 just stood out and really had the pop I wanted. I wish now I would have went with the Sharp because my D8000 is clouding in the corners, but no biggie it still works well and it will be time to replace it soon. I would say that if you have to pay out of pocket for a panel, I might just start looking for a new TV. I was in Walmart buying Blurays the other night and some of the TV's there looked pretty nice for the money. I was told by guys that came to repair a panel on one of my first flat screen TV's I had said Vizio is the best. I bought my son a Vizio for gaming and it has been flawless for years. I believe I will look to Vizio the next time around for my living room, but right now I am having fun with my projector.

ive been angrily communicating with samsung cs. they told me that if the cost of repair is substantial since i told them i used my tv so sparingly that they could escalate the issue higher to see if there was something they could do

Small update on my power on problem.

So, extended warranty guy came out, took the TV apart and removed the first board. Reached over for the new (refurbished) board and realized they had sent him the wrong part. So since the TV does eventually turn on, put the old board back in and reassembled the TV.

So we go to turn it on to make sure it still works and boom, turns on like it was new! We did nothing other than remove the board then put it back in. The repair guy guessed that it might have been a loose connection. I did some research and there is some talk on the web of a need to "capacitor reset" some Samsung TVs after they have been used for a while. Procedure is to unplug the TV then hold the power button on for 20 seconds or more. Then plug it back in and be good to go.

So if you start having problems with your tv taking longer and longer to turn on give the "capacitor reset" trick a try.

All settings remained, no config options lost.

Samsung UN55D8000 severe screen distortion

Hi all. Forgive me if a similar issue has already been presented. There are not over 282 pages in this thread, which is a lot to comb through

I've had my TV for just over 3 years now, paying over $3,000 for it originally. It's sad that already I'm having these problems and (of course) the TV is out of warrantee. I've provided a couple photos to show the issues I'm experiencing. Essentially about 50% of the top 3/4 of the screen is severely distorted with image ghosting and color/contrast issues. What is odd is that this is not a full-time issue. Sometimes it goes away after a while (with the TV on), other times simply turning the TV off and back on again resolves it as well. It is hard to justify buying a new TV when it does work most of the time (with a little patience), but I'd like to figure out if this is a fixable issue regardless.

I'd like to hear if others have this problem, or a very similar problem, and if anyone has a recommendation on a fix.

Thanks!
Dzyner
