I think you will be more than pleasantly surprised by the 3d capabilities. I do suggest watching a blu ray 3d, as the ones ive watched off of the cable feed are OK, but nothing in comparison. This could go back to the whole feed issue...

I think I would be much more inclined to keep the unit had I got the deal you got Kampai. What a score!

CF - watched some of the free 3D on Xfinity and for the most part it is was 'ok'. Most of the content had quite a bit of ghosting. I then ran into Alien Adventure, and Misadvtenures.

Now I was definitely surprised at how much better these two short movies were than anything else I tried. It had the awesome depth, very little ghosting, and the gimmicky in-your-face shots. I am thinking cause most of it was animated? Just seemed like actual film footage had the 3D effect - but the ghosting took away from the overall quality, but those two examples above pretty much blew me away.

I have two 3D blu-rays coming, so I can't wait to check them out.

On a side note, I knew I shouldn't have mentioned the great deal I got on the TV, cause a few hours ago, my receiver just took a *hit.
Ahhh, the joys of HT entertainment. Financial Whack-a-Mole at it's finest...

I guess the 3d is like the rest of the unit...hit or miss, no pun intended!

The DSE is so bad now that the wife (who thought I was crazy) is now seeing it more and more...thinking about just going with the 734, although its not 3D, it is full array, so should clean up the DSE.

Worst case, buys me another 30 day window for return...and hopefully the new 8 series will launch in that time. Sux, cause I really do love 80% of the 835u!!!

Can you take a photo of the DSE problem so that others can see what it looks like?

Watched Ultimate Wave, Tahiti 3D blu-ray and it was definitely better than the free offering (of the same movie) Xfinity had. Didn't have near the ghosting, picture was crisper. I can appreciate the depth of 3D, but I also like the occassional gimmicky pop out of your screen scenes. The live footage movies don't seem to do the later very much. That's not to say the TV won't - in a different movie, there is a part where a cgi creature explodes, and the pieces look like they are hoovering in your living room - a good 10ft outside the screen.

Has anyone tweaked the 3D settings? Looks like you can still toy with those settings, though I just wanted to watch out of the box settings which seemed decent.

Next will be 3D gaming - when the PS3 arrives. Good times testing this TV out...gettin better and better.

Decided to keep that 835u...at the end of the day the positives out weigh the negatives.

Was able to clear up alot of the DSE with the backlight turned down to 8 and brightness at -2...Doenst have an overwhelming "pop" like preset Dynamic setting does, but adresses the DSE issue and still looks bright, crisp and clear!

I have noticed as well that Kampai is right...alot of the DSE comes from various feeds...IE - Watching a soccer game on ESPN networks the DSE is minimal at best, but watching a soccer game on FOX networks the DSE is overwhelming and quite annoying. As well watching HGTV with the wife, during one show its prevelant and then during commercials and the next show, its barely noticable.

I will try and capture a good pic of it so ohters can understand exactly what "DSE" is...

For the $$ and the features, once you find your individual settings (took me over 3 weeks of tweaking and calibration) I think you will be very pleased with this unit!

What size is your set? My 40" is very clean and uniform when a uniform background is displayed like a bright blue sky or a uniform white field.

its the 60"...which size could be a contributing factor (bigger the screen/more difficult for even screen uniformity).

Blue/white/green backgrounds are the worst...but like I said, depending on the feed, sometimes the DSE is horrible, sometimes its not noticable at all.

I think DSE is always there, its just dependent on the material you are watching as to how much you see. For instance, on my Sony 55NX810 when I have a hockey game on and stand at almost a 90 degree angle to screen I see numerous dark lines running down the whole width of the screen at all times, right in front of screen I do not notice until there is a panning scene.

I agree...its on all edge lit/back lit leds from what research I have done.

I have a small 32" off brand at my office and for the first time caught a soccer game on it this afternoon. And guess what I saw (primarily on panning)...DSE!

Not too bad as its a smaller screen, which I beleive plays a HUGE factor in the avg individual actualy noticing it. Seems the bigger the screen, the more the "flaws" are apparent.

Yes, good article - thanks imws. I also stand corrected on my assessment of the 3D content. I guess the term of what I was seeing on the Xfinity 3D content was 'cross-talk' not 'ghosting'.

Anecdote: I left my tv turned 'on' accident (I have the Sharp logo light turned off) it was running ROKU's screen saver - a stark white digital clock bouncing on black background. When I came back downstairs after hrs, there wasn't any clouding that I could see. It wasn't 'inky' black - but the slight clouding that is normally there, wasn't. I am taking the author's advice and not really worrying about the clouding.

Just enjoying this thing for now and will check in when I try gaming...

I bought this 60" tv for $1750 on Amazon today. I was all set on plasma's for a while, but I think I am going to be perfectly happy with this tv's PQ.

How is the gaming/lag performance on this? I'll read over this thread tonight, but any input would be great. This is my only concern, and why I choose Amazon since they offer free return shipping. I play FPS, RPG, Adventure, a little of everything.

BTW, this is replacing a Sony 60a3000 rear projection tv. Looking forward to this new Sharp!

If you use game mode you won't have a problem with lag or otherwise. Game mode out-of-the-box also looks pretty good...

2x Game mode on these sets is great,no lag whatsoever. You might even have to slow down the controller response in some games as you'll move so quickly and could overshoot your targets. No more "windage" aiming!(a good connection helps too!)

-game mode-
backlight - 0
contrast - 35+
brightness - 3+
sharpness - 1+
all other options off or 0(adjust to preferences)

I think you might have just answered your own question. PC vs. PS3...

Example: when I watch my standard cable feed (1080i) I have some screen uniformity issues & DSE. But when watching a blu ray either off ps3 or blu ray player (feed is 1080p) those same issues are no longer prevalent. I watched a 3d movie off of the cable feed broadcasting in 1080i and there was horrible crosstalk, I bought the same movie on blu ray, 1080p, and guess what....no more crosstalk... hope this helps.

When someone posts 3 angry faces I take that to mean they are really angry with their situation, moving on would be best thing in my opinion. That said I am sorry for offending you it was not my intent.

The 632 seems like a good deal, it doesn't have the 240Hz mode but I don't know of anyone who would use that mode even in the Elite line, so it'a okay that the 632 does not have it. I like bezel on the 632. They are both Quattrons so the image should be equivalent. Sharp allows one to compare the specs you should run through the comparison to see what else may be different.

Contrary to what I said above the 632 is not a Quattron model, there's an owner's thread for that set on the forum, you may want to check that out...

Unfortunately there is no perfect fix or solution to the "crosstalk" problem. I would say in my limited experience that blu ray is of course going to provide a better 2d/3d picture period.

You have to take into account everything from what the film was originally shot in, to the format on which you are watching it, passive 3d vs active 3d, to the feed that is running it. Was it shot in 3d? Is it 720/1080i/1080p? Do your eyes respond better to passive or active 3d? What kind of cables are bridging your connections. So forth and so on....if your looking for perfection, let me know if you find it, as I haven't...

That's what I was attempting to do when I first purchased mine about 2 months ago, to no avail. Best advice I can gie you is just sit back and enjoy it, don't let the few flaws this unit has (like ALL do) take away from you enjoying it.

A long winded way of saying yes...try a 3d blu ray.
