PS: i was in Sams Club today and i tried that aquomotion 240 feature. Ugh what complete junk. Now i hope i am not jumping the gun here. But it seemed to effect the picture in a negative way lol. It almost had the effect of lots of noise and crushing blacks. They had the Tron blu ray on too. I am glad that i saved the extra $150 and did not get the 832 with that feature. I did notice that rockaway did not have that feature on. I could not see a difference with the quad pixel plus thing but i was there briefly.

Well, my 70LE732U arrived a couple of hours ago.

I haven't had the time to play with it much, but looking at it so far the initial impressions are that at least with some ambient lighting in my room by some natural light filtering in through the blinds I am not able to see any deficiencies in the black background on letterboxed movies. That is good because that is pretty much the conditions I normally watch TV under.

If I look for it I can see a bit of light falloff in the extreme corners on white or very light backgrounds. I also had to turn up the lip synch delay on my processor (an Anthem D2V) to about 70 ms.

It is a huge upgrade over my old KDF60XS955 RPTV. I'm glad I waited for a 70" set.

Has anyone tried the network features yet? Netflix, Vudu, dlna?

More later.

Does anyone know a Fry's in So Cal, specifically Fountain Valley or San Marcos, that has this Sharp on display so I can check it out in person this weekend?

Or any local So Cal Best Buy/Sears locations?

I just tried Netflix, it seemed to work about as I expected. Not as smooth to use as navigation on a PC user interface, but quite functional none the less. Also I am up to 110 ms on my lip synch delay now.

I'm guessing here as I'm not an expert in telling the difference between Netflix streams, but it looks HD to me.

I have a pretty good network service so I'd expect to get good results with streaming.

I'm pretty sure the one in Fountain Valley, or the one West of Harbor, can't remember if that is FV or SA, has it according to my uncle who lives in HB.

Duffinator, thanks for your reply. That Fry's store is in FV. I'll stop by this weekend.

Its just i catch it on the input screen. For example when i switch my receiver to my PS3 and right before the PS3 turns on i can catch some slight clouding.

The pics of the clouding weren't mine they were polarbare's. His first pic is more or less spot on. (no pun intended ) The second was enhanced a bit to make it easier to see. If by chance you are talking about the pics from my garage, there is one that could be taken for clouding. But that's the sun shinning in on the screen from the garage door being open and the angle I took the pic from. The PQ of this set almost perfect.

It's so good in fact that my wife called me when I was at work tonight to tell me she was just blown away by the PQ of todays Masters broadcast. I have been married to this girl for going on 36 years. She just doesn't do that !!!

I'm not sure which of the 60 inch sets you have. But if it's the one sold in Costco, it's an excelent TV from what I have seen of it. The one on display in my Costco is the best looking set in the store.

I have been trying to get my son in there to play some PS3 games. But he has his own little mancave in his bedroom and has yet to get out there. I will see if I can't get him to try it out over the weekend.

I just got back from the Fry's in Roseville and they have one on display. Unfortunately it's directly behind the manager's counter and not the best viewing area. They had an animated BD playing, some Disney movie, and I had them play Inception.

Wow I was impressed with the PQ out of the box. They must have had it on standard as the flesh tones were a bit off but the blacks and whites looked nice. Detail was amazing and I could not detect any motion blur. I notice motion blur more on live sports but there was no cable feed to this set so BD was all I could watch. My wife was even impressed with it. My only negative comment is the reflections from the screen were similar to my Panny plasma. Side to side viewing was good enough for my moderate sized room. I know the PQ can be improved from the out of the box picture I saw this evening so no worries for me about taking a step back from my current set. I'm going to sit on the sidelines a couple of months to see what the other sets bring but unless the local dimming set improves by a large margin over this set I'll probably get this one. I have no interest in 3D in it's current format.

Oh while watching the 2.35:1 image I could not detect any light leaking from the corners. This is one heck of a bargain.

I went to BB tonight to see if they had one on display yet, but didn't see one. Upon asking a salesperson, it looks as though it has been removed from the website again. He nor I couldn't find it, and I know it was on there last night.

Important - I have not noticed any issue while watching regular programming, but I haven't watched much material with really dark scenes as of yet. I'm just posting this to see if this is the norm, or if my set is a bit out of whack...

FYI - backlight was at 4, contrast at 23, brightness 0, OPC off
Strange why this happens for full array. It should be pretty uniform across the screen. Any guesses or ask Sharp?

I couldn't find any report of the black level of the set, was is it?

If I need to return my VT30, I might get this. My dad might suffer from an intense heartattack if he sees this baby though.

I saw this set in Sears a couple of days ago and the viewing room was bad. I really could not make a decision. The room was soooo brightly lit that it was had to tell anything. I will say the the Samsung C7000 looked better. My question to the group is when I go again, what quick setting should I use to get a quick better picture? Also any word on the 240 non 3d Sharp's release date?

I guess you could try the settings that I posted above. If nothing else they're quick, and my room is very bright.

In my week long quest in search of fast motion blur I may finally have found something. While it's not even realy what I would call a blur, it is wierd none the less. Last night and again this morning while watching baseball highlights and this mornings Yankee replay, I have seen a bit of a double image. It's been only when a ball is being thrown (and once in a while not all the time) I can see 2 balls. One is right behind the other, neither is the least bit blurry, both are clear as a bell.

I have not seen this during any live play at all. Just replays, be it hightlights from MLB Network or re-broadcast on YES. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Last night I was able to darken my room and look at the set with no input. My set looks like polarbare's first picture as well.

I watched a movie last night through Netflix - Micmacs in a pretty dark room. One 60 w CFL on and that's it. Nothing at all visible in the letterbox borders during the film. I'm going to try the Dark Knight BD and maybe Baraka tonight.

I've been using DeezMFNutz's settings - I think they may be a little hot for my taste/environment. Maybe crushing blacks a bit? Not sure until I get out my cal disks. BTW, AVS has a free cal disk you can download that looks decent. Search for AVS 709.

Boy there are a LOT of options in the advanced menu. It should be possible to really get this set lined in. Ultimately I may pay for a pro calibration to get the most out of these options.

All in all this set blows my old LCD RPTV away. I was kind of sad to see it go out the door, I have some great memories from stuff I watched on it. But time marches on.

All in all I'm glad I bought the Sharp. I think it's a keeper.

I wonder if it's an artifact from downconversion from the high frame rate the replay cameras use.

I'm clueless as to what it is. I'm going to record todays game and see if I can see it again. My Sharp is connected to a Directv H21, but I also have a second connection having a DVR hooked up to the the Sharp and a Sony. When I play it back I can view it on both TVs at the same time. If I see it on the 70 inch set I will simply rewind and see if it shows up on the Sony.

Why go to such extremes to replicate an event your not seeing in normal broadcast mode?

Are we ending the honeymoon and just back to standard Forum OCD nitpicking events one fails to see in normal viewing but damn if we can't find something and accomplish WHAT? Are you a professional AV Engineer that has credentials that tells us you even know what your doing or even understand the causation of the results?

Pretty bad when you have to Seek a problem and replicate even after a successful feed to your TV. Why don't you torture test the panel while your at it.

Just joined AVS, and this is my first post. Just got this TV yesterday. Own a 42(Gallevia) and 55 Vizio(XVT 120HZ) which i love and never had one problem with. I had been waiting for a 65 inch or bigger to come out for a year and decided to get this one. First impression definitely wasn't great, spent about two hours tweaking the settings. Currently using the ones y'all suggested, Mode: Movie, etc. That helped a lot to dial it in a little better. The auto/smooth motion is by far better than my Vizio 120HZ. The size is great. The sound is better as well. Not a fan of a couple things so far...the Remote, the menu, No PIP or Side by Side(I used this a ton on my 55 Vizio). I found the Vizio settings a lot easier to dial in a great setting but this one not so much. I'm new to Sharp so that's probably the case. Ive been checking this thread daily for suggestions. For some reason the picture doesn't have that BITE of "amazing-ness" i was hoping for by shelling out the cash for this set. I hope this TV really comes alive with the ideal settings. As of right now I feel the picture quality was better on my 55 Vizio, but the Smooth motion sucked on the Vizio so always had it off. Glad that the Sharp can handle this feature. Looking forward to getting more input on people's thoughts on this set and what settings they are using.

Na, just trying to figure out what it is. Not going to any extremes, I would be recording the game anyway. Since it starts after 2 and I leave for work at 2:30. Even the replay tonight starts at 10 and I won't be home til after 11.

Honeymoon period is still in full force here. I'm luvin this set so far!! But if I see something weird, I think I should pass it on. It could be something as simple as the firmware version I'm running on my Directv receiver. It could be just some whacky anomaly.

In no way at all should it be taken that I have gone into crisis mode here.

That was sort of my take on the set after reviewing at Sears - I thought the 60" 830-series Sharp on display next to it had a noticeably better picture. Also wasn't thrilled with the construction and bezel design - glossy 'wavy' black plastic like some of the older Sony's used to have. Really wanted to like this - Paul's had a great deal on them - couldn't pull the trigger.
