Is the price difference that big of a deal between the 729 and 820? I dont really worry about the reflection since my TV now faces a wall and my couch. Also asked for pricing for the kdl55nx810 and kdl55nx720. Which should I go for. I want to stay around the $500 to $800 range. They dont have the 810 now that I read. but the NX720 they are offering for $755+tax. What way should I go?

HX729, NX720 or HX820?

Thanks!

The 729 and 820 both have the X-Reality Pro processor vs. the non-Pro version in the 720. Both the 729 and 820 are about the same as far as screen reflectivity, i looked at them both. I went with the 729 because I wasn't too hip on the gorrilla glass look, but if you like that, go with the 820, they are very similar, both are dynamic edge LED.

Thanks, now I am looking at the HX729 vs the EX720 and EX620.

Trying to justify the extra $ they want for the HX729 vs the EX versions. 3D is not super important to me.

I recently picked up an 55hx729 and so far I am really unimpressed with the 3D. I'm using the newer BR250 glasses and the crosstalk is quite bad. Text almost always looked doubled and there is bad colour shifting and loss of 3d effect with even the slightest head tilt.

I am considering returning the set, but not before I do some more testing of this and other sets to compare 3d ability.

Hi guys, recently found these forums after purchasing my first 3DTV, Sony's EX720. Had that tv for a few days and have experienced terrible crosstalk while playing PS3 and 3D blurays. According to several other members around here I'm not alone and there seems to be no fix...

...so anyway, I'm thinking of bringing the EX720 back, paying the extra cash and going for the HX729 instead.

How is the 3D? Doesn't seem to be much talk about it, couple say its good, another says its not great. More specifically, how bad of crosstalk/ghosting do you get? Anyone able to compare to the EX720 directly?

Thanks for any info!

From every TV manufacturer i've seen, the ghosting/crosstalk you speak of seems about the same. It seems like some content is better/worse than others though.

I've also found that how you have the glasses positioned on yourr face/head and how your head is positioned can make it appear/dissapear as well. Over all I'm happy with the 3D ability of my hx729.That said with the ghosting, it seems an inherent flaw in the technology to a degree.

Hey guys just wondered how good do you find the local dimming, being edge based does it cause bad side effects ie blooming.

Just interested as looking at this model in 40 or the nx model (im in the UK)

The 40NX in the uk doesn't have local dimming so just wondered if its something i will be missing, i love the glass front design but having seen the dreaded crease im having second thoughts also reflection on the glass and the extra 100hz of the HX.

Haven't actually seen this model in the uk yet only the EX723 which i liked.

Thanks for any replies, just like first hand owners impressions really until i can get to see one in person i will just be guessing.

Just got the KDL-55hx729 as a replacement to my defective KDL-52W4100 and I'm having some backlighting / bleeding problems.

The right side of the screen there is no noticable problems, left left side has some slight bleeding. My main problem is that I have two backlight / flashlights in the upper left side of my screen. The top one is probably 8 inches long and the lower one is about 15 inches long, both are approximately 2-3 inches wide. The flashlights somewhat blend in with the bleeding on the left side of the screen. There are also a few blotches that stick out located on the left middle and left bottom side of the screen.

Here is a diagram of what the bleeding looks like, represented by the "X" key. The "-" key represents the part of the screen that is unaffected.

X---------------------------------------------------------
XXXXXXX--------------------------------------------------
X---------------------------------------------------------
X---------------------------------------------------------
XXXXXXXXXXXX-------------------------------------------
X---------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
XXX-------------------------------------------------------
X---------------------------------------------------------
XXX-------------------------------------------------------
X---------------------------------------------------------

This effect used to occur about 70% of the time until I tweaked the settings (brightness/backlight/LED Dynamic). After the adjustments I'd say appears between 1-5% of the time depending on the type of lighting (dark/light) contrast in the scene, but mostly darker scenes. The rest of the time, the picture looks amazing, but when I see the flashlights it just sticks out like a sore thumb and ruins it for me.

How is everyone else's experience with the flashlighting effects? Are they as bad/worse than mine?

My set was manufactured in April 2011. Are there any manufacturing dates that aren't having these problems?

Anyway, regarding the rest of the TV ... holy crap!!!!! Why is this TV sooo good? Amazing picture, amazing color. Avatar looks DA BOMB on Blu Ray.

I just sent in my order for the 55HX729. Letter will get their Tuesday and hopefully by the end of next week they will have me approved and sending out my 55HX729!

I think I made the right choice. I went into Best Buy last night and looked at it in store. It looked great on the wall, I cant image how awesome it will look in my apartment after a calibration set correctly.

congrats, 7VII7. I've been very happy with mine so far, I hope you are happy with it once you get it setup. Run initial setup to HOME use at first, then get your software update.

After that, verify your Dynamic LED Control is on (low or standard). Mine was OFF by default, it helps rid flashlighting and helps with lighting uniformity. Adjust settings to your liking from there.

When watching 3D, I'd recommend turning on Motionflow in the 3D options menu, that eliminates crosstalk immensely.

The 3D transmitter is built into the set already. I bought the 2-pair of 3D glasses with Narnia 3D movie combo from amazon, was one of the better deals I found at the time 2 months ago. The 2011 model Sony 3D glasses are the TDG-BR250 ones. They're rechargeable and come with a USB cord for charging.

I own both the 2010 BR100 and 2011 BR250 glasses. I much prefer the BR100due to their larger size and build quality.

Finally ordered the 55HX729 from future shop today. Not sure if the price was good but it was definitely much lower than the sony.ca price.

Can't wait for it to arrive this thursday!

Retail pricing on these TV's is pretty high here in Canada and not many places seem to be carrying the 729, but rather the 720 instead. I bought mine last week and paid more, but then I got a ps3, 2 pairs of glasses and the SF470 home theatre package for 'free'.

This got my curiosity, so I just turned mine off and darkened the room. I don't see a blue light, or any light at all, on the back of my 55HX729, so I have no idea what that light is on yours. What is your build date on the back sticker?

I just ordered this set after returning several Plasma TVs. Couldn't stand the buzzing. Pretty excited.

I read the whole thread, anything I important about LED in general I should know about? This set seems like it will be okay out of the box for normal viewing.

I don't know the build date and don't want to take the TV off the wall to see. I just bought it 2 weeks or so ago, however.

I don't know what the blue light is either, but it's pretty bright and the people who installed the TV said it was normal. I am questioning it because I am not sure how much they know about this model of TV.

I want to sure it's not some bulb that will burn out because it is left on all the time.

Thanks.

KDL60NX720 for $1783 + local sales tax

KDL-55NX720 for $1289 + local sales tax
KDL-55HX729 for $1216 + local sales tax

Yea I just received my 55" HX729. Kinda surprised. When watching movies it seems like the motion stutters or is playing at 102% of natural speed. Looks way funky comparing to CRT or plasma. I don't think its input lag since even if I watch it on mute, it's the same effect.

Tried motion flow or whatever...no difference. Maybe my eyes are not accustomed to such effects yet

mehhhhh...so far

I got my 55HX729 yesterday, still working with the picture but so far impresses. The skin tone is great. Sometimes the picture looks a LITTLE bit dark but not bad. Sound is OK as long as I dont have my window open (traffic outside).

So far please for $635
