No. LG released this set in Australia as the 55LW9500 (2D only), and very competitively priced for down under.

Do we have any idea whether this is using an IPS panel or not? I'm looking at the Australian LW9500 and if this is really a full array local dimming LED, the price is quite remarkable. It's less than half the price of the HX925 and seems only to be lacking 3D (which I certainly don't care about).

Specs are light, but the pitchmen did at one point emphasize that viewing angles are wide.

nony, I think it is the same screen as our LW9500 here in Oz.
I posted some pics in the LG 2011 lineup thread, but have owned the screen now for about a month and am very happy so far.
Local dimming, some minor blooming in really high contrast areas (like the letterboxes) but nothing too distracting. No clouding, banding etc that i've seen so far.

I've been able to use the EZ setup and Install menus to renable the THX presets, PVR function (which is enabled here in Oz anyway) and the 3D settings. Unfortunately it doesn't look like enabling the 3D does anything, besides getting the 3D menu options (SBS, 2D->3D etc) only 3D source I have is ESPN 3D which is SBS and it had no effect. Doing 2D->3D only brightened the picture. Oh wells

Great to hear that there doesn't seem to be any banding -- that's the main thing worrying me having read about the issues with the LX9500. Hoping to take a look at one of these in person in the next couple of days so hopefully there's some stock around.

If it has the 3D hardware, you would need to enable 3D from the service menu using a service remote or a serial cable connection.

Yeah, i'm guessing that they must have removed the hardware from it, rather than just firmware crippled it.
After enabling the 3d option in the service menu, it has all the right menus and options, they just don't do anything beyond turning the brightness up.

After you enabled the two 3D options in Tool Option5, did you issue the INSTOP command?

If we weren't so sure about getting a 3D HDTV with our next HDTV purchase, we'd probably pulled the trigger on this TV last night. Anyone who got that 55" LG LED got high-end features for a steal, that's for sure. I hope everyone is happy when their new Toy arrives.

The hard part is waiting for it to arrive..........

If this set has local dimming, it will be a monumental buy. Even without, it is still a great looking set, at an excellent price point.

It does appear to have a reflective screen, as opposed to the matte offered in the 5600 and 6500 series at this screen size. This might be a challenge for those with lighting in the room. Still not a deal breaker at this price!!

Yea, let us know if it can :-)
I have the LW9500 and in the service menu there is a 2D / 3D option. I dont want to mess with it just in case I brick the TV ........

No, that's the factory reset isn't it?
Given the THX presets and 3D menu options were enabled, do you think it would be necessary?
Prepared to do it if there's a chance, but if it's unlikely, i'd prefer not to have to redo all the settings again, lol

OK, couldn't help myself.
I re-enabled the 3D in the InStart menu, ran InStop command and bingo bango, 3d image!! Just need some glasses now, hopefully it has the hardware to sync them.

Thanks for the suggestion nony!

Wow, that is crazy. Now.......if there is no 3D emitter, is there anything that can be done. I don't think LG makes emitters like sony.

Arkasi....this tv maybe in fact a passive display when enabled and not active. Try some regular old 3d glasses.

I wish! Unfortunately it's definitely not passive as you can see it doesn't have the FPR pattern that Cinema 3D has.

One of the LG chat representatives sent me the 55LV9500 spec sheet and the latest manual. The spec sheet does say local dimming if there was still any doubt.

Local dimming is listed in the specs with a dot next to it...not sure if that means yay or nay?

Every supported feature has a dot next to it. Do you suppose the TV doesn't support closed captioning?

Given the other features that have dots as well, I'd say its safe to say it does indeed have local dimming.

Mono/Stereo/Dual (MTS/SAP) has a dot
