We have not heard any real news on the Elites.

In the end I feel it is to far of to speculate this or that about the new models.

On a side note, on the XBR series, Sony is not releasing a new 2012 model. These are letting the 2011 model run until 2013. Maybe the Elite will follow the lead of Sony.

Didn't watch Mike. But how do whites look in general? If the yellow-tinged ice was an anomaly, I'd blame it on the broadcast.

Just an FYI for those looking to buy the 70" since I had a few members say the price I paid is very good. Best Buy is closing 50 stores on May 12th, those with Magnolia inside typically will have the 70" Elite panel, at least the ones in my area only showcase the larger size and not the 60". This will vary store to store, but it seems these closing stores really would prefer to sell all their display items rather than transfer them to other stores unless another store requests a particular item. It might be worth your time to call or check out stores that are closing to see if they will cut you a deal.

Thanks, I won't be able to figure out the build date on my unit since it didn't come with the box. And here's my first picture of her still wrapped up. The installer is kind enough to come tomorrow and put her on the wall so I can clean enjoy the new setup during the evening

When you call Elite CS to register your set, they can tell you the build date based on the serial #,just ask.

Monoprice cables are good cables. I use Monoprice and Blue Jeans cables for both my Pioneer Elite PDP's.

Kind of thought so Mike, but good to hear.

I won't be going to the shootout on this go-around. Not in the market for a unit at this time. My next display will either be the 70" Elite (or 80" if it actually materializes). The OLEDs for the foreseeable future will be too small.

Actually no. We've known for a long time (4-5 months) that turning on IVC low reduced but didn't eliminate the pulsing problem. Personally I don't like the picture with IVC low, though maybe with time could have gotten used to it.

I think I made the right decision....totally looking for a larger version of that bear TV. Any chance its the mystery TV at the shootout?

You can actually get the same look of the LD ISF settings with IVC Low, but you need to make some hefty adjustments to the Backlight, Contrast, Brightness and Gamma settings. I like you hate the look IVC Low normally creates, but after a bunch of experimentation now have an ISF with IVC Low setting that almost totally kills the flickering but can't tell apart from my LD ISF setting. I have the IVC on the ISF Day and the LD on the ISF Night, and I have not gone back to the ISF Night other than to check and grin, "yep, looks the same, but check out the flickering!".

So for me, going from FW 2.16 to 2.17 killed about 60% of the flickering, then going from LD to "compensated IVC Adv Low" killed about 95% of it.

Is the "flickering" or "pulsing" problem (I assume these are different terms for the same issue) a universal problem inherent in every set or is it random?

I was concerned about my set delivered this week (Jan 2012 build) but on install hold until next week, so I took off the majority of the packaging, leaving the set in the bottom part of the carton and rigged up my retired Panny BD35 (still a great little BR player) and played portions of several BR and DVD's. What a phenomenal picture with absolutly no adjustments to any settings, immediately alleviates any question about cost justification! Anyway, I saw no sign of what I would consider "flickering/pulsing". Either I got very lucky and received a set free of this issue, or I don't have a clue of what it looks like. As I think about this, some have said they see this occur during hockey games, is it perhaps associated with cable/sat input? So back to my original question,is it a problem with every set???

I didn't have it in THX mode prior to the update and with the update it's much less of an issue in non-THX movie mode where I did see it. However I now use ISF mode where again I see no evidence of it.

If you don't see it, don't worry about it. These forums can make you crazy.

Sort of OT, but I saw several 4K displays at NAB and it was really difficult to discern the resolution increase at proper viewing distances. It's also just a resolution increase - that doesn't automatically get rid of video noise, poor motion, or other picture problems. Sony's display, in particular, was pretty awful. I think 4K is still really impractical at this point in the game. I personally don't want to see the Elite go this way, although that and all other rumors have appeared to die down.

Could someone please PM me what the 60 Elite is going for. I only have one local dealer. And I want to see if his prices are on par with what the going price is. If this is against rules please disreguard. Thanks

There is an elite pricing thread. Search for it and post there. I think sub 4 is the lowest

Gee, didn't that reviewer understand how miserably inaccurate the Elite's colors are? Just kidding. Nice review and spot on. I agree the viewing angle is the biggest weakness of the display.

He must be friends with some owners.

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

I was in our local BB/Magnolia department yesterday when I heard a "mature" salesman telling a potential Elite customer the following:

"Sharp bought the entire display division from Pioneer. Sharp has been searching for the right panel to match with the Pioneer Elite electronics for the past three years and this Elite is the result."

I'm always amazed at the information I pick up during a visit to BB.
