OH and for those of you still wondering, YES this ELITE is the Real thing! I was totally blow away with the picture quality and deep blacks! When I have more time I"ll write a review, but for now enjoy some quick snapshots.

SETTINGS:

MODE: MOVIE THX / LOCAL DIMMING: ON / BACK LIGHT: 16 / CONTRAST: 35 / BRIGHTNESS: -12 / COLOR: +3 / TINT: 0 / SHARPNESS: 0 / CMS: RETURN TO FACTORY DEFAULT / COLOR TEMP: LOW

WHITE BALANCE (2 POINT):

HI RED GAIN: -23 / HI GREEN GAIN: +20 / HI BLUE GAIN: +8

LO RED GAIN: -10 / LO GREEN GAIN: 0 / LO BLUE GAIN: -3

MOTION ENHANCE 120 HZ: HIGH / PRECISION COLOR +: ON / ACTIVE CONTRAST: OFF / GAMMA: -2 / FILM MODE: OFF

DNR: MID / MONOCHROME: OFF / RANGE OPC: n/a

These minor adjustments are in fact critical to an excellent picture on this TV. The new measured contrast ratio, with local dimming on, is close to infinity, with a black level below detectability at 0.000ftL.

I don't know, but some of your numbers seem off - specifically the -12 brightness seems suspect. I'm at 0 or -2 and the screen is perfectly black. Any lower and I would be losing shadow detail.

Well, my replacement 70" is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Really hoping that the pulsing issue will be gone with the new set.

To the calibrators, what is the color temp readings that you are getting with the defaults on Movie THX mode?

Well, got my replacement 70"....got some good news and bad news....

Good news first...

1. Movie THX readings out of the box is much better. Color temp is ~7200 and colors are tracking better than the previous set.

2. The set has absolutely NO dead/stuck pixels. Previous set had 3.

Bad news...

1. Pulsing/moving shadows still exists in all my test clips.
Although it is not as apparent as the previous set. At the moment, I'm really leaning towards an issue either with the LED driver board or the Local Dimming software.

Not sure what I'm going to do at the point...either have Sharp buy the set back or just keep the set. I think i'm leaning towards the latter.

Here are my before/after grayscale and color gamut calibration charts from an ISF Day mode calibration. Sorry I can't post a report since my Calman only has a home DIY license.

I'm having issues with the low end...it seems the blue jumps up and down between 10-40IRE....will try to figure out in a couple of days. Will probably calibrate the ISF Night mode this weekend.

Well the backlight is all the way up. I thought that was weird too. It looks good though, I swear it does..... I'm shocked you guys think it is SOOO terrible, frankly I was surprised how it was so similar to just the defaults. Oh, and it says 735 because he initially calibrated that TV, then I returned it so I bet it was in his template.

gutcheck's report was from the Excel Report function in ChromaPure. I just did some checking. If the xls is opened with MS Excel the numbers match the ChromaPure "pdf" report. If the xls file is opened with Open Office the macros don't work properly and the numbers come out looking terrible.

gutcheck - ask your calibrator about this, and if he saved the ChromaPure .calx file for your TV ask him to run a "Detailed Calibration Report" in the ChromaPure Reports Module and tell him to save it in PDF format, also found in the Reports Module.

All I have is a PDF.

You mean 6500??

Question, why are the primaries and secondaries not dialed in more using the CMS?

With the CMS, I was able to dial in my pri and sec to under 1 for DE1994.

Yes, 6500 sorry. My fault. His reasoning was he could dial them in with the two point / color settings. I don't know the graph looks pretty good to me.

Just curious about in store impressions and the accuracy of them.

I have a 111fd i never saw in store and am very happy with it at night in a dark room. I bought it on reputation only. I was going to do the same with this set.

I need a bigger set that performs better during the day.

I saw the sharp elites today at BB. I reset the settings to default and view on thx movie mostly the latest pirates of carrb. firm.

I was surprised how plasma like the set looked but not in a great way. It lacked pop. Skin tones were a little off and it just did not wow. They were certainly very nice but I was surprised I was not blown away.

1. Is this just a settings issues most likely based on peoples in home viewing vs what they saw as default's in store?

2. The screen is highly reflective and rather uneven looking. The 111fd is a solid looking piece of glass with AR coating on it. Does this TV not have the AR coating the pioneers did?

Just curious about any thoughts.

ChromaPure reports four different ways. Yours is the Excel option and as I said if the resulting xls file was opened with the Open Office program the numbers will NOT translate. Ask the calibrator to run a Detailed Calibration Report and save it as a pdf file - this is not the same as the report you have. The attached file is what it should look like.

Go back and enter the CNET settings in Movie THX, then set IVC to Low (One step above local dimming ON) and color to +4 upto +6

The screen will come to life in a huge way.

The default THX Movie settings are very dull and lifeless to me.

Buzz should I assume that is a display you calibrated. If so that is mighty impressive.
