Since the outlook for ATSC-M/H isn't great right now, I am a little reluctant to post this, but I might be interested in buying a small portable TV. I realize that the problem is if I get one with both ATSC and ATSC-M/H the Mobile DTV part may not work very long into the future. On the other hand, if I get a portable that is ATSC only, I have absolutely no option to use it while in motion. At any rate, ahs anybody ran across any reviews of the current crop of portable TVs? Actually, the ideal for me would be to get one that has:

-NTSC

-ATSC

-ATSC-M/H

However, I actually haven't ran across any that has all of that yet. That is not to say that they don't exist, but I just haven't ran across them yet. I would mainly be interested in the TV audio while in the vehicle, but I think the RCA tuner is ATSC-M/H only. Maybe my best option is any of the RCA TVs that are both ATSC and ATSC-M/H. I figure that at least that way I will h ave something when the current Mobile DTV standard is abandoned!

I wonder if it gets the Dyle channels or the Mobile 500 channels? I assume NOT Dyle, since I don't see it listed on the Dyle website.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271295999736?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Edit: I suspect the specs on this 7" tv are misprinted. This iten does not exist on Eviants website and other sites hint at these being sold off a couple of years ago at clearance for about $50. It is probably 480 x 234. One listing of the 10" version lited the screen size as 4.3 on a 10" tv, haha.
Again, there is no 7" mobile tv. It looks like they took all the best specs of all Eviant TVs and created this imaginary model???

http://www.amazon.com/EVIANT-portable-digital-Operable-subscription/dp/B00FROO5T6#productDetails

Here is an ad on Amazon with the SAME info as that Ebay item BUT there is NO such creature on Eviant's website!
There are many 7" Digital TVs on Amazon and ALL of them are 480 x 234 except this one. I'll know for sure in a few days, haha.

Edit: Oh ya, this one and the Ebay one are sold by the same dealer.

I also noticed that it is absent from Eviant's website, but I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I am into GPS, scanners, amateur radios, etc., too, and it is not unusual for the hobbyists to find out about a model coming out and then, in some cases, making it to retailer websites before it even hits the manufacturers OWN website. It is exactly the opposite of what I would expect.

I bought 1 of Ebay so I'll let you know in a few days smile.gif

It's for REAL!

The accesories alone are almost worth the cost, hahaha. The bottom of the box has every kind of connector you could possibly use except for HDMI and who wants to use one of those? There is even an adapter to connect to a coax cable, Car power, AC power, 3.5mm to 3rca AV, a little T antennae with 2 suction cups for window mount, a leather (faux?) windowed pouch that can be handheld and/or hung on the included Headrest Mount!
Lithium Ion Battery supposed to take 3hours to charge and last for 2.5 Hrs.
Channel Skip!!! for after you scan for signals
Remote control
Built in Antennae and Speakers
Headphone socket 3.5mm
Most importantly the Instruction Manual was written by a Technical Writing Master with a major in English!

Check rabitears.info or mdtvsignalmap.com/ 1st if you plan to use this for Mobile DTV cause the map that came with it shows no coverage in my area but for normal ATSC (my intended use) should be no problemo.

You'll have to wait till tonite for pictue detail as I'm waiting for the batt to charge and have errands to run but the box says 800 x 480!

smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif I am Covered http://mdtvsignalmap.com/#

Other Features:
Input Source - DTV/ATV, Cable, Mobile TV, A/V in
Auto Scan - Analog, Digital / Cable Analog / Digital
Channel Skip
Cable TV Tuner - If you have Cable in your Van down by the river.
Clock - Automatically set by DTV - Day / Date / Time
Aspect Ratio - Normal / Full
Menu Language - English / Spanish / French
Audio Language - English / Spanish / French
Closed Caption! - DCC Service / DCC Style
DCC View - To many to list
Screen - Backlight% / Brightness / Contrast / Color / Sharpness
Reset - Yes / No

TFT Screen Size = 7 inches
Resolution 800 x 480
AC Pover -100-120V /AC 50-60Hz 1A Output:12V DC 2A
Power Consumption - <18W
Dimensions - 195mm x 115mm x 20mm
Weight - about 700g (1.307Lbs)

OMG this is a REAL TV!

Connected to home rooftop OTA antennae to scan for channels and it picks up every channel any tuner in the house does. Channel changer is faster than my TV, haha.
Picture is Very Good with factory settings! Which are 80/50/50/50/0 (see video option above)
Buttons on right side front are finger detectible in the dark and and react quickly.
Stereo sound but speakers are on the back. Sounds great thru earbuds but you have to turn the volume to at least 15 out of 20, same if using earphone out for connection to external amp.
Couldn't pick up anything with the built in antennae but I live outside of town in a valley. Waiting to test the Mobile TV tuner and Stick on Dipole antennae in town.
Manufactured August 2011
Firmware July 2011
Absolutely NOTHING on Eviant's website, no manuals, no firmware, no pictures, no NOTHING about this TV and their news hasn't been updated since 2009!
Too bad, this is a great product!

The 10" DTV on their website appears to have Mono sound and no Mobile TV tuner.

I tried it once in town with the suction cup Dipole antennae on the windsheild and should have tuned 3 UHF M/H stations but only got 1 unexpected VHF M/H channel that was only captured during the scan but did not have picture or sound when tuned frown.gif and every time I scanned the TV would "forget" previously saved channels frown.gif I still like the TV for ATSC and use it at home for monitoring other channels while watching the main TV, I LOVE the Picture! The pixel pitch is equivolent of a 35" HDTV with a 4000 x 2400 resolution! And the color is Great! Not terribly bright as it's designed to run on batteries. Has EPG thru the Remote only, same for Mute but it changes channels quickly with the buttons on the right side. In fact if you don't just tap the button you may go past the next channel. I plan to use it for a Backup Camera Display mainly and double as a portable TV.
Will call the local TV stations and ask them what's up with Mobile DTV.

It will be interesting to see what they tell you. I suspect that it will be because they are Dyle TV channels and you need a Dyle TV device to receive those.

Stations no longer have live humans to answer phone, just transferred from one recording to the next but left voice mail in Engineers Office at each station...
No Transmitter or Frequency data in FCC Licenses for anything other than Analog and Digital channels, just Antennae Type and Location, Power, Radiation Pattern. Public Data was 2004 - 2007 (yawn).
Awaiting call backs (snore)...

Here are two URLs that I find to be helpful:

http://www.dyle.tv/coverage-map/

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=atscmph

When I put in a ZIP code near me I get this from the Dyle site:

Saint Paul, MN 55101

Channel listing for your location:

ABC KSTP*
FOX KMSP
Independent KSTC*
NBC KARE
PBS KTCA*

These stations indicated with an asterisk (*) are not directly affiliated or monitored by Dyle mobile TV partners and disruptions to service may occur without our knowledge. Please contact these stations directly for any questions on their mobile TV service. - See more at: http://www.dyle.tv/coverage-map/#sthash.Volh2usN.dpuf
- See more at: http://www.dyle.tv/coverage-map/#sthash.Volh2usN.dpuf

So, if I understand that correctly, the Mobile 500 channels near me are the ones with an asterisk. The ones without are Dyle channels. When I first started with ATSC-M/H I tried Hauppauge hardware and found that I could only watch 2 channels, which were KSTP (ABC) and KTCA (PBS). I could tell that there was something on 9 and 11, but learned that they needed a different receiver.

Somewhat more recently we got an Elgaro MyDTV device for my wife's iPad mini. It, too, only received KSTP (ABC) and KTCA (PBS). Then, I got here an Elgato EyeTV Mobile for the iPad Mini and it gets KSTP (ABC) and KTCA (PBS) as well as FOX KMSP and NBC KARE. So, this had led me to believe that the Dyle devices were preferable because they would get Dyle channels as well as non-Dyle channels.

However, I bought an RCA DTV tablet for my wife and it gets regular ATSC and just Dyle channels. In areas with all Dyle or all non-Dyle channels, it would be less confusing. But, since I live in a market with both, it is a bit confusing.

If you look at the fine details on the Rabbit Ears site you should find information about which of your broadcasters are Dyle and which are not.

I partially blame the FCC and I partially blame the broadcast industry for this situation. Can you imagine if regular ATSC had more than one version?

Now if they DO merge, then we can put this issue to rest! http://www.tvnewscheck.com/playout/2013/05/dyle-mobile500-merger-talks-continue-at-atsc-meeting/

http://www.dyle.tv/faqs/

What requirements are there to use Dyle mobile TV?

In order to use Dyle mobile TV, you must have a compatible device, as well as the appropriate mobile TV app. For the MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G, please visit: www.metropcs.com/mobiletv For the Elgato EyeTV Mobile TV Tuner, please visit: www.elgato.com/eyetv-mobile For the Escort MobileTV, please visit: www.escortradar.com/store/ESCORT-MobileTV.html - See more at: http://www.dyle.tv/faqs/#sthash.2vnuZZ5d.dpuf

Hi, Received 1 callback from an enthusiastic NBC Affiliate who revealed that their MDTV channel was off Air last week but said there was no reason I shouldn't pick up all 4 local channels on this device. Also said he can get all channels on his ithingy so I'm thinking this TV does not have a sensitive receiver because I can't tune any MDTV with the UHF/VHF directional antennae on my roof. I get 17 ATSC channels with the Eviant M7 though... It has a cable tuner also but I don't subscribe. Will have to try again from near the Antennae Farm.
Thanks for the Links.

ATSC 3.0???

From what I've been able to find out about Mobile TV (M/H) I don't think I'm interested in pursuing further. It's low quality (res) and here there is a News video broadcast and a Gospel audio braodcast...
The regular ATSC channels are infinitely better so I'm still happy with this HDTV even though I can't get the Mobile channels.
Best of Luck

I just bought a Tivax HiRez7, 7" portable HDTV with a docking station that provides AA battery backup in case of a power outage. It should arrive here today or tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about the possibility of actually having TV if the power goes out. I'll let you know what it's like. It's the only portable TV I could find that also operated on regular batteries in addition to the rechargeable batteries in the unit. The AA batteries will give approx. 2 hours of viewing, so I plan to keep a lot of them on hand.
