First of all each TV should be calibrated individually, as they all have differences, even across the same model. You could use somebody else numbers as a starting point, maybe. Those are probably calibrated for watching in completely dark room? You probably need to adjust it for ambient light.
Did you miss anything? First thing I had to turn off on my TV was the energy saving (green button on remote) and I wasted good few minutes, looking for it in the menu (it's not).
Finally, try to use at least simple calibration disc (they used to have calibration section on old THX DVD movies, this forum supposed to have some free calibration disc as well? ) at least to verify you're in the ballpark, without crashing blacks/whites, gray gray etc.
At the end it's your TV, set it the way you like it, not the way somebody thinks it should be.
