Hi,

I'll use it mainly for watching movies through a HTPC. I don't care about 3D or extra features, I just want picture quality. I know how to calibrate TV's (ISF cert.).

I sit at 5 feet, and have a dim ambient light behind the TV. I'll always use it in a dark room.

My budget is 500-550 USD.

For size, I'm thinking 26-32 inches.

I tried the LG26V2500 but returned it immediatly, absolutely rubbish image (even after calibration).

Thanks.

32" is a safe size since it will definitely not use a TN panel, the max current size for TN panels are 28" so.

If you can sit within it's viewing cone the Samsung LN-32D550 comes highly recommended here for good blacks/contrast, overall image quality, performance and menu tweaking options. It is CCFL but the benefit of that is it will have even backpanel lighting compared to lower end edge-lit models.

There is also an official LN-xxD550 owner's thread floating around, but here's a thread dedicated to the 32" model: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1318336

Not sure since they do not look familiar to me, you may have to try some EU based AV forums for those models.

They are not necessarily built using the same parts as their North American equivalents, especially Sony, so results will vary for PC use.

Ok. Yeah, I live in Europe (Spain); didn't know the models were different, but it totally makes sense.

If you want picture quality go with a CCFL lit LCD. I personally haven't see any low end LED's that don't suffer from blooming on bright scenes. Only full array LED's are worth considering if PQ is crucial IMO.
