Hi folks.

It's time to upgrade my PC/Xbox gaming panel to something that displays text well and has as little latency as possible. My budget is in the $500 or less range.
Is that realistic?

I'd like to stay between 37 to 40 inches. I'd also prefer low glare and I don't need 120hz, unless someone here can enlighten me how it would benefit gaming.

It's been years since I've looked at tv's, is plasma a good choice at all?

Thank you for any advice.

Look for an IPS panel set, which means LG or Panasonic. That budget is more suitable for a CCFL-LCD, which is my opinion is preferable to a edge-lit LED-LCD anyway.

Thank you.

Any current models you can suggest?

Also what is 4:4 and does it help with displaying text correctly?

A good CCFL-LCD is the LG 37LK450 or 42LK450 with the S-IPS panel.

Seconded.

Regarding the the 4:4:4 support, the short answer is, you do want it if you're running the display as a PC monitor. It improves text clarity. The longer answer I've quoted below.

However, in my personal experience, *everything* looks blurry and slightly off without 4:4:4. Picture quality is obviously subjective, but based on my A/B test (A = LG LD450 with 4:4:4, B = LG LD450 without 4:4:4), there is a clear night-and-day difference between the two.

Another good source of info.

I'm using an older LG 32LD450 myself as a PC monitor and enjoy it quite a bit.

Awesome.

Thank you for the replies.

We actually have an LG 42LD450 in the family room I may have to replace with my 40' Sony.

The wife wont notice will she? Naw!

Although my thinking is if i can find a decent 37' the dot pitch will be a bit more dense. I wish we could have more info on the pixel density of current panels today.
