Hello Folks!

I've been lurking here for quite some time, researching and shopping for a new LCD TV... Figured it was finally time to sign up officially and post a question!

I just got back from one of my local BB stores and saw a Sharp LC-70C6400U on display. I hadn't heard of this model so I quickly googled it on my smartphone, only to find nothing about it, except for Energy Star certifications and a quick blurb of how its a new arrival at the said BB store. I even looked for it on articles I know of from CES, thinking it might be one of the new 2012s, but I still can't find it or any details about it. I of course searched the forums here and still came up empty. Maybe I'm missing something obvious?

Does anyone here know about this model? And what it's detailed specs are and such? Thanks in advance!

There is supposed to be a 640, not a 6400 (to my knowledge anyway). Maybe it was mis marked? The 640 replaces the 632.

Stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder.

The model number is definitely correct - I even made sure to verify it with the factory number right on the huge carton box. If you google the model number, you'll see which big-box store I'm talking about - its the only one you'll see carrying it right now and is marked as a new arrival. I'd say the name of the store, but I believe I saw somewhere here that I'm not allowed to post store names/pricing info/etc correct? I'm a newbie here and want to make sure I follow the rules

I also find it interesting that the only other google results for this model are in reference to the Energy Star qualifications for it. I am quite perplexed as to where this model is coming from. Is Sharp known to release new models without any notice at all?

Well this is coincidence. I was at Costco, with intention to purchase the LC-70LE733U model, but all they had was this mysterious LC-70C6400U. I started searching the internet from my phone, and saw that this post was merely an hour old. I went ahead and bought it (because I'm impulsive like that). I'm just annoyed at the lack of information about it. There's a QR code on the box that points to the sharp website with a specific link to this model, but it redirects to oblivion. The specs in the manual are pretty sparse as well. Everything I've seen matches the 733U, except it's 88Lbs with the stand as opposed to the 99lbs that the 733U weighs. I figured I'd check it out since I have 90 days to return it if I don't like it.

Sharp seems to release a lot of their models and then putting them on their website afterwards. Some times it's a few days, but for some other models it can be weeks to a month or so. I would email Sharp and ask them for information, though they may not even have the specifications out internally.

IMO I rather have a company that is slow to publish information on released models than companies that put all kinds of information out about products that are yet to be released and some times never released.

Jason

The 6400U is a product for Sams, Costco, BJ's and other warehouse outlets.

Keep in mind that if it is indeed a newer model of the 6300u then it will not have a C.M.S for color calibration.

like you I saw the sharp AQUOS® LC-70C6400U 70" Class.
I watch it versus the quattron.
The yellow on a cartton are definitely better.
but for all other movie IMO it is not worth the $800 difference.

other than that same as you cannot find anything on the LC-70C6400 70"

Costco now has the LC-70LE733U, LC-70632U, and the LC-70C6400U online. My guess would be the LC-70C6400U is the new 2012 model that would be comparable to the 632U but adds AquaMotion 240. The 733U has the Quattron quad pixel.

Jason

I just checked my set. Admittedly I am ignorant as to what CMS was, i have it in my menus for color adjustments.
Oh, and I shot Sharp an email asking for specs, and here's their reply.

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting Sharp Electronics Corporation.

I apologize. While this model enters our systems and shows a first sales date of this month, we have yet to receive the manual for it and its release was in advance of our 2012 brochure.

I

I have made a note at my desk and have your email address. As soon as the documentation catches up I'll send you out the specifications.

So no help there.

Again, I apologize for the delay.

So how is this 70" 6400U model ?

How well does it handle fast motion ?

My Costco has 4 of them, and I'm pretty tempted to grab one.....

I think the 60 inch samsung had a slightly better picture, but it had the glass sreen in front, and tha isn't good in my situation.....

Plus, with nothing right next to it to compare it to, I think I'd be happy with the picture.....

Maybe I'll pick it up tomorrow, if I can get my buddy that has the truck.....

The Sharp website has all eight models of their 70" tvs, but of course there is so little information about them, you can't tell what the difference is between them. Can't believe even when you contact them directly, they don't know what the difference is.

No but I saw that the Sharp Website has the operation manual up for this set and it's brother in the 80 inch version known as the lc-80le633u. So apparently the 80 inch 632 sets are no longer being made. Can't find any differences between last years and this years 80 inch 120hz Sharp sets.

I too see the LC70C6400U model at my Costco.

Any owner out there ? Does this TV allow accessing any web site with its browser or are you limited to their apps ? On page 61 of the manual it seems to indicate that you can access any URL ? ("Using the Internet") Is that true ?

It is an edge lit panel. Price varies - 2200 to 2500 range.

I'm happy to help with questions about the new Sharp LC-70C6400U 70-incher. I purchased my set online from Sam's Club and had it delivered last Monday, April 2, 2012. My wife and I finally got around to hooking it up on Wednesday.

It wasn't too bad a job, but the instruction book is heavy duty and the set lacks what would be the quick set up instructions that usually come with a PC these days.

We were able to get it all put together and hooked up to my set top box but had trouble with two things. The first one was where to find how to select which input source to use. I finally figured out I needed to press the "input" button on the remote control which brought up a selection menu. I then had to scroll to my input and select it. Wasn't at all clear in the instruction book.

The Wi-fi internet connection was confusing as well. I ended up calling the Sharp Aqous Advantage hot line (number was on the box) where Josh got me straightened out and on line in about 5 minutes.

So with that done, we were able to watch the TV. At this point we are very happy with the TV. Nice picture and sound. Last night we streamed an HD movie from Cinema Now and enjoyed the picture quality and motion very much - I get about 18 Mbps download).

On the point of being LED or LCD, I think Sharp has been a little deceptive here. On the box and on a removable label on the screen it says it is LED. But the manual and specs say it is an LCD with edge-lit LED. The machine isn't that thick and my wife and I were able to manage carrying it from the couch where I attached the stand to the TV table upon which it now sits without any major medical malfunctions.

So, all in all, we're happy with it and happy with the 70" size. It really needed to be that big because we have it in our large family room. Anything smaller wouldn't have worked.

I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have of an owner should you care to ask.

Asianfoody - glad to see the unit in someone's actual hands, would love to get your thoughts on a few points as I'm looking to pick one up in next few weeks:

-thoughts on off angle viewing: does the picture quality diminish dramatically at 45 degree angle and under

-as others have asked, dark corners? cross hatch pattern? DSE?

-do you have any experience with other brands in large screen tvs that you can compare it to?

thanks.

asianfoody,

There is no deception by Sharp, LED is LCD there is not a current "LED" HDtv that is not LCD (it's simply the lighting method used to light the LCD panel, they used to be mostly CCFL-LCD's so now they use LED's to make them lighter, thinner, and 'possibly' use less power).

For those asking, this set should have no DSE (diamond pattern) as it is edge-lit (unlike the previous 70" 632 that was back-lit) and as an edge-lit lcd it will most likely have some degree of flash-lighting and clouding (just how much will vary set to set and beyond that some owners see it and some don't really notice when it's slight). Having seen most of the 2012 Sharps it does appear that they are coming better calibrated out of the box than the 2011's. I am not saying they are 6500k/D65 with factory presets but they do look slightly better IMHO.

Thanks DaGamePimp,

Question, I just received the 70LE733U from Sharp, which one of your calibrations should I try for this TV?

I know it won't be perfect, but it would be nice to have a place to start from.

Thanks.

Actually none of my calibrations are designed for the 7xx series and more than likely will not cross over as the quad pixel displays are different, sorry.

Referring to the Sharp LC-70C6400U ....Thanks DaGamePimp for clarifying about LED and LCD. For those asking about dark corners, cross hatch pattern, DSE etc, I don't notice any. We're very happy with the picture. I will attempt to upload some pics I took yesterday. The TV is working straight out of the box and although you will see a little fuzziness on some letters and in a couple of pics that's due to my unsteady hands and not the TV pic.

On off angle viewing: 45 deg seems fine, I walked around to 179 degrees and could still see the picture, I just wouldn't want to watch anything from over there.

I have two other LG HDTV, one is 42" and the other is 47" probably not more than 2 years old and both are also fine. Just really like them both.

I just bought the Sharp LC-70C6400U at my local Costco.

I'm waiting for all my HDMI cables, wall plates, speaker wire, etc. (Not paying BB or Target retail for cables and wire! $34.99 for a 9ft HDMI is freaking ridiculous) to be delivered, and I will gladly post a review of this unit.
