If you did not get and XBR, that is any easy answer. Get the Sharp.

Strange that they don't allow a true 240 mode.

It is possible the "Off" is 240 but it just says normal so who knows.

Motion Enhancement
Use Motion Enhancement to view fast-action video
more clearly.
■ LC-80LE844U
AquoMotion480: Turn the LED backlight on or off for
240Hz drive display.
AquoMotion240: Turn the LED backlight on or off for
120Hz drive display.
120Hz High/120Hz Low: For obtaining a clearer image.
Off: Normal image.

I did read somewhere yesterday that the 240 and 480 settings were merely LED backlight strobing and 120 was the actual pixel refresh rate. Disappointing - as there is pretty good evidence that 3D definitely benefits from an actual 240 rate as that allows a black interval frame to be inserted between actual frames (thereby reducing crosstalk and overall brightness too!!), without making the video too choppy. I've seen a few 3D sets at 120HZ and there is this constant, almost subliminal, flickering. Of course, like DLP rainbows, not everyone will see it but you should check for it before you invest this much for a TV ......IF the 3D is important to you.

So how about some reviews of this beast. I know it does not have local dimming but how is it overall?

I ordered one pair of those from Pauls and I also ordered one pair of "GBSG03-JP: iTrek 3D Active Shutter Glasses for Sharp AQUOS 3D TV" from Amazon for almost half price. I will test them both and see if I can get by with the cheaper pair .

I also ordered a Sharp LC80LE844U from Pauls tv as well today. They are offering 2 free pairs of 3d glasses with purchase of TV, but since they gave me a great deal on the price they said they would have to exclude the free 3d glasses offer, so I bought 2 pairs of the Sharp glasses from them.

My TV arrives on Friday afternoon and my pair of glasses will hopefully arrive then too so I can watch some Masters in 3D during the weekend.

I keep measuring where it's gonna go and just can't fathom how big it will be...definitely excited.

I've got my ChadB calibration appointment happening either late this month or early next month for a perfect viewing experience.

Mine just came in from Cleveland Plasma today. I ordered it on Sunday. I can't believe how fast it got here. My 3d glasses came in from Amazon as well. Now I am just waiting on the stand which will get here on Monday.

I will work on getting some pics loaded.

I ordered my lc80le844u from stephanie at pauls tv yesterday morning and I just got my tracking number, I can not believe what a great price she got me. She was super helpful and beat every price out there but like the above guy said pauls tv would not lower the price with the glasses but with all the cash I saved I could by 10 pairs of glasses... Anyone actually try out the 3d on this yet? would love to know your opinion.

Thanks Jessica!!!

3D screen shot showing options available.

Attachment 242652

Background is one of Direct TV's 3D channels
Using Sharp AN-3DG20 re-chargeable 3D glasses. They were completely DOA. It took about 2 hours to get them charged to where they would actually convert the TV image into 3D.
I'm charging via the 2 usb connections on the TV itself. The manual for the glasses states that this is the only way to charge them. A review at Amazon said otherwise.
So far the 3D mage is bright and clear. My only other experience is with passive glasses so I'm not sure what to look for with the active glasses as far as concerns...
I have a 3D copy of Avatar (free via Panasonic 3D Bluray). I'll give it a try later.

So you can just charge the glasses with any USB port?

You can. USB is USB

Personally I wouldn't plug them into the TV. I have had enough USB ports Fail or short so why risk the tv for that. Purchase a small AC adapter with 4 + usb ports on it and pop it in your power strip

Sorry to be a pain but I am getting confused. Does the picture quality vary on the diff 80" models or is is just a matter of 120 vs 240 and 3d?

Until there a numbers of these New 80" sets out in the Wild , there is not going to be any personal comparisons yet . Soon we will get some reports from the new owners .

Send Photos , there a lot of hungry 80" wannabe's sitting on the fence
