I'm a firm believer that the 945 is still on track for this summer. I've talked to three Sharp Canada reps so far in the last 2 weeks and they've assured me that the 945 is still slotted for this summer. If all Sharp reps, this late in the game, are still being told that the 945 is on track then it would be a very odd move by Sharp if cancellation is pending. I guess if the 945 doesn't get released by mid-to-late September then we'll know for sure.

I mean no disrespect Cleaveland but you have a vested interest in us thinking the 945 will not come out. So you might be a bit biased.

I believe the $11,000 90" they have out now is local dimming.

Some users are reporting some Best Buy's are out of stock of the 844 model and will not be restocking it. Could this be a sign of happening inside of Sharp?

All that could mean is they are making room for the 847 model, since that replaces the 844 model.

I thought the 847 was exclusive to Sams Club and Costco.

I was just at Best Buy yesterday and they said the LC-70LE945U was cancelled. I just read the thread today and emailed Sharp, they said Summer 2012. I replied with the following:

Jeffrey, we are in the middle of Summer 2012. Best Buy reps are saying LC-70LE945U has been cancelled.

Their response below.

Dear Mr XXXXX

Thank you for contacting Sharp Electronics Corporation.

While not yet in general distribution there are retailers and sites taking pre-orders on this model:

I need a 70" for the bedroom as my wife has a bad back & can no longer sit at a desk , she now loves to work on her HTPC in there , the bedroom 46" Sharp just is not cutting it ... The edge lighted Sharps Suck ...
I've been waiting on this since all the 70"ers went to edge lighted models ....................... smile.gif
she's not a stickler for PQ so I'll get this instead of a Elite

use that cash $ saved for a 80" Elite if & when it comes ... as I type away on my 632 80" @ the moment eek.gif

That's awesome. Can't wait for its release. The reviewer must already know the MSRP as he mentioned it's on the expensive side. Wonder how expensive it's gonna be.

It's supposed be an "Elite lite" so it probably has less dimming zones, and maybe not quite as many bells and whistles. Might be on par with the SonyHX929.

The reviewer must already know the MSRP as he mentioned it's on the expensive side. Wonder how expensive it's gonna be.

That's a very subjective statement really. I'm sure it is expensive compared to the edge lit Sharp 70". My guess is a MSRP of $5499 for the 70". It can't be that much more expensive because the actual Elite is down to about a grand more than that. If it's over 6K, there would be little reason to chose this over the Elite.

It will be interesting to see the actual differences between it and the Elite. I see they are retaining the yellow subs and yet the reviewer mentioned nothing about cyan errors. wink.gif

I bet the only reason the cyan errors on the Elite are mentioned at all is because of the price tag. At the original MSRP, every little imperfection is magnified ten fold.

as the cyan issue is hardware based on the Elite( as stated by a few that say they are in the Know smile.gif ) , this better be fixed on this model OR there will Howls of Protests ...Sharp will be Rightly so Slammed Big Time if the issue of the cyan problem is present on the 945 by all of the Video Enthusiast crowd .

I just spoke with the manager of a HiFi house I buy all of my electronics from. I asked him to call his rep at Sharp to find out for sure. His response back to me was "DEAD" .

I'm just the messenger,
I'm very upset because I have been holding out for months waiting for this unit.

The set has already been released to reviewers and they are taking pre-orders from retailers. It's happening. The only question is how does it compare to the Elite and what is the price. If they drop the dimming zones from 280 down to 8, then that wouldn't be good. Or if the quality is comparable but the price is only slightly lower than what you can get the Elites for now, then that would not work either. There is going to have to be a fair size price difference to prevent overlap.

I'm not saying that won't happen, but I can not see any benefit at all to the company by releasing the set for review when they have no intention of producing it. One of two things are going on. One, the set is not going to be released but they are telling the reps to say it is to get everyone excited. And they made just one or two sets to give to reviewers to help keep up the charade. Or two, they are going release it but there is some miscomunication within the company about it's future. My guess is there was talk about postponing or canceling the set for whatever reason. But after they decided to go ahead with production, not everyone got the information.
