I know the option to enable those modes is also not very easy to find. The only way for me to tell you exactly where to go to find them is to go back in the service menu myself and find it again. I don't want to do that because you reset all your settings when you enter the service menu, even if you don't change a single thing.

Lets complicate everything a little more. There is a way to access the "extended" service menu with multiple tweaking and tuning posibilities. Have anyone tried this?

That looks like the standard service menu to me. Nothing special about that.

From most of the reports in these forums you will not get a 65" without banding, but if you get one that's less pronounced, could you live with it now you know what to look for ?

Prme19...boo yah! You bet..this FW is the real deal and I only tweak from the defaults. I will post my settings asap. With this 1046.2, I feel like I just got a new 8000.

Looks like you're moving to the 60". I could post some pictures of my 65" Sammy - - and the only place where you really notice banding is ....hockey! Golf, as well, but not as pronounced. As everyone says - - the 60" appears to suffer much less from banding than the 65".

And as I commented before - - the banding, even on hockey, isn't uniform. I watched a game a couple weeks ago from Edmonton - - and I don't know if it's the ice or what, but no visible banding. Then, I'll see a home Colorado Avs game and some on NHL Network - - and it's hit and miss.

Zero banding on football, basketball, baseball - - for the most part. Sometimes, with a panning shot from the cheap handhelds - - you can see some banding. I've learned to live with it because going from a 65" to 60" doesn't sound like much but I was amazed at the difference in perceived size. Five inches doesn't sound like much (that's what she said!) - - but it's very noticeable to me.

So - - I live with the minimal banding on my 65" and with CNN and most all HD movie channels (and especially Bluray/3D) - not there. Occasional "sky" panning shot but I've gotten used to it. The colors and sharpness are stone cold killer since the last update.

just for reference I am using Calman 5.0.4 (enthusiast) software, Calman C-6 meter profiled to a i1Pro meter, DPG2000 pattern generator.

So my 55" ES8000 was declared DOA today. I'm entitled to a refund or replacements. It seems to me like there are a lot of happy owners of the 55". What would you all recommend? Because I watch a lot of sports I notice banding really easily. Is it worth taking the time to swap panel after panel? Can I get a good one? Is there anything I can look out for in terms of build date or the panel used that will increase my chances of getting a winner?

Hi, everyone. I just bought a un55es8000. It shows to be a "November" build date.. Is that a good thing? I have watched it for a couple of hours , while watching dark scenes and even vertical letter box content and have not seen any light bleed or clouding so far.. I find the picture quality to be ok, but not as good as i expected. I also have a GT50, and so far that seems to have much better PQ.. But i guess i still need to play around with the settings,, I already tried a few different picture settings and the picture seems to be getting better../

Panasonic GT50 55"
Pansaonic VT60 60"

I posted a few pages back with a photo of the issue. Basically horizontal banding from top to bottom and a thick vertical band in the centre. I'm from Australia and whilst I haven't heard many negatives on here about the 55", I've heard heaps of issues over on avforums. Don't know what to do because I love the set otherwise if I can get one without banding.

ahhhh yeah i remember that one now that was horrible,

Well i just went into work and the sammy rep pulled a few strings for me no service center guy need to come, So i was going to order in the 60" but thought hmmmm the 55es8000 is 2800 1k cheaper so i done that and so i ended up with another blurap player and a 46" es6600 for the games room

So ill give the 55 ashot and if i have any problems ill try and hold off untill the new series comes out. 55" is perfect size for the distance we are from the TV

In 3D my 60" is exhibiting very bad cross talk. My 55" didn't have this, and my father's 65" doesn't, either. Is this a known issue with the 60" sets, or could I have a problem with my set? Would different glasses resolve the issue?

Back off man, I'm a scientist.

personally for me since i am MOSTLY gaming & using it as a PC monitor i will not go bigger then 55"
though i have gotten used to this size & i can now see how addictive it is in going bigger & bigger & bigger.
this 55" now seems the same as my old 50" c8000.
1 other thing, keep checking NCIX.ca since they had a sale Jan 24-27 55"- $1799 & 60"- $2398.
Make SURE u sign up for their news email cause that was the ONLY way to have known or gottan that price.
I have seen similar prices mentioned on their forums in sept/oct.
i had already bought it from BB & then price matched it.
@ this price ur better off with 2 x55"...hope u catch a sale.
lastly, 5" for additional $1100 i would never do.

I find the picture quality to be ok, but not as good as i expected. I also have a GT50, and so far that seems to have much better PQ.. But i guess i still need to play around with the settings,, I already tried a few different picture settings and the picture seems to be getting better../

update ur firmware ASAP & then do the factory reset.......after that come tell us how ur gt50 compares biggrin.gif

though i have gotten used to this size & i can now see how addictive it is in going bigger & bigger & bigger.
this 55" now seems the same as my old 50" c8000.
1 other thing, keep checking NCIX.ca since they had a sale Jan 24-27 55"- $1799 & 60"- $2398.
I have seen similar prices mentioned on their forums in sept/oct.
i had already bought it from BB & then price matched it.
@ this price ur better off with 2 x55"...hope u catch a sale.
lastly, 5" for additional $1100 i would never do.

yeah i ended up with this

Well i just went into work and the sammy rep pulled a few strings for me no service center guy need to come, So i was going to order in the 60" but thought hmmmm the 55es8000 is 2800 1k cheaper so i done that and so i ended up with another blurap player and a 46" es6600 for the games room

So ill give the 55 ashot and if i have any problems ill try and hold off untill the new series comes out. 55" is perfect size for the distance we are from the TV

FlyGuyJake, After I did my full reset I tweaked from the defaults in standard mode, turned off most processing and I did leave 3D in default other than dialing back sharpness.

Backlight 11 (10 is also in the sweet spot)
contrast 95
brightness 45 (no need yet to raise this to turn off auto dimming, will tinker but its not a "settings" issue)
sharpness 20 (i could dial back to 15 on some material)
color 49
screen at screen-fit
Dynamic Contrast and Black tone OFF
Color space Native
Gamma 0
Motion Light OFF (but tinkering)
Color tone Warm-1
Dig and Mpeg filter OFF
AMP Standard (love it, sorry purists)
LED Motion OFF

Audio out via Optical to Soundbar ( i have absolutely noticed better sound and less synch issues)
***regarding synch issues, all i do is switch to a different input and back and it corrects any synch issues all the time. I use all 3 hdmi inputs direct. Peeps with an AVR feeding one input have to resolve that differently.
Eco Sensor OFF
Energy Saver OFF

I did not and will not update the SmartHub on the 8000. I am running the current Smart Hub flawlessly via my bd-e6500 bluray and prefer to separate the tasks. My 8000 is once again cutoff from the outside world until I hear of an update where a supermodel comes out of the tv in 3d and sprinkles pixie dust on my fruit basket...

...prme19, yes indeed and I edited that post...how can I possibly typo the fw update that my bro's here named after me.

This TV is simply amazing...again. After the update the blacks (and details) are very very close to what we think of as good quality plasma blacks BUT...in fairness to the 8000, I saw a calibrated VT50 (Steelers vs Ravens) and the Ravens helmets were black as the abyss BUT...the pants were so so black that you really had to raise the levels up to see detail in the fiber and texture of the uniform. Sometimes these abyss dark blacks are unnaturally dark. My 8000 absolutely shows the Ravens Uniform in a more true and realistic manner. In real life we do see texture...not just inky dark.

I want ALL of my neighbors to own plasmas because...when they step into my family room they video "Shock and Awe" and see how its supposed to be done. I have a neighbor with a VT50...he cant get enough of my 8000. Dont get me wrong, the VT50 is an excellent tv, superior to most BUT...it aint the 8000.

Love for all things Hi-def...Losing count; 200 plus bluray, 500 plus dvd, 30 plus HDdvd and a rapidly growing 50 plus in the cloud.

THX blade, seems your settings are pretty much what i used before trying out 10K's.
the only main differences was that AMP created anomilies/odd texturing on dark surfaces & i normally have energy saver on low.
I find turning the saver completely off is too bright for my eyes.
Also to any gamers out there i find i like the look of "natural mode" for many of the games i play.I normally don't have backlight on higher then 11 for any mode with exception of natural being on 14..
well, i hope more gamers add info on what they use with this TV, i am totally in love with this es8000.
I wonder what the difference is between the 46 & the 55 when it comes to input lag, i read the bigger the screen the worse the input lag, any1 know?

lastly, doesn't the smart hun automatically update itself?
Most of the items in smart hub i find Useless, i'd like to delete 75% of it if possible & not have samsung redownload/update those.
