10K did you ever buy the EVO kit? I'd love to see your calibration results with one installed. I'm not a calibrator by any means, so I've been waiting patiently for someone with a kit to post some calibrated settings (with the latest firmware) since it was released, but nada so far

No evo kit sorry. I use an HTPC so its a bit pointless for me. I'm pretty much done buying TV things until OLED becomes affordable smile.gif

Ok I gotcha. Maybe someone else will chime in eventually with some calibrated settings for it, but I admit it looks quite nice with your settings already anyway

For what I paid when it was first released I feel like the new UI, remote, and features makes it worthwhile. I think its kind of funny the new Xbox offers a lot of the same types of improvements that the evo kit does (i.e. slicker interface/a few minor features/more processing power) over the 360 but also little in the way of substance (IMO) and people are happily shilling out $500 for that to continue playing games in 720p! I'm not hating of course as I will probably get one eventually (but the PS4 and 1080p gaming is definitely first on my list) but we all like our gimmicks some moreso than others

10k,

so you current setting for your 55" ES 8000 for both movie and standard are the one page 399?

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1399319/official-samsung-unxxes8000-owners-thread/11940#post_22933867

reason i am asking is because since i updated tv firmware to 1051 i noticed crazy clouding issue with the setting and it work very nice before.

even by setting the backlight to 4 it is still very obvious frown.gif

thanks.

gamermwm, i have EVO kit installed on my 55 ES8000 TSO1 panel running latest firmware and I've just started calibrating my tv with colormunki display, i can tell you now that it really does differ tv to tv. 10k and i have the same panel, but are settings are way different from each other. I guess it depends how one calibrates their tv to get to to the proper measures. or maybe i'm not doing it the right way biggrin.gif i still have a lot to learn.

I had this question answered over on the evolution forum site, and I think it makes good sense, that the evo kits FW takes over when loaded...but, has anyone updated to FW 1054 and added the evo kit?

I have FW 1051 for my TV and then the evo kit installed, with its FW of 1009, I do know that when I take the evo kit off, the FW reverts to 1047. Using this logic, I was wondering if it would revert to 1051, if I installed 1054 on my TV, and then re-installed the evo kit? Or does it matter at all?

Oh what the heck...I think I will just try my little experiment....:-)

Hey thanks for the reply I'd look forward to trying your settings no matter the outcome or results. You would actually be the first person to post any calibration with the evo kit installed. You are on the latest firmware as well?

Anyone know if there is a way to side load an updated version of Netflix on an es7500 that supports 3D without having to spend $200 for the EVO kit? I find it rather strange that Samsung would not give us a Netflix update on a TV that is only 1 years old and would force us to buy a whole kit for this.

The kit supports a new video codec as does the "f" line of bluray players from this year and I know for a fact that some of them also stream Netflix's "Super HD" (1080p not 720p HD as before) and in 3D for select movies. As for spending $200 on one It should be a lot less than that if you are a savvy buyer

So you don't think the 2012 line of Samsung TVs can support 3D playback from Netflix? I find that hard to believe.

My PS3 can obviously play 3D videos from Netflix so I wouldn't buy the EVO kit just for that but it is a little bit of an inconvenience and sad to see that Samsung wouldn't update their 2012 line. Heck, Netflix should be update for all their smart TVs.

As far whether they "can" support the new HEVC codec with the processing power it has sans evo kit, I don't know for sure. The PS3 however is a powerful machine and a multimedia device that is still being manufactured so I can see why Sony would pay the new licensing fees to include the codec on PS3's when it became available and Netflix began to use it. At least there is a way to upgrade for 2012 owners...you may have reason to be upset but imagine how spoiled you look in comparison to someone with a non upgradeable set that has no way to get the new codec (w/o an external device) that allows streaming in half the bandwidth it took before. There's only so much you can expect to get from a company via updates when a device is over a year old anyway. I mean we could talk all day about what a company could and should do, but all that matters in the end is what they did do and what your options are - and at least you do have an option to upgrade and get the codec whether you pay $100 for a kit or $50 or more for one of the bluray players that can do it

Took a few pictures using prme's movie mode calibration w/the Evo kit on the latest firmware. These are his exact settings, except with the black enhancer setting on (preference). These were not taken in a full dark room. I've been pleasantly suprised with how well they translated to my set

Do the 3D movies from Netflix come with the $8/month subscription or are they pay perview like VuDu? I have the Evo Kit, so I'd just use the Netflix app on the Smarthub eh? How many 3D titles to they have? I tried some on VuDu but they only had some half baked 3D content. I rent mine by the disc online. And I did try prme's Movie settings. They are good, but I still (and my wife too) like the Standard ones I more or less started with (Garnoch).

Samsung ES8000 65", Evo Kit installed, Yamaha AVR with Paradigm speakers, iMac, iPad, Apple TV and HTC One phone.

Netflix I believe still has 2 separate plans - one for streaming and one for disc by mail. If you have the streaming plan then you just stream 3D movies via the Netflix app the same way you stream 2D movies, it doesn't ask you to pay by the movie or anything like that. The streaming quality is really good as long as your internet speed is decent - and as for that the new HEVC codec that the kit provides (and Netflix has implemented) allows you to stream each 3D movie in half the bandwidth it would have taken before (ie. instead of being a stream taking 2X the bandwidth of full HD it will stream in the same amount as HD did w/o the kit) and regular HD content will stream in half the bandwidth it did before which provides a smoother more buffer free performance

With the kit when you boot the Netflix app on your tv you should see that most HD movies are now listed as "Super HD" meaning that they are now showing in 1080p (opposed to 720p "normal" netflix HD). Also you should see a section for 3D movies along with the other sections such as Action, Drama, etc. Just note that some movies are available in 3D that don't show up in the 3D section if you search for them

Has anyone replaced the panel inside? My daughter threw a toy at my son, missed, and guess what she hit?...the screen is cracked. Samsung won't honour the warranty because of physical damage. It happened a few months ago but now its in my basement collecting dust.

Can it be fixed at a reasonable cost? Where can I get parts ...the panel?

arghhh, heheh. thats what i was trying to avoid. because it is hung on the wall kind of a pain in the butt.. but will look in a bit.. i did find the type in the service menu, it is a 1st gen samsung by the a in the type. and everything else i knew by the specs, (hrz, edge lit led, full hd and so on) only thing i couldnt find out was if it is one of these,,,,, Spva>Amva>Smva

ohh and by the way it sucked being in the service menu also! i was on the factory reset tab and hit the power button and bam it reset my settings! had to go through the whole settings over again! how to back out of service menu without it applying settings?

OHH AND ONE OTHER QUESTION?

while i was in service menu it showed my set was purchased on 7/13/2013 which is NOT TRUE! i purchased it 4/15/2012... if my receipt was to be LOST would samsung use this purchase date in the service menu to validate my warranty accordingly?
just a thought smile.gif))

I have a PS4 hooked up (plus a PS3 and a XBox360). I am noticing a bit more lag (in Standard mode) on the PS4, especially when playing something like Pinball Arcade. The flippers are slower to respond than on the PS3 version. If I turn on Game Mode, everything gets much better. It's a bit odd, since I never needed to use it in the past. Does anyone know if lag time in gaming is reduced when using an EVO kit? If so, is the performance boost worth the extra cost? I couldn't care less about the rest of the Smart TV functions. They are of little or no benefit to me.
