I have had the 55ES8000 now for about 18 months. The 1st one went faulty in just a couple of weeks and took more then double the time to have it resolved. As a matter of fact, Samsung was very little help and it was the shop I purchased it from who replaced it on their own accord, as they got sick of the stall practices by Samsung.
Now the 2nd panel has just become faulty. Vertical streaks on the LHS. You see this often in PC Monitors and at our work, I have never seen one repaired yet. Either a write off or replacement required.
Not looking forward having to deal with Samsung again.
Yes, there can be problems. It took the third set before I finally found a Samsung keeper. If you look through the other TV threads, you'll notice returns and problems, as well. The panel "lotto" has been discussed at length concerning LCD/LED TV's. I'm not sure if this has been cured - - even with the 4K sets and "FALD" features.

That being said, it's newer technology. I expect problems. That's why I'm such a firm believer in an extended warranty. (I went through SquareTrade via Costco.)

Sorry to hear about your TV. I hope you get an adequate replacement or full refund.

Hey everybody! I thought I'd drop in and see if there was still any traffic in this thread. It's nice to see some familiar faces are still here!

I'm still rocking the 65ES8000. Have been considering a Samsung 4K in either 75" or 80", but haven't really done any research yet. That's a good thing! I'll probably get more involved in the search to replace the ES8000 in about a year.

Jestered - nice to see you back! How old is your ES8000? I'm planning on keeping my panel for another four years - - at least.

OLED is the only technology that is inviting to me. Remember - - with 4K/HDR and all the bells & whistles and lack of content, you'll need to upgrade everything along the chain - -new receiver, bluray player, set top box and cables to be "4K" compliant in the future.

That's an investment I'm not willing to make.

My 55ES8000 still does hearth/living room duty, but I recently upgraded my "theater" plasma to a 78HU9000. I haven't upgraded anything else yet, but plan to go 4K BluRay player once those become available (then I'll also need to upgrade the AVR; my current one from 2012 has 4K upconversion, but the TV does a better job). For now, I get 4K Netflix via the Hub, and the up-conversion on standard Blu-Ray is stunning on this set

Hey Rico! I got my ES8000 in September 2012. The only reason I've been considering another TV is because I'm bored with it all now. What I mean by that is I spent a lot of time calibrating the TV, then when I was satisfied with that I ended up replacing my entire sound system (AVR, amp, all new Polk speakers, and a new kick-ass SVS sub). I absolutely love everything about my entire setup. Everything from the TV picture quality to the great sound. There's just nothing to play with anymore.

I have realized that when I do go to a 4K TV that I'll need to replace quite a bit of equipment that I've spent a decent amount of $$$ on (not that long ago). In reality I'll probably wait another 3 years or so before making that switch again.

Plus, I've been doing quite a bit of home automation stuff at my house, so there's plenty for me to "play" with without blowing up my whole TV setup.

This isn't supposed to sound bad but you should just learn to really appreciate what you do have and enjoy the films.

I did say that I love my setup, so I obviously enjoy and appreciate it. Otherwise, why would I love it?

This isn't supposed to sound bad, but <derogatory remark here>.

I'm not a child, so your wisdom is not necessary. Thanks though.

I'd like to upgrade to a set of KEF LS50's or R300's, but that is pretty far down the list at the moment.

Hi 10k.

i did get the Klipsch R 10b soundbar. It's amazing for the money and perfect for the room and usage here however your input is always appreciated.

The Klipsch is insanely detailed for a soundbar, especially at this price point. Base is tight, controlled and booms when it should.....but I digress from our 8000 topic.

Love my panel and the more I window shop now the happier I am to see this new wave shake out over the next 2 to 3 years.

Hey Blade, congrats on the new SB combo, that's awesome!

If you guys recall, I was able to work a deal when I purchased my 55ES8000, and got the difference for the (at the time) free Samsung soundbar/wireless sub combo on the Klipsch SB3 combo; which looks similarly spec'd to yours, besides the down-firing 10" versus your side-firing 8" sub. I would highly recommend either if a good 2.0 or decent 3.1 AVR solution isn't a viable solution.

Glad to hear things worked out so well! I spent some time window shopping since my last post and basically came to the conclusion that there really isn't any reason to upgrade from the ES8000 unless you needed to change screen size. Some of the user reviews on even the newest LG OLED's seem to have problems worse than any LCD! Check out all the posts about moving/changing vertical black banding, yuck!

I think I'm on the 2-3yr wait and see timeframe as well. In the meantime I have been greatly enjoying my TV.

Cheers

Hey there 10k,

Very well said. No amazing advancements in picture quality, in these price ranges, since we got our 8000's. I've been wowed by some of the designs, the thinner bezels , cleaner designs on the rear side but...nothing really remotely tempts me to do anything.

Happily sitting on the sidelines for 2 to 3 more years as the new waves shake out the bugs and pricing.

Cheers mate!

Anybody hear anything as to whether there is going to be an evo kit in 2015 for this UNxxES8000 tv? The sek-3500 is not compatible, and can't find any current literature on if the sek-3000 is real or they simply renamed it to 3500. I contacted Samsung and they said sek-2000 is the most current evo available for the 8000 series, and they will not be making a more current evo that will be compatible with the 8000s

I have talked to the TV Repair shop and they have confirmed that the screen itself is faulty.
This is the third time (and 2nd TV) that the ES8000 has developed irreparable faults.
They are now in discussion with the extended warranty provider and Samsung if the screen itself will be replaced or if they replace the TV with a feature/quality comparable model.
At this stage I hope for the latter as this model appears to be having inherent design/manufacturing problems.

Unfortunate, Samsung decided to replace the entire screen.
I also have talked to Consumer Affairs that have confirmed that I have a case, but as the TV has already been replaced once (this is the 3rd repair, but first on the replacement model), it's technically the 1st on this specific TV/serial number.
To prove that the model is a dud and not just the specific TV, it will be easier to win the case, if I wait for this one to fall over. No matter if it's out of warranty or not (including the extended warranty).
If the TV lasts this time, I will be happy, but should it fail again, then I will ask to have it replaced with a different model.
I haven't got it back yet, hopefully next week some time.
Picture is great but reliability really sucks.

TV has come back.
Good part......best panel yet. Next to no clouding. Excellent blacks

Bad part......the repairer uses a company to pick up and drop off the TV's.
It arrived with just two screws in the stand instead of four and these are either the wrong ones or they have torn out the threads.
The whole thing wobbles a bit.
Tomorrow I will organize a few new screws (bolts), which are either 4mm or 6mm and see if I can fix that.
I have already let the repairer know about it.

"3D image detected"
Hi guys. Enjoying my TV for years now but lately this message pops up occasionally in the lower left of the screen when viewing cable channels (that have no 3D content).
"3D image detected, press 3D button on remote..." Then it goes away after a few seconds.

It's just a minor annoyance but if anyone has a clue or suggestion about how I might address this, please let me know.
BTW I have not done anything to the entire HT rig, TV, settings, connections, etc.
I do not see this message appear when playing SACD or DVDA.
TIA
SoM

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

Anybody hear any current updates on an Evolution Upgrade Kit for our TV's that is more current than SEK 2000 that came out a couple years ago? I heard rumors about a SEK-3000 upgrade for our TV coming out this year, but all info on it seems to be very dated. Just curious if our model year is possibly out of the loop for future upgrades past SEK-2000 that came out a couple years ago.
