Just curious if anyone has gone from a 50 to a 55? Was the size jump really worth it?

As some of you know I'm looking to upgrade my 5080HD, I do love the XBR 929 but was ultimately hoping for a 60.

However, it now appears the Sharp 945 may no longer be offered this year. LG's LM9600 may or may not be offered in 60 depending on what you read and will not be NANO. It's looking like my 60 inch options are going ot be quite limited.

Picture quality is extremely important coming from a Pioneer and I can't do a 65 in my living room, it just will not work. Ultimately, if the 60's are not going to be available should I consider a move to a 55? Should I wait it out yet another year?

Full array local dimming is a must and the Elite is just too expensive to justify at this point.

I agree 60 is ideal but I'm not taking a step back in PQ.

So you are asking if anyone has gone from a 50" PLASMA (since there are no 50" LCDs) to a 55" LCD?

God, I hope so.

Yeah I have a Plasma, why? I don't really see how relevant that is because I don't want to get sucked into a whole Plasma vs LCD debate at the moment.

They do make 52 inch LCD's and there are a few companies that had 49's at one point. I know the screen size is obviously bigger on the 55 just wondering if it's "Worth it" if that makes sense. The 55 XBR929 is getting pretty cheap and the LM9600 is up in the air as far as size goes...kicking around the idea of picking up a 929 in May if htese other 2012 sets dont materialize.

Panasonic made some pretty big leaps in PQ this year on their Plasma side so that may also be worth looking at...

Sony and Samsung starting in April will not allow discounting of their higher end units. If you're thinking about the Sony HX929, that great deal out now, will end in two days. Then it's back to map....minimum acceptable price structure their talking about. No more discounts anywhere, brick and mortar or online. If you can not afford the sharp Elite, then the next best set will be the Sony your thinking about. Always go for the biggest size you can fit, as long as the pq is great.

Anthem D2v, McIntosh MC205, Elite PRO-70X5FD, Oppo BDP-103, Dish hopper, Richard Gray Power Company 400S, B&W Nautilus, JL audio Fathom f113, Harmony One, empty wallet ;>)

it's better to get a superior 55" than a lesser 60"

I did. From a LG 50" plasma to a 55HX929. To be honest I didn't notice the size increase.

5" inches at the size range isn't a whole lot, but PQ should be much better

Honestly, your only choice for a full array local dimming 60" is the Elite unless you would like to go with a plasma again. The difference between a 50 / 55 isn't much but should be somewhat noticeable. However if you did get a 55, just keep in mind that the difference between a 55 / 60 isn't much either.

If you're looking at better immersion from a 50 to a 60, you'll get some but in all honesty it's irrelevant until you start getting in the 70"+ range.
