There are many different models of 70" TVs available from Sharp. Besides reading individual forums on each individual model (if you can find info on each of them), I thought it would be great to create a one stop shop of all models and the differences between them.

I checked both sharpusa.com and sharp.ca. While they have most, I dont see many models discussed here and that I see in stores.

This is the model list at both sites (70 inch only)

SharpUSA:
LC-70LE735U
LC-70LE734U
LC-70LE733U
LC-70LE732U
LC-70LE632U
LC-70C6400U
LC-70LE640U
LC-70LE745U

Sharp.ca
LC-70LE845U
LC-70LE745U
LC-70LE735U
LC-70LE734U
LC-70LE732U
LC-70LE640U
LC-70LE632U

Is there any way to tell based on model # what year it is from?

I dont see the following models at either site:
70-LE633U (available at Costco.ca)

C6400 - at FutureShop.com

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere that includes all models from all years, and the differences between them?

Thanks!!

The 70LE632, 732, 733, 734, 735 are all 2011 models. These are all Full-Array LED. The 632 does not have a Quattron panel. All the 73X models do. The 732 is 120Hz, and while I'm not sure about the 733 and 734 (they are warehouse store variants of the 732) I think they had Aquomotion 240 (120Hz + backlight strobing) and Quad Pixel Plus. The 735 is 3D.

The LE640 is the 2012 replacement for the 632. Wi-Fi, No Quattron Panel, Apps are now called "Smart Central." Redesigned frame that is thinner and partially brushed metal. The LE745 adds in 3D and a Web browser. The 845 is 240Hz with a Quattron Panel and 3D. All 2012 70-inchers are edge-lit.

So since 2011's are full array and 2012's are edge lit and no quattron panel is that a set backwards? It's also more expensive by a little bit.

I am also in Canada and am finding 732's becoming scarce.

It's difficult hunting Sharp 70"s in Canada.

I was hunting the 70LE735LE, but that is near extinct in Canada (well in the Toronto area for sure).. It is only available on bestbuy.ca, but sits marked as 'sold out' there.

This leaves me stuck shopping the 2012 edge lit (eww..) models. So if I'm looking for a 70" 3D with 240hz refresh rate, it leaves me with the LC-70LE845U, or a trip to a Buffalo bestbuy in a rental van:P

I was told last Sat that bestbuy (northern CA) will have most of the 2012 sharp 70's in by the end of may, at least the ones they're gonna get in.
Best,
jeff

My store already has the the 70" LE640 and LE845, for whatever reason last I checked the 70LE745 was not available yet but that may have changed. Last I checked the 70 632 and 732 were also still available.

On another note, the 80" 632 is transitioning from a Magnolia SKU to a core Best Buy SKU as the 80" 844 arrives.

Edge lit is a step backwards, but the quattron panel is debateable. A lot of people don't like the quattrons and it seems like Sharp is slowly getting rid of them.

I did my research (I also live in Canada) and decided on a 632 from Best Buy. It had the features I wanted at a good price. I would have been just as happy with a 732 but couldn't find one as cheap.

The 2012 model replacement for the 632, the 640, seems to be a definite step backwards for *more* money.

What are the avantages and disadvantages of each model? Can you rank them from best to worst. What features really don't make a difference? 120hz vs 240hz? Quattron? Edge lit or full array? I am going to buy a 70 inch sharp. I just want to know what models to try to get a deal on and what models to avoid. (If there are any). So far from what I've researched most are really happy with all models.

There are no best and worst models and there is no easy answer for you. The reality is you have to decide if certain features are important to you or not. 240 hz, Quattron, 3d.. they are all desirable to some and not to others. They all make a difference.

What I will say is if you just want a basic TV with a good picture quality go for the LC70LE632U while they last. It doesn't have Quattron, 240Hz, 3D or anything like that - but it does have a good picture quality at a great price.
