FINALLY I can adjust the size!! good old input (is your ok).. I bought it from ebay. I usally buy my tvs from amazon but thanks to that BLACK FRIDAY!!!! ALL the M3D550KD in the ($940) Range was gone only the $1,400 was left (Not Happening) So went on ebay saw one great condition SUPPOSE to come with everything except glasses confused.gif . Paid $800+Free Shipping Best deal I could find. So went to the movie theaters and took 4 RealD 3D glasses. So far everything seem good just need that remote. After carefully looking at the auction i'm suppose to get the Vizio XRV1D3 Remote not the slide out one.

Buying from eBay, is, well, buying from eBay. Caveat emptor. Black Friday deals are not what they used to be. The best deals are the 2 weeks or so before Christmas or mid-January to mid-February. If your tv stays trouble-free and you get everything you paid for that's cool. I'm assuming that the RealD 3D glasses were free? Otherwise.....

I got the m3d550kde from SAMs on Thursday, yes...super flash lighting and hot spots but I expected it...yes it's annoying but I have a Kuro to calm my nerves : ). I must say the 3d is just awesome. I watched finding nemo and was blown away. No crosstalk whatsoever and the glasses were nice and comfy. If there is a better passive 3d tv with a price point like the Vizio let me know I will consider as I have 30 days....

I like the Bluetooth slide out remote better since its not IR like the flipper remote you do not have to keep it pointed at the sensor while typing.

I know the backlight bleedthrough and flashing is pretty bad. I was watching the dark knight returns last night and it was really noticeable with the lights off. The good news is as soon as you turn on any lights in the room the blacks look really good. We ended up finishing the movie on my acer 9500 with a 120" screen and the blacks looked pretty good.

The M3D550KDE does not have the local dimming like the M3D550KD this is a plus and minus for the bleed black issue. After carefully setting up and calibrating my M3D550KD I rarely notice the bleed issue just watched Tron and Tron: Legacy and those are some black movies with bright colors throughout and noticed no bleed.

We attached a Dell PC up to this set last night (via an Onkyo TX-NR609 AVR using HDMI) and I also noticed that that the advanced picture settings were not available but I did not find the need for them. We watch a streaming music concert and it was awesome.

Advanced picture options are quite often not available on most tv's when using PC mode. However, if your pc connection provides you with what you want, it's a moot point.

I have my Mac Mini hooked up to an Onkyo TX NR515 via HDMI and all the TV options are available including the Advance make, sure your receiver is set to pass the video signal through vs add any enhancing on the revivers end.

For some reason I can't get my pc games to show 3D.. I change the resolution on both pc and game to 720p 60hz. The 3D detection turned on but no effects?
the games I tried was Blur, Borderland 2 and need for speed hot pursuit.I hit info and it only show 720p HD theres no 3D Auto like you would see when your watching a movie. When I had my samsung plasma these 3D games worked without a problem.

I got the advanced setting by setting the pc to 1080x720 which is an official 3D resolution or something. It's a little fuzzy but much better than 1800x1980 or whatever at 30hz. which was the only other 3D alternative... The only thing is it still doesn't seem much smoother with post processing. My ps3 and netflix apps work much better than the PC. I like to use it for games but who knows maybe it's just my limited DVI/HDMI cord...

Hi there, new to this site and love the amount of info here.
I have a question and not sure if it's been asked: is it worth it to pay $250-$500 more for the KD than the KDE?
I think I understand the technical differences between the two sets.

thanks.

I think it is worth it if you can afford it, why nit get the bonus features for $200-500 more. If you dont you may regret it. But if you are saving money you will still be pleased with the cheaper set.

I purchased the M3D550KDE, and the picture looks like it has "Smooth Motion" turned on, but this model doesn't have the Smooth Motion feature. I called Vizio and they want a thirty second video of the TV, I think its absurd. Anybody have any suggestions before I return it to Costco:mad:

I actually didn't get the M3D550KDE cause it didn't have smooth motion. I kinda like the smooth motion. Thought I didn't but watched the into o Alien and when the ship is panning across the screen and the camera is scanning through the empty ship, you see a huge difference in picture quality. It does make it look less like film but I think I like the more real look vs film look. I can't wait to see how The Hobbit will look 48fps vs 24fps. Everything has increased except the 24fps in film it's time we advance this and I welcome The Hobbit with open eyes!

That said I would return the set if you do not like the way it looks, you will be looking at it daily and it will begin to bug you more and more the longer you keep it however check all your setting to make sure you have the smooth motion turned off, all modern sets have the option to do so to avoid the soap opera effect.

I bought the m3d550kd originally from Costco. It was the display model since they where sold out,for $899, and the guy gave me 4 more 3d lg glasses. I Was happy. Keep in mind ive been on a led war mission for quite some time for my man cave. I have bought and returned multiple leds.... Samsung's 7, 8 series from best buy and Costco. They of course they have great pictures and options, but backlight bleeding was unacceptable for the price. Took everyone back. Lg. Sony. Took back. ............okay back to the vizio. It seems that no matter how much you spend it's not a perfected technology (ps I have 3 other led's with no issues) it is a "pig in a poke." I think their getting cheaper quality so people can afford them. So I said screw it ill get a vizio. My friends have them and they look great for much cheaper. With cheaper price comes lower quality in one way or another, I'm prepared to deal with it. Adjusted the settings on this vizio to my liking, and all in all I'm happy with it. Software is clunky, no biggie. YouTube crashes after 3 videos, no biggie. All the minor stuff I can live with. 3d is great. No lag on any ps3 games I have. Talked to a lg rep at best buy, while browsing for other stuff and I asked her if vizio had lg screens, she said the 3d vizio are 90 percent lg screens. She wasnt trying to sell me anything. Take that how ever you want to......

Well the vizio has blooming in corners and I have dimming off because I like a brighter image. But I was still unhappy (I have ocd) so I took it back to Costco and returned it. Told them the bleeding and blooming issues along with the crashing of apps. And they returned no question asked as usual. Now here is the GOOD part.

My wife and I returned to Costco to Christmas shop. I am looking in the electronic section, as all men do, and what do I see? It's my old vizio up on the shelf maked for 749.99. So I nonchalantly said ill buy it and deal with vizio to repair or deal with it. The electronic section employee said it was the last one? I just smiled and nodded. Paid and left. Got it home and turn old Betsy on. All my settings are the same and no default/reset was done..... makes question Costco. ...but hey I came out on top.

P.s. I contacted vizio to test their waters. This company is a joke lol. If it wasn't for Costco concierge I would have hung myself. They wanted pictures, i sent pics. They said not good enough, I sent exactly what they asked for, they found a way to say they wanted more pics to determine anything. .......waiting on phone call. I'm just tested vizio, because I can live with faulty issues for $750. To all others who have serious issues with their KD vizio. Be ready to defend yourself against every response vizio has in the book to avoid doing anything about it. Dont take my words lightly all I have to do is adjust my tv to get the blooming to reside. You may not be so lucky. Its nice but vizio has a lot of duds after about 2 years. BUY THE SQUARE TRADE IF YOU BOUGHT FROM COSTCO. OR WHERE EVER YOU BUY. THEY ARE THE ESCORT OF TVS. NOT WORTH CRAP AFTER 100, 000 MILES

Keep in mind that Vizio is more of a marketing company than a real tv mfr (R&D, etc). That's why they are considered by some to be a "throw-away" tv due to consistent quality issues and laughable customer support. I won a Vizio in a raffle last year and immediately donated it, unopened, to our local Women's Shelter. It failed after about 4 months, Vizio couldn't fix it, and wouldn't replace it because they didn't have the receipt even though it was a donated item. I felt really bad. Some people love their sets and I'm happy for them, but....

Can you confirm what the box or manual for the KD said? Was it 240hz or 240hz sps? I just picked up the KDE and the box clearly says 120hz sps. But it has no smooth motion feature, so it doesn't help make it any clearer.

Thanks

For those loving their KD's and wondering about the story on the KDE's, I chatted with Vizio support today to clarify the actual refresh rate of the respective displays. It looks like both displays are native 120 Hz whereas the the KD has the upgraded Smooth Motion Feature which allows you to enable/disable their SPS (Scenes Per Second) technology which is their scanning backlight effect to emulate 240 Hz.
I have the Smooth Motion disabled anyway. I've always considered the additional features to be more of a liability than a help to picture quality because of reliance on the processor to do the job. 120 Hz is divisible by 24 fps and 30 fps, so I'm a happy guy.
Just thought you'd like to have this documented.

Thanks. So despite what the customer service rep stated, I have to believe that if the KDE box is labeled 120Hz SPS, then its really a 60Hz refresh rate. Is there any other way to confirm this?

60Hz x2 = 120Hz. Each frame shown twice to reduce motion blur etc. Some sets allow you to adjust that for the SOE (Soap Opera Effect). Basically it's all marketing with no real standards in place.

yes research and development is definitely lacking or not exist at Vizio. Customer service a joke. I do wish the people at the women shelter had a TV that last little bit longer...... but I do commend you on giving them a gift. I donate all my old cell phones to battered women that do not have cell phones.

This thread is going to become for the KDE series..... seeing that the KD that started this thread is no longer available...... whether it's on backorder from an online store .........but it's a non existence and almost all retail stores in my area so people are going to be coming here to look for reviews, Calibration settings or adjustments for the TV. The difference is as stated many times, bluetooth remote and the refresh rate being quoted at 240 Hertz now being quoted at 120 Hertz with no smooth motion. All marketing hype.... have the hight stats and they think we will buy their tv over others...... but believe me folks smooth motion it's not all it's cracked up to be. I hardly ever watch stuff on that high of a refresh rate....I purchased the 3d TV because the processor helps the quality of the HD content whether by Blu ray or a cable connection, or game play. it's definitely the most bang for your buck that you will get from an LED TV. I hope all of you have luck with yours and I'll continue to check the street from time to time to see if maybe I can help along I will get an update on how Vizio response to my request for repair so you guys have an idea of what you may go through. hopefully not hopefully they last 10 years

Right, but given the choice I'd rather have a set that has a true hardware refresh rate of 120Hz rather than 60Hz with some software processing applied over it to 'simulate' the same thing. Just can't figure out what the true hardware refresh rate for the KDE is. On the box is says 120Hz SPS, on their web site in the description they use '120Hz effective refresh rate' and in the online spec section it simply says 120Hz. Need to speak with someone directly at Vizio to get the truth.

Good luck with vizio......they are going to repeat what you have just researched and wing it from there. They are limited in common knowledge of their own product. I'm interested in what they say for sure.
