I am about 89 percent sure I will get a Panasonic St50 plasma. If I decide to go with LCD what brand is comparable to this tv in price and quality? Looking at 50 incher.

The 55HX8500 is $2.500, the 55ST50 $1.500 so there is a $1.000 price difference. The HX8500 is a Edge Lit, if you want plasma kind of blacks you should go Local Dimming $$$$. Best TV first half 2012 is the VT50, one could wait till the price drops

LEDs compared: Local Dimming, Edge Lit

The Samsung 55EH6000 or EH5000 TVs are FULL array LED back lighted TVs and have gotten very good/mixed reviews. The key is to get any TV from a store that handles and stores them properly. Much of the flashlighting issues for instance can be attributed to the TV not being stored upright or manhandled. Anyway, the EH5000/EH6000 are pretty impressive for their price range and I was impressed in store viewing.

At least something to consider. Good, basic TVs with a potential for excellent picture quality. Buy a Blu-ray or streaming box for your web interests. Upgrade is cheaper by doing so and usually more feature rich than having apps on a TV.

Samsung does not make Full Array LEDs anymore, last one was the 2009 B8500.

I thought so too. . . guess what? Actually they ARE back lighted Full Array LED. Apologies accepted.

The updated information on the EH4000/EH5300/ EH5000/EH6000 state they an entry level Full Array LED TV with minimum features but very good picture quality. Samsung apparently is doing this as a way to move away from CCFL LCD panels. They essentially took CCFL models and converted them to a limited Full array LED back light system. I looked at several of these in stores and they look pretty darn good. . . and
use a limited number of LEDs , but are impressive non the less. Especially for the $$$.

Here's a link to CNET 2012 TV models. Check the Samsung tables on the chart.

Yes, it was for me also. There is a thread here started on the EH6000/EH5000. Kind of mixed reviews, but the ones I saw in the 47" size for UNDER 1K made me want to try one just to play with.

Unfortunately, the number of LEDs is limited... so uniformity is still not ideal, though it is a significant improvement over the ES models (edge-lit LED).

FWIW, this is definitely a step in the right direction for Samsung. Hopefully, they can lose the 'title' of least uniform LED-LCD screens in time.

Isn't the eh5000 only 60hz compared to 120hz on the eh6000?

I wasn't talking about refresh rates.
