Is the Samsung UE46ES8000 worth the extra money compared to the UE46ES7000? The only difference I can see is different micro dimming. Is that feature worth the £180 difference? Are they identical other than that feature (and different stand)?

Thanks smile.gif

The 8000 has hardware based micro-dimming (last years model only), as opposed to the software based implementation used this year. Black level is improved vs the 7000 but your viewing environment may negate any advantages gained in that area.

The bezel on the 8000 is slightly smaller than the 7000 (clear plastic bezel on 7000, slightly thinner metal bezel on 8000).

Whether these differences are worth the extra to you are a personal choice. I chose the 8000 for the improved micro-dimming and thinner bezel ( I know some prefer the 7000 bezel), both are fantastic sets (especially if you realize the limits of edge lit LCD's).

Edit: sorry, just noticed that you referenced the UE version not the UN model. European version 8000 did not feature the hardware based micro dimming.

Another question.. Does it come with integrated wifi or do you have to buy a separate adapter & if so, can you use regular wifi dongles, etc?

That was last years d8000, this years es8000/es7000 there is virtually no difference. Neither tv has hardware dimming, it's all software micro dimming pro vs micro dimming Ultimate.

Perhaps dumb ? but are you suggesting a d8000 is equivalent to the 2012 es8000, thx!

p.s. am upgrading from a 10 year old rear projection Toshiba HDTV so major improvement either way, just wondering if I should save a few bucks by getting last year's model
