When is Sony HX950 release date?

I am replacing my Sony XBR4. Currently I have a choice of the HX929 or HX850. The HX850 is cheaper and seems to have better specs.

There is no such set.
If there ever is one, it would probably be released around March of 2013.

Are you certain there is no updated XBR from Sony? As this one is outdated and the HX850 is a better set.

How is the HX850 a better set? It has the same X-Reality processor and same Motionflow "rating" as the 929, but it's still an edge-lit set with pseudo local dimming. The HX929 is the real deal and has a full-array LED backlight with real local dimming.

I own a XBR5 and XBR8, the XBR HX929/ HX850 is definitely a improvement when compared to the XBR4. Keep in mind that the XBR HX929 is a Local Dimming LED and the HX850 is a Edge Lit (with Local Dimming) LED.
http://reviews.cnet.com/2795-6482_7-399.html

Two of AVS finest, ChadB and DNice, chose the XBR HX929 over the Sharp Elite Pro, here is ChadB's review.
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1318875/official-sony-hx929-owners-thread-46hx929-55hx929-65hx929-no-price-talk/1890#post_20509361

The Samsung and LG OLEd's will be in the store before the end of the year, also expect the succesor of the Sharp Elite Pro (best LCd on the market). The XBR HX955, or whatever the name will be, will hit the market this time next year, maybe sooner. So lots of exciting stuff is going on, if possible wait a year.

Thank you 8mile13! The link cleared up a few things.
I personally want to stick with Sony. Every TV I've had was a Sony and I've never had a problem.
I can't wait a year, I need something within the next 30-60 days.

All i can say is that i went from the CCFL 40XBR5 to the Local Dimming LED 46XBR8 and was very happy with impovement eventhough XBR8 has off-axis PQ degredation and blooming - worse than the XBR HX929, also XBR HX929 has better blacks - . I see no need to upgrade yet, wait for OLED/ or KUROesk Plasma.

What do you think of the 55'' HX850?
I could get a good price on that set.

If i wanted a 2012 Edge Lit this would be the most important candidate, for shure. Important is wether or not you like it. Make shure you can return it in case you do not like it.

I don't see what's so bad with Edge lit.
Only thing I didnt like with the HX850 is the Sony logo is not lit! that's a big let down. My first Sony TV with out the Sony illuminated.

the XBR HX929 is sony's 2011 and 2012 top of the line (full array Local Dimming LED LCd), in fact at the VA Shootout Sony was not present because they wanted that the XBR HX929 participated (again!). I am pretty shure that there will be no new Sony top of the line this year ( the (XBR) HX955 is supposed to be the next Sony top of the line full array Local Dimming LED).

There was just one HX955 link i found on the net, in that same link the guy also claimed that the Sony CLED (Crystal LED) would be for sale in 2013 <- CLED is still in experimental fase so such a claim is nonsense. If the HX955/950 can be bought in stores within a few months from now there would be a lot of links and previews by now, please tell me where you got that information and show me some links.

I am attaching a picture from an official Sony Catalog (Turkish). It says "coming" for HX950. In the catalog it says "new intelligent peak led". So I guess the backlit system will be improved. Anyone else knows any news???

Hi everyone, was chatting to a Sony Rep today and was told that the HX953 is due to be released towards the end of this year and will be the replacement for the HX923.
I asked the Sony Rep whether or not this is official as there is no info on the web and he said that it is.

This quote was originally in the review for the 46HX853 but it has since been removed, I assume at Sonys request.

thanks. The HX950 is a Edge Lit Local Dimming. My posts where about the successor of the full array Local Dimming XBR HX929. The HX955 which i was talking about is supposed to be the successor of the HX929. The threadstarted probably meant the Edge Lit HX950.

This is a german Forum, in a different country name would be different. We probably see this model next year and it might be 4K.

The HX955 is the German version of the US HX950 and the UK HX953. For example the US - HX850, the UK - HX853 and the German - HX855 are the same TV

I think the description in one of those shopping links is wrong it say's Intelligent Edge Led but I think it should be New Intelligent Peak Led. As in the same drive system in the HX929 but a newer version.

I've edited the Sony catalog picture in my earlier post as the original was far too small, it should be the right size now.

Nope, I thought the HX950 was the new version of the HX929 which was full lit display. If it's Edge that is coming out soon, screw it i'll stick with the HX850

Intelligent Edge Led, Local Dimming might be right, it simply means its an Edge Lit Local Dimming, new intelligent peak led is probably meant to discribe something else.

That's a good link, I hadn't seen that one. It clearly outlines the differences between the models with the HX950 having New intelligent Peak LED which is a newer version of last years HX929 Intelligent Peak LED. I think it will definitely be a full array LED backlit set.

Still nothing firm on the next XBR (dates, price, specs etc...) but I will say this; Every retailer I've talked to are dumping their HX929 stocks like it's going out of fashion. Locally for me there are no 65HX929s anymore, only one or two display units that are being cleared out. The SKU is officially discontinued in Sony's internal system from talking to reps at my two local Sony Stores and one rep, when pressed for more info, told me to hold off buying till August. Take it with a grain of salt but we might see it pop up next month. Of course that doesn't help you as you need it right away.

The Sony RDR-HX950 is indeed a dvd recorder. You, however, should have gathered that the HX950 being referred to here is the purported model replacement number for the HX929 Television.
