Panasonic 65VT50 is the best TV under $3500. But you're wanting an LCD so best is a moot point. biggrin.gif

Those are all old and/or discontinued models. I have seen the 65" LG and it looked bad, it had poor uniformity and very visible vertical banding. The Samsung UN65C8000 is a 2010 model, which was rife with QC issues and poor performance; it was replaced by the 2011 UN65D8000, which was not much better. The new replacement is suposed to the UN65ES8000, which is not out yet. I have only seen the Sony in a 55" and I'd wager the 65" version would offer better performance than those other two, but it's still only edge-lit.

As LCD sets get bigger it is much harder to achieve backlight uniformity, especially when they are only using an edge-lit backlight (nothing behind the LCD panel). The models you listed are all edge-lit and those types of sets are notorious from suffering from spotty uniformity, especially during dark or mixed-contrast content. You can spend $3500 on an LCD, or you can spend $1000 less and get better performance for a plasma, like the Panasonic TC-P65ST50. Get the VT50 if you want to go whole hog. Since plasmas are self-illuminating you don't have to worry about backlight distribution. The 2012 Panasonics also feature an excellent filter on the screen that rejects ambient light and works very well in bright rooms (in fact, they even have less glare than some LCDs).

if you really, truly, are stuck on LCD, I'd seek out a 70" Sharp from last year, since they all use a full-array LED backlight placed behind the panel. The LE735 was their best model last year and is still floating around online for well within your budget.

I would be fine with going with a Plasma TV if that was the best option. I will take a good hard look at the Panasonic VT50 as the reviews look very good. If anyone has additional TV recommendations, let me know. Thanks

well you don't say what you'd use it for. If 3D is in the mix then you may have to return to LCD's.. Passive LCD, for the money, strictly in my view (don't want to start any flame wars here) trumps everything else out there right now. So my suggestion would be the LG 65LM6200 if 3D would be something you watch frequently.

If you do, it would anyway benefit you to visit a store and compare the active vs passive implementation of 3D.. judging by your original list, I'd say it's been a while you stepped out to watch TV's in person wink.gif

Insert pithy comment here

Out of those, I would take the 65" LG.
