I watched a video on youtube showing how you can use an external hard drive on your tv and play movies from it. The person used a Samsung and said you should look for a usb port that is labeled HDD (that means it has enough power to run the external hard drive).

I looked on the back of the tv and the usb ports didn't list HDD on it. I called sharp and they said they don't recommend using an external hard drive on the tv and just flash drives.

Does anyone know if I can use an external "my passport" hard drive on the tv? Will it damage the tv?

Thanks,

Dan

It won't damage the TV at all. Worst case scenario is that the hard drive wont power up.

How do I know if it will power up or not? I don't know of anyone that owns one to try it out. Is there something in the manual that states the power output on the usb compared to the power required for the external hard drive?

I mean, this is a brand new tv and they can't think of adding that but Samsung's of 2-3 years ago already have it?
