XBR 65HX950 Will Not Power Up - Red LED blinks 9 times

I've had an issue with my XBR power down and up nearly instantaneously for a while. Screen went blank then came back on right away. Now, it starts up, stays on for 30 seconds, and then powers down and the red LED blinks 9 times. Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks.

Don't have the 950 manual, but 929 only has 7 and 10 blink error codes. Are you sure you're seeing 9 blinks?

The 2015 model 55EG9600 is already available. Which model are you referring to and what is it about it that has you salivating? (Surely it's not that silly curved screen?)

My 55HX929 is still going strong; unless it craps out I would be hard-pressed to rationalize replacing it. And it appears that Sony won't be offering FALD in its new line-up on anything under 75".

I'm aware of the mdl referenced as I've been at every shootout in the last 7 yrs but Robert indicated they are going to release a FLAT panel. My personal opinion of the G9600 is that it's an amazing panel and the only panel that surpasses the 929's PQ, it's just that damn curved screen that I perceive a distortion when viewed from the side.

So is there a specific model you were referencing or are you just anticipating a future modification to the G9600? Do you have any inside dope from the shootout that you can share?

Does anyone know if the US model is dual voltage? (120-240V)? I could've sworn I saw proof of this about a year ago--now that I'm about to plug it in I want to be extra sure and can't find evidence one way or another.

I assume you are referring the HX950. According to the user's manual, p. 35 (see attached), the U.S.A./Canada model is 120 V AC, 60 Hz only.

But if you have the set in your possession, you need only look at the specs on the label in the back next to the power outlet.

Yep, when I got home I took it out of the packaging and saw that it supports 120-240, though it's only rated in the US for 120.

Enabling automatic on when power is plugged in

Has anyone tried enabling "automatic on" on their 950?

I want the TV to start whenever it is powered, and I just want it to start like when I press the start button on the remote. Meaning just start on HDMI 1 selected with my normal settings enabled.

I tried looking in the menu system and I found:
System settings -> auto start

However when I try to enable this it looks like it wants to reset my TV to factory settings. It ask for Language, Home/demo mode, speaker settings etc.

WTF

I haven't dared to run the settings to an end as I do not wish for my TV to be reset. Can anyone explain this behaviour?

I spoke with Robert and a few of his calibrator's and they are excited with the results of this years contestants. I'm waiting to hear back from Robert re: the release of LG's fully flat OLED displays.

I have come across one of these second hand. Did the 55" have the vertical band/crease issue in the centre? Or was that just the 65" panels?

It looks like the HX929 and HX950 will be the last decent 1080p sets from Sony, all efforts are on 4k now.

My 55HX950 has developed the Horizontal Line issue. I saw a few pages back that Sony was offering the extended warranty for these. I'm curious if anyone has any ideas of what they are offering to replace these TV's? I also have the extended warranty from where New Orleans Audio/Video where I purchased it. I'll probably call them first and see what they say since I think its still warrantied with them. I purchased in November 2012, so its 2.5 years old.

Sony's last decent set besides the XBR8,929,950 was and still is 2013/14 55W900A. Since then their 1080p sets are below average in my opinion.

Settings for Sony's XBR ~ 46/55/65 929 series, and the new XBR ~ 950 series also.
Settings are for 2D and are based on my personal preferences.

These settings do NOT require access to Mfg Svc menu.

It is critical to apply EXACTLY as listed for full effect !
After applying these settings allow yourself a little time, ( a few days to a week), to acclimate and get used to them, they may appear dark at first but you will get used to them.

**Every panel is different, and may require minor individual corrections to satisfy your personal satisfactions.

Please do let me know your results, thx.

I don't know it's effect on the 850 series, it doesn't hurt to try. you can always go back to default settings.

What is your definition of forever? Usually 15 or so seconds maybe for it to be fully responsive in terms of changing inputs and whatnot. I'd have to time it next power up.
