Okay, so I just got the E701-A3 at Costco, and its great except that it keeps doing the off/on thing (turning off randomly). It's not clear if it's actually rebooting, as the power cycle it fairly quick. I also have an older 32" Vizio, and it never does this. I'm hoping its just a matter of time before Vizio sends the proper firmware updates over the wire to get it functioning properly, but not sure how long this might take. Got a Blu-ray player and xbox 360 hooked up to it, and seems more reliable to use the xbox for apps, for example Netflix, as when the TV cycles power I don't lose my entire context. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? I will likely be contacting Costco or Vizio soon. Not sure a new set would make any difference, unless it's an issue with the power supply or related part of the board.

Try the owners thread..

Also, MODS PLEASE MERGE THESE 70" VIZIO THREADS OR CLOSE THIS ONE. The set is no longer anticipated. It's here.

Stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder.

Presently 6:45 p.m. pacific Monday cyber Monday November 26, 2012 at Aurora Costco in north Seattle. Five in stock plus One display at black Friday price for the remainder of this evening.

Good looking set. An occassional minor halo that can probAbly be corrected via Adjustment. Football scenes look decent. Better than the competigion.

Bought the Visio E701 at Sam's yesterday. Easy setup, nice crisp picture but TERRIBLE sound, reminds me of a $2.99 Japanese transistor radio. Sound is distorted, slurred and barely understandable. I will purchase external speakers to see if there is an improvement. It can't get any worse!

I'm sure that your statement was meant as hyperbole.rolleyes.gif The sound is rather good from on-board speakers and the picture is the best I've ever seen, when you consider that my wife and I have just upgraded from a 2001 Sony 56" HDTV.

Our 70" Vizio looks beautiful right out of the box. Skin tones are perfect. Black and white DVD's ["The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946)] and Lana Turner never looked more beautiful! Stark blacks with great shadow definition.

Mounted the Vizio, slightly off-center on a 16' wall [soft, muted sun exposure from north facing windows]. The bottom of the Vizio screen is 44" off the floor and the 70" screen is 17' from the viewer. Hooked it up to our H/K 1650 a/v receiver w/Onkyo 5.1 surround sound speakers.

Put the "Oblivion" DVD into our Samsung BD-F5900 and just relaxed. Then we tried "Red Tails". Both great movies to show off new equipment.

Special thanks go to COSTCO, as always, from a grateful member of 27 years!

Alain

I have the VIZIO E701i-A3 70-inch with built in Netflix app. When I'm watching netflix, it doesn't play through my surround sound. Is there any way around this?

Is the early-2013 chip recall problem definitely gone for the 70" model ??

I am considering this model, but I remember that Vizio used to have quality control problems on her larger TV's (small ones got rave reviews). Not sure that is still correct. It's for our Condo Clubhouse, and I'm getting some static from other Vizio owners who heard of the large-TV problems from years back, even though they for the most part like their 42" and smaller models.

I thought there was a defective chip that certain models got that was causing a problem with the picture being on but a black screen (similar I guess to the old Philips 'Black Screen Of Death' biggrin.gif ). I believe it was on Amazon or CNET or somewhere but I know I read it.

The response time for this TV is 6 ms.....what are some of the best LED/LCDs down to ?

My 2006 model Philips plasma TV's I believe are at 4 ms, I would guess newer plasmas are even faster, no ???

Phil,

Here is one of the links that I believe refers to your "chip" concerns:

http://hdguru.com/vizio-issues-a-recall-on-large-screen-led-lcd-hdtvs/

Note that the "chip" problem is specific to those Vizio's that were sold in the last quarter of 2012...that being October, November and December of 2012.

"Our research indicates the Vizios with the bad chip assembly were made and offered for sale in the 4th quarter of 2012. We checked our local Costco and verified all the E601i-A3 and E701i-A3 now being sold are new production, past the serial numbers of the recalled models." The 70" Vizio we bought in early September is much different and far exceeds the numbers listed on this above website.

Phanatic,
How's it going, my Philips 50" plasma is now in the basement replaced by the Vizio E701I. It was a video processor chip on the late 2012 build versions, the newer ones are ok. If you're looking, why not check out the M series M701D, itKs 240hz, great pq, smart apps, & 3D which initially I wasn't big on but now that I also have a M551D Vizio with the same features, I like.

Hi indept.....my Condo Clubhouse likes this model since it fits our budget....I take it the "M" series is a higher-end Vizio model ? Any real tangible benefits aside from 240 ghtz ?

Our TV will be wall mounted and we'll be watching from 8-15' away so while perfect PQ is nice, it's not essential. We have a 42" Toshiba up there right now and the main imperative is just getting a bigger TV.

As I mentioned before, M has 3D which at first for me wasn't that big but turns out it's pretty cool. My E701 is great though. I think you'll be happy with either.

Well it's too late now but I saw that Walmart advertised that if you were in the stroe at the time of the special that they guaranteed you would get whatever it was they were selling but I guess you had to corner them on it at the time. Maybe that TV wasn't part of the guarantee????

here's a quote:

One of Walmart’s holiday hooks is its 1-Hour In Stock Guarantee, which features 21 top-selling items they promise will be available during a one-hour period. Items range from 60-inch HDTVs and iPad minis to popular video games and a stroller/car seat combo. Select items are either deeply discounted or on special buy savings. To secure a wristband, which will guarantee the customer either gets the wanted item before leaving the store or gets a guarantee that it will arrive by delivery to their home before Christmas, shoppers need to go to the designated line within the store prior to the 6 and 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day sale events.

How are you guys hanging your 70 Vizio's on the wall? The screws that are supposed to hold this thing on the mount look super small.

My wall mount came with longer screws that worked. The screws are to long but some little black spacers came with the screws so I used that. The short ones will work for the bottom but u have to use longer ones for the top. Good luck.

There was a commercial that said they will be giving out wrist bands 2hrs before the item went on sale. I went to Walmart at 1pm didn't even get to enjoy thanksgiving but I got the TV :-)Also with the one hour guarantee the ad paper showed on the front that the items highlighted in yellow/orange throughout the paper were the one hour guarantee items.
