So I was in Sam's club the other day and they had a 55" LG 120hz Tru-Motion TV set up. They were playing the Cars 2 DVD in it and it looked sick! It looked so good that it almost looked fake. The picture looked 3D almost. Very hard to explain. I do not know what model number it was but it was amazing looking, although my wife disagreed and thought a more natural TV looked better. Weird!
I wanted an affordable 3D TV as that was the only way I was going to get one. If I could find something cheap enough otherwise I was not really in a need for a new TV.
When I saw that the 47" was available for $550 I jumped on it. I was even more excited thinking the picture was going to look like this 55" TV I saw since they listed mostly the same specs. I did not really know what the soap opera effect meant or what tru-motion even was. It was after reading through this thread that I started to understand it and doing more research on it.
My TV shipped out today so I should have it this week. I have faced the facts it will not have that cool soap opera effect which I was really excited to get, but then I put things into perspective. I am getting a 47" LED 3D TV for $550. What would really be my other option at this price point. So my choice is this TV or no TV. I wouldn't even expect a TV at this price to look anywhere near what I saw.
I think the thing that is the most fustrating about this is that LG advertises it as though it would look like the TV that I saw. If an LG TV is 120hz and has tru-motion then one would think it would have the same type of look on all it's models with this feature. Instead what it sounds like from reading through this thread is that LG really is misleading the public with this TV. They need to sell it for what it is. A 60hz TV with no true-motion. I am sure plenty of us would still buy it but those that can afford to dish out some more money to really get a TV with 120hz and tru-motion then at least they would know what they are getting.
I am excited to receive my TV but I am fustrated to see that I was lied to about my purchase. I was expecting one thing and will technically be receiving something else. I wish we were able to get enough people to overload their FB page and twitter accounts with this complaint. Nothing usually happens unless it is done by the masses.
Update: So as per the link below and this might have been mentioned earlier in thread here is a great article of another LG TV with the same tru-motion issue we have except they were able to actually get LG to upgrade the software!
