Mine lives on my wired network and any firmware updates are infrequent have not made much difference to me. Check with Vizio or their website to see what's current. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

optimal settings

picked up a used set off craigslist just in time for kickoff for this season NFL had it a few weeks now and found settings I like and wanted to share. This is a rough initial adjustment but it's beautiful. no banding or blurry footballs. used a blue filter to bring color up to par, again, no fine tuning in color temp) picture is very decent head on from several feet out (which is exactly where I am and for $500, I'm thrilled lol) side viewing leaves some to be desired ...

i've not connected it wirelessly nor hard wired and have no intention of doing so. I use my apps right through xbox.

remember to write down your own settings before trying these. or snap a pic with yer smart phone youngin'

anywho..

picture mode: custom
backlight 3 (or 2 or 4 or 5, very sensitive but I like 3)
brightness 52
contrast 66
color 77
tint 0
sharpness 11

color temp:
custom - all at 50 (can fine tune color further here later if I care to or am extremely bored lol)

advanced picture:
all - OFF

I'm too frugal to have paid retail for the set. I considered the new e models but they are like $1000. Saw this one 20 mins away on cl and paid $500. It's worth about that imo. In the light my bezel is scratched up too so maybe its not even worth the five? Until I turn on a game in 65" hdtv 10p beauty aaahhhahahahhahaha

went up from a 42" panny plasma 1080i/720p monitor via component to new to me m650vse direct from cable optical audio out to receiver. kids love fps on xbox 360 and have no lag.

Power Supply?

Like many, I bought this TV on a BF promo in 2012 and have been happy with it. Until now.

Despite not being a daily viewer (it could go a week or more between uses), it has begun to have weird power issues, such as powering up the logo super bright overnight, blanking out when on (again lighting up the logo super bright) and dropping out to blank.

I opened a case with Vizio support and although we did a reset and they say they pushed a firmware update, the version didn't change and the problem wasn't corrected.

They and I suspect a power supply board and there are lots of those (pulls, I imagine) for sale on eBay, etc. The boards are in the $60-$80 range (more if in a "repair kit"), so I'm suspecting this is a common problem.

My plan is to try to fix the Vizio with that board and then sell it on Craigs List.

Four years is too soon for a lightly used $1,000 TV to die in my book. The Philips LCD TV I sold a friend of mine is running fine after 10 years (OG Philips, not Funai).

What do you think?

Ive had mine also since bf 2012 no issues.
I think less than 1% of tvs fail on average. This might be that case. Warranty period is up i assume. Did u purchase on a Amex card? that always extends warranty to 2 years on all electronics. Is it to late to add a square trade warranty then claim it? With the super drop in prices on tvs now could be a good time to upgrade to a cheap 4k. I ve seen them sub 800 bucks for 4k. at 55inchers. But a better 1080p 60" new now adays is easyly found used for way under $500 or even new on bf 2016 if u can hold out. Just chiming in my thoughts!

Thanks, Brian. I bought it with an Amex but the warranty is long gone.

Let's see if the board brings it back to life. Either way, I've bought an 65" 4K on a Super Bowl special and the question is how much I can resell the Vizio for to recoup that $1000 new cost.

I still have a Vizio E-series in the bedroom which I use even less, so maybe it will outlast the old Vizio and the new LG. Still, I had Emerson CRT TV's that out lasted the M650VSE.

Mine developed green lines down the right side after about two years of use. Then the P series I replaced it with died to a black screen in less than a week. Other than my E3D470 from four years ago tha I use sparingly I haven't had the best luck with Vizio lately.

NoGo

The replacement power supply board didn't fix it. So, unless someone wants to pick it up for parts here in Chicago by sometime this Saturday, it will be hauled away for recycling when its non-Vizio replacement arrives. There are three-board repair kits out there for about $100 but I'm done with it.
