Hi All,

I am contemplating of getting a new LED this holiday season. After some research, I have pretty much zero it down to Samsung. So far, these are the models I am considering:

  • UN55ES6500
  • UN55ES6100
  • UN55EH6000

Given the above choices, I would like to get some feedback on which one to go after. Samung UN55ES6500 is $100 cheaper than UN55ES6100... why?. I am a bit concern about the 3D technology as I have heard people saying 3D machines don't last as long as the full 2D. As with UN55EH6000, it about $400 cheaper.

If there are other brand/models that would give me better values, please let me know. I welcome any suggestions and comments.

Thanks in advance.

Any reason you are looking at only Samsung? LG has a good option in that price range, 55LM7600. ES6500 is comparable but not the other two.

3D, as I see, is mainly for kids / guests. Or may be for some Blu-Rays that are authored properly like Avatar 3D, which looks fantastic on LG. I am sure Samsung would be good as well (I had a top end Samsung plasma and was pleased with the quality) but passive 3D makes a 2-hr long movie watchable. The reason I'd suggest going for a 3D TV is that these also have excellent 2D picture, usually better than the pure 2D models.

There are tons of calibration settings on LG, I especially like the RGB filters. The light bleeding could be an issue for some sets and you may have to exchange a few times. I'll decide whether to exchange after the calibration. Some smart apps are not bad, the remote is also useful for apps though needs a day or 2 to get used to it.

The only reason I'd look at ES6500 is for the 60" option though the price is too high at present and LG 60LM7200 is possibly a better buy.

The ES6500 normally sells for 2099, the 6100 for 1899. It's not uncommon for retailers to discount higher end models more than lower end ones so it's entirely possible you've found a retailer selling 6500s for a little less than 6100s. The 6500 has 3D the 6100 doesn't (at least not in the US) and is meant to sell at a higher price. The EH6000 is a stripped down entry level set with decent pq but without a lot of bells/whistles. It's connectivity is a bit lacking having only 2 HDMI inputs.

The idea that 3D sets don't last as long as 2D sets is pure fantasy.

I'd also suggest forgoing the Samsung Kool-Aid and cosidering LG or Sharp.

Hi Steve and Rexian99,

Thanks for the input. Here's the price from Amazon:

UN55ES6500 ~$1400
UN55ES6100 ~$1500
55LM7600 ~$1600

I will definitely look into LG and Sharp. I am trying to get something below the $1500 mark.
