Right now I'm leaning towards a Panasonic but can be totally convinced one way or the other. We've got a fairly large area above the fireplace at our new house, I'll have to get a new set quickly after moving in. My 55 inch VT50 is going upstairs to the theater room. If I go 50 I'll probably get a plasma.

The fireplace doesn't get much, but it may occasionally be used so having something like an LCD set that runs a bit cooler is probably a good idea. PQ is important but I'm not expecting knockout PQ. Would like to spend 1k or LESS, prefer to be around 750 or less considering this will be used for news, sitcoms and only sports on occasion when I'm cooking or something and won't be in the theater room.

120hz is a must, prefer 240...decent aesthetics would be a plus considering where its going and the quality of the rest of the house.

Ill recommend the TCL 48" LED backlight F3300 at Sam's for $450. It has a nice panel with good blacks. Is ultra cheap for the size so you can abuse it with heat, soot, and smoke from the fireplace without worry.

Panasonic AX-200u / Optoma Graywolf 92" / Draper Luma 92"
Samsung 51F8500 Plasma / Vizio M422i LCD / Vizio GV42LF LCD / Vizio VP322 Plasma
Sony S790 BD / Panasonic BDT220 BD / Roku 2 XS & HD-XR / PlayStation 3
Oppo 983H Anchor Bay VRS / Denon 2930CI Silicon Optix Reon / Panasonic S97 Faroudja Genesis / Oppo 970HD Mediatek
Panasonic LX-900 Laserdisc / Aiwa MX100 Multi-region VCR / JVC S7600 S-VHS

I was thinking about the E50 actually...

Also the Sony EX640 or HX750 if I could find a good deal.

LG seems to have several in the sub 1k range...

I will also look at that TCL next time I'm at Sams. The fireplace won't get that much use. We've used the one at our current house twice in four years.
