I figured since this new set was making its way to shelves, it was time to have an official place to trade pic settings and discuss this set. Just picked it up, enjoying the picture. Great screen uniformity, no clouding, and fairly nice blacks.
Looks like another 3D channel coming soon and the big box stores are restocking 3D TV's again. I saw a 65" (brand?) at Costco yesterday as I was rushing by for almost $2600. Still love my cheap 651 though.

Yes, I'm pretty happy with my 651 as well (and really like the price). In fact, I really do think my pic quality has improved in the last couple of months. I know the LEDs aren't supposed to have a breakin period, but it sure seems like at around the 4 - 6 month mark my pic quality improved.
I've had my M3D651SV for about 6 months now and I've been loving it. Last week (IIRC) I received a notification upon turning the TV on that the firmware had been updated, and I'm now at 3.18.2.1164.
Ever since the update (unless it was just a coincidence), I've been having strange issues with the TV. I have my HTPC and several consoles hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-33 receiver, which then goes to my TV. Sometimes when watching movies or TV in fullscreen through media center, the right half of the TV will be a solid pink block while the other half has colors inverted. This only happens in full screen. Flipping Game Mode off then back on (or on then back off) seems to correct this, and the image is displayed correctly as soon as I switch the feature off or on from what it was at before. When watching TV or recorded TV through the HTPC, the image will blank out (screen goes fully black) for about one second seemingly randomly throughout the shows, multiple times per minute. When playing PS3, the image will turn to white "snow" for a split second, also randomly, but rarely. These are the only issues I've experienced so far (but experience them every day), and they're very annoying issues.
I've tried switching different settings, turning features on and off, and nothing seems to correct it. It's driving me crazy.
I've had zero issue with these things (or with the TV in general, at all) before the update.
Is there any way to manually flash firmware on this TV? Is everyone else on this firmware version as well, and if so, has anyone experienced issues like these? Any ideas what could be causing it?

As of last night, I'm still on the original firmware. I'll check mine once it gets updated.
Other than the issues you are having, have you noticed anything new with the update? It doesn't look like Vizio posts a changelog for updates so we are left to figure it out on our own.

They added Game Mode, and there were some updates to some of the TV Apps (adding Yahoo weather and Sports I believe). I managed to stumble upon a press release about it last night while I was researching, I'll update this post if I can find the link again.

The original firmware for this TV already included game mode, as well as the TV apps that were mentioned, and the other features such as 5.1 output. This looks like an old press release from 2010, and even though it says it was updated this month, I don't see what is new that we didn't already have.

Just for clarification, my current firmware version is 2.15.2.0894. As far as I know, this is the same version I've had since I bought the TV in November. Looking forward to seeing if they have added any new features with the new version. One fix I'm hoping I see is for the occasional studdering or dropped frames when watching cable TV.
I just received the firmware update to 3.18.2.1164 today. No noticeable changes in any of the menus and its too early to tell if any changes to picture quality yet. One noticeable change was the availability of the M-GO and the 3D GO apps.

I haven't seen any difference other than M3go which is pretty cool. They offering 99 cent rentals for the first month so im gonna sign up. I dont see 3D on it though, nor the new Netflix with 3D. Pretty sad having an awesome TV with 3D and you cant get Netflix that has it. My PS3 and BD player all do. I also see that this years "M" series has a much better app center. I asked Vizeo if we were expected to get this and no comment of any certainty was received.
Sure love that thinner Bezel on the new "M"s though. With that and a few other minor changes though is not enough for me to jump to the new "M". Just hope us first gen "M"ers dont get left out in the cold here.
Its too bad about NetFlix being tv brand and provider specific. I dumpted them and Fios for DirecTv and now have 24/7 free3D tv on 3net, We record and watch what we went.

So I made the mistake of letting my tv upgrade the firmware to 3.18.2.1164. I now not able to manually switch my tv to 3d when connected up to my computer. I used to be able to watch backed up 3d movies and 3d youtube videos by manually switching to 3D side-by-side. Now the 3D option is greyed out and the 3d button on the remote does not work. I can manually switch the 3D when using my PS3 so it looks like you can only use the 3D on "recognized" devices or formats. This has really got me frustrated. I am hoping this is a bug in the firmware. I talked to vizio support. They wouldnt tell me if it was a known issue, but they did say they will be releasing another firmware update in about two weeks if everything goes smoothly. Here is a snippet of my chat
William: We are planning on updating this firmware so you shouldn't have this problem that much longer.
William: So it wasn't intended.
michael doe: awesome
michael doe: any idea on how long that will be?
William: I hate to give an estimate because you never know if they'll find a snag that delays the update. But if everything goes smoothly, we'll likely start rolling out within the next 2 weeks
michael doe: awesome!
michael doe: have other people reported this problem or is this a known issue?
William: We wouldn't be rolling this out for 1 person.
Snotty wise *ss reply in the context of it all by Vizeo IMO..
anyways, I haven't noticed this and we watched some 3D today. I have noticed some lag between the screens and my wireless is a bit slower. Hopefully the updated fix will give us more than just that and a better app center like the new "M's". By the way Vizeo acts we have ancient equipment here. Get on the ball Vizeo!!!
I know his remark was pretty rude huh!? My 3D works fine using my ps3 and even when playing PC games that are automatically detected...its when I have to switch the 3D manually that its greyed out..For example watching youtube in 3D or watching a 3D movie on the computer (playing from harddrive not from a Blu-ray disc)
Evidently Vizio thinks we WANT this. It's that way on their new M series. I just bought an M551D-A2R and cannot watch 3D movies on Comcast because THEY don't recognize them. I see 2 side by side images but no ability to set the Tv for 3D and it's pissing me off because I have 15 days from Bust buy ( no typo
) so chances are there will be no firmware update before my drop dead date.
Wow that is ridiculous!!! I just want my old tv back..lesson learned never doing a firmware update again!! (that is unless its one to fix this current issue lol!) At least you have a chance to return your tv though..ive had mine for about 6 months now so im pretty much screwed if they dont fix it. Well i guess all we can do is play the waiting game..I think its pretty messed up they wont let you downgrade to the older firmware..You can't even go and download the new or old firmware from their website.
I have owned my vizio m3d651sv for several months....my whole family loves this tv.. our only complaint is that when streaming 3d video from my laptop to the tv I can not select 3d mode. The tv will not accept a 1080p signal from my laptop, it sees it as 1920x1080 which does not allow me to select 3d mode. I have changed all the different view modes. Anyone have any solutions.
....you would think it would downconvert to two 740's by itself. Your probably going to have to run it through a 3D DVD player that converts up and down or 2D to 3D. I think we are all pretty much beta testers for all this new stuff, only not getting paid for it.
" The tv will not accept a 1080p signal from my laptop." Has it always been like that or just since the new firmware? I was able to stream 3d movies from my computer to the tv and manually change to 3D Side-by-side. However, since the update I am not able to anymore

I also have the M3D651. It updated to a new firmware last week sometime. I don't have any 3D content except for the VIA Apps in the TV. My DISH provider doesnt offer any 3D content in my package.
If you can tell me how to get a 3D clip onto my laptop, I can check to see if I'm able to see it.
I did check the 3D button on my DISH input on a non-3D content and it gave me the choices and let me choose 3D mode and format, the same as it did before the firmware update.
I wonder if there is a way to rollback to the older firmware
