Hi everyone.

I need a quick help cos I need to decide tomorrow what to get.
I went thrue a real nightmare with buying/returning 2xPhilips LCDs to the shop. 1st one had a dead pixel (40pfl5507) and the 2nd one (46pfil5007) had really bad bleeding and after 2 days of using stopped working properly connected to my computer. the computer recognized it as generic and max resolution was 1024x768. I suppose the software got bug-ed. I tried connecting to other computers/different HDMI ports/cables/reseting to factory settings,... and same results so I returned that one also and I don't want to hear about Philips ever again in my life mad.gif.

Anyway I need your advice cos I don't know what to pick at this stage. The only thing that is important to me is good picture and no-problem(s)/bugs/... using it as a computer screen (movies, games, internet, work,...) at 1080p/60Hz.
I don't use 3d, smart Tv, usb play, wi-fi, effects,.......

As I see it's not really possible to get a good quality screen without all these options that IMHO are only problem for me cos to much options could meen many bugs (the philips TVs that I tried had really slow menu/software).

I'm thinking of going Sammy 46es6710 or 46es6100 if you confirm that I don't really need local dimming as some sites claim. AFAIK this is the only main difference between these 2 that could affect me using the TV as a computer monitor?

Currently I'm on Sammy 40" a656 that's been great and still working great to this date after years of using. never any problems/bugs/blocking or whatever.
Is it really hard to get this kind of a TV in these days when they "stick" all kind of unnecessary options (to me) inside the TV?

Are there any models maybe that have the same quality of picture as series 6 but without all these options so the price would be even less?

thanks.

hi. thanks for the reply.

I wasn't able to find this model around here so it seems it's not available in my area.
I would really prefer Samsung for my next TV cos I have good experience with them and along with philips, sony and panasonic they are the most available around here (Croatia).

I would just like a confirmation from someone using one of Sammy newest series 6 how it behaves connected to a PC.

thanks.

Cheaper no frills sets generally make better computer monitors. LG has had great computer monitor sets in the past. Check out 4:4:4 Chroma subsampling. Dirty whites connected to scrolling.

Good Luck.

hi guys. I got myself a sammy 46es6710 and I'm really happy with it. I'm one of the lucky ones that don't have any visible bleeding/clouding etc. (at least for me).
I've made a calibration as best I could without pro equipment using disk 709. I never get above 16-235 flashing except when I played with ffdshow settings and forced it somehow but not sure if this is ok. I use ffdshow, hali media splitter and ac3filter (for SPDIF to my decoder). I've tryed using madVR but no luck, can't get subtitles to work, will have to investigate more).

I set my desktop using on standard mode (60Hz in OS), my games on entertain mode (60Hz; I don't like this one much cos it's to "burned out" somehow, but can't use standard cos I keep it very low on backlight to be "soft" for my eyes (4) and also this one (standard) looks a bit strange in games, like looking thrue a grey filter or fog).
for movies/video I switch on 23,976Hz (I get 24p on my TV) thrue Media Player Classic Home Cinema (EVR Sync) when I watch movies and that one look very good to me.

What I'm interested is which output (0-255 / 16-235) to set in the nvidia control panel (NCP further in the txt), and if even possible cos If I use HDMI it sets it self in YCbCr444 wich is if I understand 16-235 output, and if I connect thrue DVI I get RGB output (0-255). AFAIK this is a bug in NCP cos I can't change those for specific connection and can be changed thrue .inf changing or using some third party tool.

should I bee woried about this or should I just leave it at HDMI (YCbCr444)?

If I'm not mistaken data (games) from computer is made as RGB 0-255 and video (movies, etc) as YCbCr444 (16-235)?

P.S. Al this is still abit confusing to me, especialy outputs/ranges (0-255/16-235; RGB, YUV,.....) and I'm trying to connect the dots. I've read alot of guides already but some info's are still missing in the head :-).

My computer is i5 2500k/4,5GHz/8gb/GTX570/Win7 x64, so I think it should have more than enough juice for any possible demanding video processing.

thanks.

edit: forgot to mention, I've connected my PC to the TV using HDMI1 connector and I've set it in PC mode in TV's menu cos of awful mouse lag that I can't stand otherwise. The downside of this is that majority of settings in the menu is disabled for me :-(.
When I switch to 24p when watching movies I get this options back, so only for that mode I was able to setup color, tint/hue etc.

also, when watching movies in MPCH should I set it to switch to 23,976 or 24Hz? To me, 23,976 seems less judder.
