I am thinking of purchasing this TV. What is the concensus? Would you purchase it? Also, is anyone else having problems with the bleeding from edge lit?

I would buy it again in a heart beat - especially for the price. I just took a picture of the "bleeding" to show you. It really is not that bad. Only noticeable in dark room with dark scenes. will post picture later tonight

Note the upper left and right hand corners.

Also note - this is a pitch black room with is no input signal and therefore nothing displaying. This is the "worst case scenario" for any bleeding you may experience. The instant you display any color - video game, movie, cable, dish, etc your knowledge of the bleeding will likely vanish, unless you only like watching "dark-scened" movies in a pitch black cave, then you will not forget about it haha.

As I stated, bleeding will occur with almost all LED televisions, especially with edge-lit technology. However, this will rarely affect the viewing experience.

With normal room lighting you will not see any bleeding. This tv is great. Vizio's tech support has been somewhat lackluster with this release, but the product itself gets a thumbs up from me!

**Sorry for the fuzzy quality of the picture - I took it with my cell phone (galaxy s3).

I should have mine Thursday. Anyone have some picture settings to share for the KDE? The ones previously posted are for the KD.

Thanks.

Settings posted are for KDE model. I made a typo when I posted them but they are surely for the KDE model - I own the television and am using the settings.

Just hooked mine up last night. Works and looks great. I am still playing with the settings, but the ones posted here are pretty good. My netflix worked fine even before the upgrade I got overnight.

Depends on how it is set up, as with most televisions.

Seeing as you have 250+ posts I am going to go with the assumption that you aware of - Do not expect IMAX Theatre quality on any 3D television - As almost no content is rendered in the same way that it is for theater (with a few exceptions). Look online and many people will state seeing different 3D effect in theaters that were left out in their Blu-ray edition, but like i said there are exceptions to this.

That being said - with proper TV Settings, Room Lighting, and most importantly with the topic at hand - proper convergence distance will make good 3D content look exceptional.

For those not aware of convergence distance in terms of 3D, look at your user manual. Essentially it is making sure that you are sitting at the proper distance & angle from your television to ensure that picture "converges" at your glasses to provide proper depth to the image.

As with most movies... if the 3D looked good in theaters (not even talking IMAX 3D.... just RealD and the like), then it'll probably look quite good on the TV as well. It's kinda cliche now, but i have to say that i still think Avatar has the best 3D effects out of any movie i've watched. As you would expect.... a movie SHOT in 3D will look far better than a movie done in 3D solely for the ability to do 3D montage bits.... like Resident Evil: Afterlife where the majority of the "in your face"-esque 3D bits were saved for stuff like bullets and debris flying at you and such.

Well, I guess it's true that all tvs are not manufactured equally. My tvs "bleeding" is better than Jonathan3300, coming only slightly and equally from all 4 corners, almost as if it was supposed to be that way. I'd buy the tv in 2 seconds, but newegg had a deal today on the 240 hz Lg version of this TV for only a hundred more. However that sale expired 6 minutes ago.
As for the 3d, it's great. As Jonathan said if you set up the right distance and angle it's darn good. Better than real d at the theatre (which it should be on such a smaller scale). I especially enjoy the 3d gaming aspect. Assassins creed and COD BLOPS2 boast some nice 3d. It's almost hard to play them in 2d now.

Hey guys,

I got the M3D470KD for Christmas, and till the other day love the TV. But, I got a notice a few days ago of a firmware upgrade, and not the TV looks like crap. It looks as if the smooth motion effect is on permanently and can't be removed. I've tried resetting the TV numerous times to no avail. Has anyone else had this same problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Chris, when you say smooth motion is permanently on now, do you mean you no longer have a menu option under the Advanced Picture options menu to turn off smooth motion? I ask because my dad just bought this TV and I can't find a setting to turn this off at all despite what the user manual says.

I have the smooth motion in the menus and can turn it from off to low medium or high. But, it doesn't change anything on the screen like it originally did.

What does turning it off and turning the game mode on do? I already have it off...always have.

You have the "KDE' version and the menu has "Smooth motion" ? I have the M3D550KDE, I would guess it has the same menu's as the 47" version & I don't have smooth motion. Where is it on your TV in the Advanced settings? The M3D470KD may have it since it's a different TV than the KDE.

Have had the M3D550KDE for almost 2 weeks now. It has great PQ BUT I do notice some motion bliurring. It has the same specs as my E701I- A3 70" Vizio but that doesn't have the blurring. I have read that the response spec is meaningless as there is no standard on how's to spec it, they both have a 6ms rating but there is a noticable difference. 3D is great on the KDE.

I picked up the 55" from Costco yesterday. Used johnathans specs from page 2 and turned game mode on. Watched resident evil afterlife last night via xfinity on demand in 3d. Have to say for 800 bucks this is the big screen replacement I have been looking for. Also mine came with software 3.1.2. Go get yourselfs one of these. I have a 240 hz version in 42" vizio I bought two years ago and this picture trumps that by a ton.

moltenburn,
Do you watch sports? Reason I ask is, do you see motion blur? I have 2 other Vizios, a 42" & a " 70" both 120Hz and this TV has noticeable blur watching ice hockey, those don't. Also I notice lip sync issues, not right away but if it's on a single station for an hour it develops lip sync lag, if I change the station then come back to the original, it's fine but it will happen again in a while if I leave it there. I have the same firmware as you. My 70" initially had the lip sync lag but when it updated its firmware, it was fixed for good. The 3D is great & Pq is great too. I would hate to return it, I like everything else about it.

In what capacity, 3d replacement? If that's the case I had an LG 47LS4700 (I think the LS part is correct, forgive my memory if not) with 3D & this tv has better 3D. The LG had issues with a few movies not quite right, the Vizio has been perfect. Also the LG has poor picture quality, a washed picture (faces) that I was unable to correct with settings. I had no problem with PQ on a previous LG that I had. The problem with that was no audio half the time when I turned it on. Bottom line, the Vizio has been good EXCEPT for the fast motion blur which I see when watching ice hockey. Not the end of the world but worse than other 120 hz tv's I have.

I just picked the M3D470KDE up last Saturday. One thing I immediately noticed is crazy input lag while playing Xbox games. I have the game mode turned on, quality HDMI cable connected, newest firmware, etc. I'm about ready to return this thing and get an LG or Samsung. Anyone have any ideas? I have been searching high and low for things to try, and I'm fresh out of ideas myself. Anyone have any insight?

I see a LOT of fast pace blurring during hockey games, I will keep my eyes out before my 90 days is up to replace it with something better.

Hi,

Turning the Game Mode "ON" does turn off the so called "Soap Opera Effect" in the vizio TV. You can switch on the Game Mode by going to MENU>SETTINGS>GAME MODE
