I was able to get a great deal on this TV over the weekend and now that I've got it up and running I have a few questions. I'm sure these have already been answered but I was unable to find anything.

  1. Remote Control - is it possible to program this remote to control my DirecTV receiver? My Denon receiver? Does anyone know if the Xbox One will be compatible with a universal remote?
  2. Vizio Apps - HDMI 1 the ARC is connected to my receiver but I can't get the Youtube app to play sound through the receiver. Am I missing a setting? I have the same issue with the Netflix app.

Hello everyone,

I'm a fellow lurker, logging on this site from time to time when I am looking to buy new hardware. I've had my eye on this TV for awhile and with the Walmart Black Friday deal coming up I am really thinking about pulling the trigger. I have been reading through the 50+ pages of this thread and I have noticed a lot of people seem to have problems with this TV. Multiple people have returned them, several people seem to be on their 2nd or 3rd set (but happy enough to keep getting the same set). I know if I go to any owner's thread there are going to be people mentioning problems but I can't tell if they are more prevalent with this TV or not. Seems like there are plenty of happy owners on this thread as well.

Just want to let you know that I've had NO problems with mine and I've had it since March - 2013. smile.gif

Great unit and I've had complements on the picture quality it produces.

I am considering purchasing the 70 inch Vizio (to replace an old 65 inch Mitsubishi RPTV). The fartherst back I can sit from the TV is 10 feet. Is anyone sitting that close to their 70 inch Vizio and if so, what has been your experience with picture quality, filed of vision, seeing pixels, etc.? Thanks, Jeff

I am anxiously awaiting delivery next week of the E701i-A3. I really like the 60" but from 15 feet still seems too small to me.

Ive been lurking on this thread ever since I found out It was going to be on sale for the Walmart Black Friday Event on Thanksgiving night and I have to say thanks for all the tips and information everyone has shared.  Ive been researching all I can about the TV and for the price Its just too much of a deal to turn down.  I was cautious at first because of the array of problems people seem to have with this product but that will happen with all modern technology to some degree and Vizio really seems to be standing by their factory 1 year warranty with everyone on here.  In the end, like I said, Its just too good a deal to walk away from.

However, I have one odd question I haven't seen on any thread....... anywhere.  I made It out to Walmart to check It out In the store before they pulled the boxes off the floor and to the back storage In preparation for next week.  I noticed there were two different styles of boxes on the pallet.  One box was green and red exactly like the picture that was posted early In this thread.  However, there were more boxes that were just white with red trim and black writing.  Is there a difference inside the box In either manufacture date, updated hardware or possible refurbish that equates to the different packaging?  As you can probably tell I tend to over think somethings. lol.  Im just looking for any advantage I can get In the newest possible set available to me versus one that has been sitting In stock for the last 9-12 months.

Thanks In advance for any knowledge any of you might have on the topic.  Hopefully a week from now I will be posting on here as an actual owner of a Vizio E70".

Its the E701i-A3E 70"   It Is advertised as a new TV.  I just wasnt sure why the different boxes for the same TV.  I was thinking they maybe changed the design of the box for the new production year and the couple of green and red boxes were overstock from last production year?  Just curious If anyone else has seen the two different boxes.  Like I said If the new design Is for the newest production year I would obviously rather pick that one over one that has been sitting there for a year.

There has been some discussion over on the E601-A3 owner's thread about the possibility of the E601-A3E (being offered on Black Friday for $688) being a slightly neutered version of the E601-A3 offered last year (non-querty remote, less HDMI ports, slightly higher wattage, etc) I don't know if this is true and I don't know if this applies to the Black Friday E701i-A3E.

I saw the ad too. How many do you figure they will have per store and what's to prevent employees from scooping them up? I don't foresee this will work very well.

I was first in line last year for the 60" Vizio for $688 and they had 24 units in my store. I know for a fact that the employees didn't scoop them up. Most of the employees, excluding Managers, didn't even know the structure of the sale, # of units, etc. until a few minutes before the sale had begun. If I had been a visitor at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia, I would been able to extract more information from the employees than I did at Walmart. If anyone wants any strategy tips, just ask.

Thanks for the info on the sale last year. Sounds a lot more promising than my pessimistic post. I went to teh store the other day and could get no info on stocking or the sale, just like you said.

I don't think regular Walmart employees can afford them. Most employees at the Walmarts where I live make around 9 bucks an hour. I worked there for a week in 2009 doing floors on the night shift and the pay was $9.20 for the shift differential. I don't think it's gone up much since then, and if you're part time, you don't make much over minimum wage, which hasn't changed in most states since the Clinton era.

There ought to be different minimum wage rules for big rich corporations like Walmart. But they would lobby against that aggressively obviously.

Here's a copy of a post I made earlier about my experience on Black Friday at Walmart last year:

I can only give you my perspective as someone who was determined to get the 60" Vizio last year. First of all, the terms that you quoted only apply to the items marked "1 hour guarantee". The 70" Vizio is not a "1 hour guarantee" item. Last year, the 60" Vizio for $688 sale was at 10pm. I showed up way too early (around noon) and just milled around the store. At precisely 5PM (5 hours prior to sale time), employees came from the back of the store with large balloons, each marked with an individual doorbuster item. I followed them and when they placed the one marked 60" Vizio on a side isle, I stood by it and I was the first person in line. Immediately, two other guys walked up and, for quite a while, we were the only people in that line. An employee was stationed at our line and we each received temporary vouchers. There were 24 60" Vizios in my store and it wasn't until 7:30-8:00PM that there were 24 people in our line. The employee then informed anyone attempting to line up that all 24 Vizios were spoken for. At precisely 10PM, our temporary vouchers were exchanged for actual vouchers and we proceeded to checkout. It was all very organized and orderly. My advice for you is to show up approx. 5 hours before the sale time, bring a folding chair, something to read and don't drink a lot of water beforehand as we were only allowed 1 15 min. bathroom break. If you are determined, you will get that 70".

The moral of the story is instead of hanging around Walmart for 10 hours, I could have walked in 2 and a half hours before sale time and still scored a 60" Vizio for $688.

thanks guys! going to try getting the walmart black friday deal, and after the measurements of the box (69x41x10), it looks like it will JUST fit, but I wanted to make sure. Also, would it be wise to bring extra blankets to cushion underneath the tv?

Especially with a 70" that sounds risky. Put somebody in the back to hold it up at an angle and act like a shock absorber if you can.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

The different number model number (A3E) may just be to save other retailers who have a price matching guarantee.

There are minor differences between the A3 and A3e. It was covered a couple of pages back. The A3 is better.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but you can buy this Vizio before BF with your Discover card and get the difference refunded using the price protection feature (it covers Black Friday ads as long as the price difference is under $500)
