I've been seeing more and more TCL TV's popping up on the internet. I finally got to see one in person on black friday at out local Sam's Club. I was totally shocked at the picture quality of this TV. The 55" Model is on sale at Amazon for $699 with free shipping. Has anyone actually purchased one of these units?

I'm waiting to see what the experts say about this set. It's a back lit vs edge, can't expect local diming, but I expect it's easier to make than the difuser needed to get an nice edge lit display. It's also suppost to be 240hz. I am going to look at one tomorrow. Planning on mounting it over the fireplace with a tilt mount, so hoping it's not going to poke out too much. The wife thinks thinner will look better, but if there is a good argument for picture quality I might win out.

@ lukesdiesel

So how was the picture quality? vivid? bright? biggrin.gif

I been looking at this 55" version for a while witch seem to be a great deal and it does not hurt the wallet that much. It's kind of hard to buy since if you have not seen it in person and there seem's to be no review videos around.

Thanx... wink.gif

Yes, I'd also like to know what you thought of the PQ in comparison to say something like a Samsung 7500 LED or Panasonic VT50 plasma.

I saw one at Frys, Looked resonable, but without playing with calibrations and several hours it's hard to tell what it will do. One thing to note though is the response time is listed as around 12ms This is very slow by today's standards and sort of makes 240 hz an impossibility. Also, a number of people on Amazon have mentioned that their sets would not go above 60 hz. I still think it's a buy for what Fry's is pushing them out for, but it probably won't stack up to better name brand sets.

I have the 48" and it does seem to have excellent refresh.... I'm thinking the 12ms response may be RT but I do know that 1080i HD cable looks amazing on mine. It could have some kind of plain, basic 240Hz refresh panel that simply does not overly process to the point of the dreaded Soap Opera Effect. I'm actually amazed at the PQ and am thinking of getting the 55" as it's still $699 on Amazon, I am THAT impressed with the PQ.

I'm still on the fence with this TV. I have been nursing my old TV for the past few months until I could decide on a TV.
