Guys,

I've been out of the TV game for a while and I need some help. Can you please tell me which of those 2 tv's I should choose and why?

They have many similar features, both have 2 HDMI and 1 USB, LG is 4,000,000:1, Samsung is 6,000,000:1, both are 120hz, and both have a slim bezel.

Is there anything else I'm missing in the specs of the TV? I think both are Edge lit. I also can't find which format their USB drives will play, I'm confident the Samsung will play all formats with ConnectShare but not sure with the LG.

The Samsung is 100 dollars more but I'm fine paying that if there is a significant difference between the two.

Thank you for your help

Gullit,

I am in the same position I purchased the LG 47LS4500 for my mother for Christmas, but reading some of the reviews online it doesn't seem to be a very good budget tv. There has been mention that the TruMotion 120Hz is actually a 60Hz panel with software that converts it to 120Hz, see the links below.

http://hdguru.com/lg-55lm6700-hdtv-review-when-120-hz-isnt-120-hz-updated/8281/

http://slickdeals.net/f/5573532-47-LG-47LM4600-1080p-120Hz-3D-LED-HDTV-500-Best-Buy-Free-in-store-pickup-YMMV?&page=2 (A few post down, a different model tv but same technology).

Now, I am looking to return the LG 47LS4500 because even though the 60Hz might not mean anything to my mother I would rather spend a little bit more to get a better TV for her.

I am currently looking at the Samsung, UN46ES6003, UN46ES6100, the Vizio M3D470KD, as well Bestbuy's Clearance UN46D6420.

If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated my mother doesn't need to have 3D, Smart Apps etc. I just care about true 120Hz, and good picture quality for the price as well as the slim design.

Why all the links regarding Samsungs TerrenceQ? Bias for some reason? I know, it actually fits in as a response to this thread. But not with the others you're responding to. "Is an
old Sony 32 inch boob tube worth buying for $0.50?.... 'Why not buy a 70 inch Samsung? Here's the link - www.samsungrules.com'".

TerrenceQ... I apologize. I jumped the gun and now I see that not all your posts are pushing Samsung. I went by the first several I saw which wasn't a true representation of your overall posts. I reviewed some more of your replies and now I admit that I am the douche. Sorry, I should have taken a look before I decided to show my ignorance. From what I see now, it looks like you're only trying to help others make an informed decision. So, good on you!

I realize this response is super late and you probably already bought one or the other.

I bought the LG 47LS4500 on New Years and set it up. The size was great and the picture was very solid. After playing with it for a while I realized it had no "soap opera" effect. I started doing more research and discovered LG's "trumotion" was not the same as Samsung or other Tru Motion 120hz. I don't want to watch all my shows with the soap opera effect but I do want my sports and games to be AS SMOOTH as poosible. And more importantly, 1) I want the choice to turn tru motion on or off and 2) I want a product as advertised.

With the LG there is no advanced picture setting to turn the trumotion on/off. Apparently, it is just an automatic adjustment within the software. So, even though it is advertized as 120hz - you are often times (from what I experienced) just getting a 60hz image. This might be fine for many consumers - I know many don't want the soap opera effect, or even to mess with it.

SO, I kept it a few days to see how bugged I really was and decided to take it back. I purchased the Samsung UN46ES6003 and LOVE it. It is noticeably smaller (1" makes a difference on the overall size) but it is still big and the picture is far superior. Plus you have more control, I feel, over your picture settings. I paid a little over $100 more for the Samsung (from Walmart) and am not bothered by the price at all. It was well worth it. I love the TV. Also, the speakers on the Samsung, although no sound bar, are better than the LGs.

Actually the Samsung 46ES6003 is LARGER than the LG 47LS 4500. The Samsung has a 45.9" diagonal, the LG is only 44.9". The LG is marketed as a 47" CLASS set, but is really a 45" set.
