for watching tv im usings stooic's settings with a few variations because every set is made it bit different, what looks good to one person might not look as good to another.
and i might try the picture wizard

but havent tried his latest ones

at night i still keep the settings but if im laying down ill just use the intelligent light sensor.

when i play games i use modelomaestro22's settings

I bought this TV from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $486 and the system they sent me had severe back-light bleed through. Splotchy and annoying. It was so bad that it bled clean through the graphics in darker-colored games in clumps. Gears of War 3 and Dead Space 3 in particular looked like they had an in-game light-source shining through all the time in the top-left corner - fading out the colors in the game.

So I bought another one at Walmart to compare and it had minor bleed through, but only minor - un-noticeable unless the screen is completely black and blank. Even less noticeable than it is on a smaller Samsung LED TV I have. So the Amazon TV was returned and the Walmart TV kept, for $64 more after tax, but so be it, I'm not going to put up with defective LED lighting - got a full refund including shipping from Amazon.

The point being - different copies of this model have different degrees of uneven back-light brightness - if yours is really bad, return it.

I just picked up a 55LS4500 from Best Buy yesterday. It was an open box item for $602. I replaced my Samsung 56" DLP which is experiencing the "white dot syndrome". Anyway have it set up and turned off the energy saver as mentioned. Thanks.

As a Rewards Zone Silver premier member, I'm getting a free calibration done on it in April. After it's done, I will post the settings here.

I bought the 47ls4500 about a month ago, if i did more research i would of went with a samsung led instead. Bought mine at best buy for $580. My only gripe is standard def looks pretty bad, the hd channels look great. I wish i could find good calibration but I end up using cinema mode or game mode (360) with factory settings. If you guys have any tips to make sd channels look better please post them. My 360 looks good for most part, but i now know I could of got a better tv for roughly same price. Bummer best buy only does returns for 15 days.

welcome to HD displays. the higher the resolution the worse SD channels will look, that's pretty standard across the board

You will generally see crappy SD regardless of which TV you choose, especially when you get to larger screen sizes as all the flaws are just magnified that much more.

Hi all,

So I read all the reviews, tweeks and concerns but pulled the trigger on this unit at BB two weeks ago. Price was good and thought it would be a decent TV for the man cave. Unfortunately, it's already being replaced with a Tosh 50" similar specs and here's why:

I recently picked up a Tosh 40" for my bedroom and it's one of the best images out of the box I've ever seen. Non HD looks outstanding. The lighting is unbelievable and has self adjusting capability based on ambient light. After picking up this LG, it was a complete disappointment because I've been spoiled by the Tosh. I love Justified and watched a recorded show as my test program. While I fiddled and reset everything multiple times (even used the two recommendations offered in this forum), I just could not get it to look anywhere near the 40" Tosh in my bedroom. After 5 minutes of Justified, the low freq caused the speakers to start the humming/rattling thing like the sound was vibrating the case (it was only turned up to 10!). One thing that drives me crazy is a TV that humzzzzzzzz! And before you all tell me to get sound additions I already have a really decent 5.1 but I don't always use it since everything is not offered in that format. I do like to use on board audio for standard viewing.

So that was the kicker, it's slated to be returned as soon as the Tosh 50" shows up.

Peace,
Bug

I used the thx calibration that comes with every thx certified dvd and that seemed to help a good bit. The only remaining complaint is during some dark scenes in games and movies arent as detailed? As i think they should be although is that another common thing with lcd/leds?

gabugman,

I think you may have gotten a bad set. I watch Justified every week on my 55ls4500 and it sounds fine using the TV speakers.

I agree it might have been a bad set I use the tv speakers for most standard viewing except for when I watch blu rays and although they're not the best they aren't to bad I haven't heard any rattle or distortion even when I put it up to 72
