Hi - I have my HTPC hooked up to the ES8000 by hdmi (port 2) and the source name set to 'PC' When I try to change the picture mode to Movie etc all i get is Standard/Entertainment mode. Also the colour and tint settings are disabled. Samsung manual says that only Standard/Entertainment settings available when connecting to PC via hdmi/dvi cable but pure hdmi cable should be ok no?
If I switch source to Blu Ray or ---- i get the modes back but PQ is awful. Really don't get this. Done so much googling but can't find anything. It's actually driving me nuts
If i switch to the '----' and blu ray source names the colours are very very saturated and picture very grainy (cant be good).
Only thing I can think of is that the PC video card is doing stuff and Samsung PC mode accomodates that.
So that begs the question whats the best way of getting the PC to output to the TV if its also processing the signal?
If you want the TV (not the computer) to handle the processing, you can still use HDMI-out, but instead use a more *generic* video player (such as VLC or Media Player Classic) - that way, the PC is as involved as little as possible. I seldom used my Philips in this way (no slight on the Philips - it's that I own a *desktop*, which isn't all that portable), but that was my own preferred method (Windows Media Player and HDMI-out), and the Philips only supported 720P or 1080i. Even though the Philips itself is being swapped out (replacement is a Sony KDL-40BX450 LED - can't go bigger due to lack of wall, so instead I went higher quality and slightly smaller), I will seldom use the replacement for seriously Widescreen Windows (either 8 or - don't faint - Server 2012).
