F8500 is a plasma set and I didn't go with plasma due to 1) image retention and 2) buzzing.

There is no way, I could have lived with either of those negatives.

I would rather take my chances with LED. smile.gif

In terms of picture quality, If I were to go with plasma, and that is a big if, I would have rather gone with the Panasonic Plasma models instead of the Samsung plasma models.

Samsung UN75F8000 LED TV, NAD T-777 (7.2 Receiver), Oppo 103, Sony PS4, Panamax MR-5100, 7 Paradigm Reference series 8" in ceiling speakers (AMS-150R) - 30 degree tilting speakers, 2 Paradigm SE Sub, universal remote MX-450, universal advanced RF base station MRF-3501. Pics here.

The only problem I have on mine is buzzing. I'm still debating whether or not to change to the F8000, what do you think if you only had the buzzing?

I was at a friends house and he had a plasma. I can't remember the brand or the model but I couldn't stand the buzzing. It was low but my ears picked it up. There is no way, I could ever get a plasma due to that reason alone!

No TV is perfect. But, I couldn't live with the buzz so I had to go 100% LED. smile.gif

You can try the LED and if you have issues, you can always return it within the first 30 days!

I just did a quick search in Amazon and on the detail page it says the below.

Backlight: LED (Edge-Lit w/ Local Dimming)

I am debating between the F8500 plasma and the F8000 LED. I am building a new house and will have an open living room/kitchen area with several windows on the left side of the house. I will be mounting the TV above the gas fireplace. I'm looking at prices online and Abe's of Maine have both TV's in the 60in version and they are very similar in price with the led being about $60 cheaper. I mainly watch football and reality TV with occasional movies and gaming. Any advice would be appreciated as I plan on having this TV as my main unit for at least 5-7 years until oled are down to normal prices. Thanks in advance!

I don't know about the plasma but beware the F8000 is very reflective. If you have windows facing the tv, you will see them. It is like a mirror in the daytime. smile.gif

Is anyone experiencing audio/video sync issues (lip sync issues) when connected to Pay TV box or downloaded files through either media player or streaming? I have heard some of the samsungs have issues

Cheers in advance

With my Oppo Blu ray player, I have A/V sync set. See if there is a setting available to adjust A/V sync?

Hi guys, I'm new here, I tried to search but there's way too much information in this forum

I keep reading that the F8000 is the first Samsung TV that supports HEVC/H.265, yet I'm trying to watch some movies encoded with HEVC from my NAS and my TV says they're not supported. I have no problem whatsoever with H.264 though.

Can someone clarify please?

Thanks!!!

AkumaWolf, you may want to ask in the owners thread. See link here.

As a proud F8000 owner since July 2013, I am actually very close to picking up a 51" F8500 plasma. They are dirt cheap now at $1,200 bucks and I need a TV for when I'm living at my university (my F8000 is still at my parents' house). Of course when I fully move out to live on my own I will be taking both the F8000 and F8500 with me. I see both of them offering extremely satisfying PQ until a Samsung 4K OLED flagship is available to add to my collection. I also am interested in buying it because I believe it is a piece of television history since plasmas will be no more after this holiday buying season.

The only thing that I'm concerned about is the supposed floating blacks on the F8500 and the potential buzz/panel hum that plasmas seem to have. Having not personally seen a plasma in ideal viewing conditions, it's still hard for me to imagine the F8500 having superior contrast and color and motion compared to the superb F8000 that I'm still blown away by each time I watch it. I think owning the best of both LED and plasma worlds will be very cool.

I stayed away from plasma mostly due to the buzzing sound and the IR.. But, mostly it was the buzzing. I can pick up the slightest sounds so buzz from the TV would drive me nuts.

I just bought a UN75F8000 last week but just saw that the Sony XBR-70x850b are now on sale for only $100 more than what I paid. Honest assessment - do you guys think the XBR-70x850b would be a better by because of the 4k? I assume the PQ on the 4k would be as good or better.

To me 4K is not worth getting till OTA is 4K quality. Right now, barely most of the network stations are even 1080i. Upconverting from lower systems to 4K is hit or miss from what I hear. I will not be an early adopter. Will wait till it matures more.

I haven't seen one, but philosophically does it make sense to buy a TV with a resolution that you have almost nothing to show on it? I realize they are getting cheaper, because all sets get cheaper over time. But 1080 content will look pretty much the same on good 1080 panel as it will on a 4k panel. And don't get started on the notorious "upconversion" thing, that doesn't fly in real life.Try watching some low res stuff on your 1080 TV and see how that looks lol.

This is the type of un-bias opinion I was hoping to get I was thinking the same thing. That said, the UN75F8000 plays 1080 content way better than any other 1080 tv I've ever seen, which is the main reason I went that route.

However, when I was at Best Buy, they had a Sony 70" 1080 XBR next to a Sony 70" 4k XBR and the salesman claimed they were playing a 1080 video signal of the eiffel tower to both sets side by side and claimed that the 4k was upconverting the signal and it looked noticeably more detailed. That's when I started to feel the buyer's remorse that there really is a difference.

I bet you the 4k TV was playing a 4K source. You can't trust a TV salesman as far as you can throw him. Put on a freaking football game and we'll talk!

I don't disagree. I was very doubtful about the truth in his statement , YET I also know how incompetent these guys are. For them to be able to pull of two different sources, (4k to first set and then 1080 to second set) and be in absolute perfect sync seems very doubtful to me. Therefore based on that , I concluded my cynicism leaned more to the possibility that he was being truthful based on the fact that is more likely they're too incompetent to pull that off.

Those stores show the same content on all the TVs sometimes, probalby 4k on those models and who knows they could show 4k on all of them, it's synched sure. They want to sell the 4K sets, they cost more. So they would be dumb not to show 4k content on them right? Like I said show me some football baby, show me golf. If I wanna see the Eiffel Tower I'll go to Paris1

that's the game they tried to run on me. i had them turn both to ABC college football and the 1080p tv looked better. The 4k upscaling didn't look as good with the 720p/1080i cable signal.

There you go. And back when I had a 720p/1080i DLP set Blueray and regular DVD looked exactly the same too. (Blueray sounded better though)
