Samsung's marketing nonsense about Micro Dimming Superkalafragalisticexpialidocious Ultimateness is nonsense.

Agreed. I'm hoping they are, at the very least, a slight upgrade over the ES series. I'm really intrigued by the F8500 Plasma TBH. If it is as bright as the LED's with even darker blacks than the current E8000, that is impressive. (FIX THE FRACKIN' BUZZING!)

I'm just looking for a 55-60" with 3D, that new Smart Hub with that quad-core processor, and an Evolution Kit Slot. I hope they don't handcuff the Evolution Kit Slot to the Smart Interaction hardware. I have 0 use for the Voice commands or Web Cam.

The F8500 looked great on the show floor. I hate to overrate show-floor demos, but it looked great.

The black level looked amazing on the ZT60 as did the red vs. the VT50. I own and really like the VT50, but the ZT was a clear upgrade (albeit an expensive one).

It was less obvious the LCD was a huge upgrade, but a lot of that had to do with floor conditions and demo materials. Honestly, if the F8000 improves uniformity, I'd consider it a very good set. The UI/Smart TV stuff is hugely improved.

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

Here is a note from Robert Zohn who does the annual TV "Shoot Out"

Samsung engineers hit a grand slam home run with the new F8000 series. Exceptional form, fit and finish. This new display boasts all metal construction with a new even more ultra thin elegant design. A true pleasure when off and an absolutely stunning image when powered on, 1/4" bezel and the 1.2" thin the low profile all metal construction gives the confident feeling of quality.

The 2013 Smart 2.0 interface is not the only smart thing you we'll have in the so very smart size offerings of 46", 55", 60", 65" and the enormous, but not too enormous 75". You will also enjoy the next generation of applications and uses from your Android or Apple phones and tablets.

Samsung is true to their word and by Q2, 2013 we can now purchase the 2012 "E Series" Smart Evolution upgrade kit for delivery planned for the end of February. The Evolution upgrade kit will give your 2012 E series the new 2013 "Quad Core" processor and all of the menus and apps. and of course, Samsung will continue with Evolution kit upgrades for the 2013 TVs

Finally, and to my delight, this year's flagship "edge lit" LED panel did not suffer from the expected anomalies. The screen uniformity is vastly improved and almost non-existent and lack of flash-lighting in the corners was a pleasant and welcome surprise. My hat's off to the fine design and electrical engineers for developing this great panel.

Enjoy!

Good info. It seems they went the opposite direction than I was hoping for on the F7100. They kept Voice commands and scrapped the quad-core, I was hoping they would drop all Smart Interaction and keep the quad-core. Looks like it's an F7500 LED or F8500 Plasma. PLLEEEEEEEEEEEASE don't buzz F8500, I'm counting on you.

haha. I honestly don't mind the X stand. I don't understand why people hate it so much. It's nicer looking than a giant rectangle, IMO. The only stand I DON'T want is the F6800 split V stand.

My stand is just a little too narrow for all 4 legs to rest on its surface.

I might actually rig something to attach a wall-mount to so I can get rid of the feet while still using the stand.

The F8000 allows you to hook up a harddrive to turn it into a full PVR. That's pretty slick with the dual tuners. Might have to get 2 HD boxes instead of the DVR I have. I wonder how it works exactly.

It has some of the original "pulsing" problems some of the earlier elite's had that most everyone thought were solved. It's like the local dimming is lagging behind and has trouble catching up as a scene changes. It usually involves fluctuations in brightness and contrast for 1-2 seconds. But sometimes it involves the blacks turning purplish gray until the processor adjusts the picture correctly. Sometimes it's subtle but other times not so subtle. I probably will have to return it to BB. Thank God I didn't buy it from one of the vendors here on this site since they don't take returns.

I don't think they were ever solved... just the people that were bothered the most by the pulsing issue returned their sets and stopped posting on the forum. I asked Sharp about it at the last shootout and they point blank said they had no intentions of doing any more fixes for the pulsing problem (and to my knowledge have not). It stuns me that more people don't notice it, or aren't bothered by it....congrats you are one of the chosen few. I'm glad that I returned mine, but sadly I have yet to find a decent replacement... Hopefully 2013 will bring a worthy model. I looked a lot at the VT50 but could see flickering in bright scenes (both at 60 and 96Hz refresh) so thats out too.

yet still no mention as to if anyone who has seen these noticed vertical banding or not, does samsung make these reviewers sign non-disclosure agreements saying no one is allowed to mention the words "vertical" and "banding" in the same review.

FYI in regards to the F8500 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DH0kAr-XNkE#! . Listen at the :57 and at 1:37. Looks like buzzing has not been fixed and will continue to plague certain units.

Guess its up to the F8000 to steer me away from my VT50.

The plasma flicker on the VT50 is what put me off too, I could detect a very high amount of flicker, unlike my 4 year old Kuro which, although a plasma did not have any distracting flicker to the picture. Ended up with a ES8000 instead.

Here's an article that really confuses me. I states that the F8000 uses a "full" backlit screen.

In 2012 there were also Samsung full backlt models - EH series.
http://www.hometheater.com/content/led-backlighting-vs-edgelighting-0

There are roughly four LED LCd variations:
edge-lit
edge-lit with local dimming
full array (full backlit)
full array (full backlit) with local dimming

That's really a myth/misnomer.

Edge lit allows for "zone dimming", not local dimming. The zones are 1/2 the screen width and as tall as the number of zones designed in. It's really a marketing fib to call it "local dimming" except if one uses a broad definition of local.

The EH was one of the low/mid tier lcds and was reviewed to have very poor image quality. Hopefully the f8000s, if full array, will be a big improvement.

Rogo, I get the feeling you were at the show this year and saw these models in person. If you were, just by what you saw on the show room floor, would you say the F8000 is a big improvement from the ES? I know its hard to tell there because they have these sets calibrated to the max to look their best.

Good eye (ear). That is really disappointing. Looks like it's time to really throw some cash at an LED in a few months.

I have two EH5000's and the picture quality, IMO, is awesome. I have two 32"ers that I use a computer monitors, but there is no flash lighting, obviously, no clouding, and the contrast is impressive. The motion isn't great, but they're 60hz after all. Very nice TV's for $325.

I think its the larger EH5000's that have a not so great picture. I have two 32" EH4000 with one still boxed up and the other hanging in one of the bathrooms and it has really good picture quality as well.. And I got them for free which was a killer deal when they had that promo.
