I thought I would start this thread to track how long everyone has had their Vizio E601-A3 since there seems to be some challenges that the owners have faced.
It would be nice to see some statistics from this board. Many of these fail with the first 90 days. I think this will be helpful for all. You can always come back and update the thread as time goes by.
Please indicate the following in your reply.
1) How long have you owned this unit?
2) Where you purchased?
3) Is this your first Vizio E601-A3 unit?
4) List what happened and the time frame it took since you turned on this unit?
5) Was your unit repaired or replacement?
6) Did you buy another Vizio E601-A3? Or which make & model did your replace it with?
7) What are the FIRST TWO NUMBERS OF YOUR VIZIO SERIAL NUMBER?
8) Average hours used per day?
OK I will start
1) Owned for 8 days 1.8.13
2) Purchased from Costco
3) First unit
4) so far so good
5) not repaired or replaced
6) First Unit
7) 46
8) 5-6hrs during the weekdays and 8-10hrs on weekends
4) Lip Sync issues right out of the box: Denon 3311ci set for 130ms of delay
5) N/A
6) N/A
7) 49: I searched for this, the first box I put my hands on was 41
8) 4-5 Weekdays & 10 to 14 on Weekends
Have to say I am totally impressed with the depth of this picture given the right source material. This is my first LCD & I must say that my first experience with clouds was unsettling. However I never see this in the actual movies, unless the screen goes totally black for several seconds. I paid 889.99 before tax/extended warranty & it is worth every penny.
Sorry not sure about the serial no. of the BSOD unit.
The replacement unit starts with 01.
btw, pardon my ignorance. Can you throw some light on what a SN starting with 01 means? I see your earlier comment as Production line..-thanks in advance.
Yikes they gave you an extremely low serial number for it being brand new. Hope you have good luck with it! Mine is coming from Amazon tomorrow so I wonder which serial I will end up with.
Hi All - I'm using an E701i-a3, the 70" brother to the 60". I like the idea of this thread, so thought I'd add my 2 cents since I'm about to exchange for my 3rd one this weekend! arrgghh!
First one:
1) How long have you owned this unit? - 1 week
2) Where you purchased? - Costco
3) Is this your first Vizio E701-A3 unit? - Yes
4) List what happened and the time frame it took since you turned on this unit? - 1 week then exchanged because had clouding and dead pixels
5) Was your unit repaired or replacement? - replaced with another from Costco
6) Did you buy another Vizio E601-A3? Or which make & model did your replace it with? Got another E701
7) What are the FIRST TWO NUMBERS OF YOUR VIZIO SERIAL NUMBER? I believe it was 48
8) Average hours used per day? approx 5hrs/day on weekdays, 8hrs/day on weekends.
Second one:
1) How long have you owned this unit? - 1 week
2) Where you purchased? - Costco
3) Is this your first Vizio E701-A3 unit? - no, 2nd one
4) List what happened and the time frame it took since you turned on this unit? - screen is warped. yes, warped. left side. Bottom edge is almost an inch out from the top edge instead of being the same/straight. Big flashlight right above stand.
5) Was your unit repaired or replacement? - will try one more, 3 strikes and I'm done, out.
6) Did you buy another Vizio E601-A3? Or which make & model did your replace it with? Trying another E701.
7) What are the FIRST TWO NUMBERS OF YOUR VIZIO SERIAL NUMBER? 49
8) Average hours used per day? approx 5hrs/day on weekdays, 8hrs/day on weekends.
I'm not THAT picky about my picture or my TV's. But I expect when I buy something NEW, it will not have any defects. Minor clouding or flashlights, I can live with. Dead pixels and a warped screen, I cannot. I'll keep trying because I like Vizio and the look of the TV, and also really like the PQ. Just hoping the 3rd times a charm.

1. 1-25-13
2.Walmart
3.Yes
4.Works great no problems, I love this tv I have it in the bedroom mounted on the wall with a Vizo 2.1 sound bar. This tv has a better picture then the Sharp 70 inch in the living room that was professionally calibrated !
CHECK OUT THE LATEST BSOD STATS FOR THIS E601-A3:
Lets take a look at all the serial numbers as of 2.2.13. Please keep in mind there were a few that returned black screen units and did not know the serial # of the defective unit so this will potentially skew the results. However they did report the # of the new set. BSOD = BLACK SCREENS OF DEATH
01 3 (this was a production serial)
02 1 (this was the serial of NEW CIRCUIT BOARDS after a repair - never seen a production line with 02)
38 3 with 1 BOSD
39 2
40 7 with 4 BSOD
41 5
42 4 with 1 BOSD
43 7 with 3 BSOD
44 4 with 2 BSOD
45 6 with 3 BOSD
46 12 with 1 BSOD (most reported serial number)
47 7
48 4
49 9
50 5
51 5
60 (I do not believe this is accurate....I have never seen a 60 reported before)
I would like to personally thank Montecore for starting this thread and for the continued updates. Very sobering statistics.
1) 85 total units reported, 15 BSOD = 17.6% BSOD rate overall.
2)Just taking serial #'s 38 through 46 into consideration, 50 units reported, 15 BSOD = 31% BSOD rate.
3)Taking serial #'s with at least 1 BSOD into consideration (38,40,42,43,44,45,46), 43 units reported, 15 BSOD = 35% BSOD rate.
4) Taking serial #'s with at least 1 BSOD into consideration but removing serial # 46 as an anomaly (38,40,42,43,44,45) 31 units reported, 14 BSOD = 45% BSOD rate!
As Montecore has stated, BSOD's are likely under reported due to the fact that some received replacement units without recording the serial # of the previous BSOD unit.
I read an interesting post by Kev4Bama over on the owner's forum (post # 1799) and I quote:
"Just spoke with a friend that works at Costco and he also said as stated above that all sets between serial numbers of 39 and 48 were being pulled and sent back to Vizio for full credit. He did say that the problem doesn't affect all the sets only a small percentage."
What a beautiful picture, I can see every blade of grass. Go 'niners!
