I would $hit myself if they came out with a 70" Vizio full rear-array panel ... now I would drop a few hundred extra just for that alone.

There is a 65" full array in the E series if you don't care about 3D or 240Hz.

The Sharp set has full array but no local dimming where as the Vizio will have edge lit with local dimming. Is full array w/ no local dimming better? Reading some reviews on that Sharp model and basically the black levels are decent while the picture quality itself was so so. I've been looking at the new Sharp models but they don't have local dimming, just getting tired of waiting for this 80" set to come out.

It really depends on how well the local dimming feature actually works on an edge lit panel. I have read from a couple of well respected people here on AVS that edge lit and good local dimming seems to be very unlikely. Not to say impossible but difficult from a technology standpoint. Several edge lit local dimming sets are on the way so I will be looking forward to some reviews.

Sharp 80 is just over 3K now .... Ya Vizio will be under 3K for sure!

80 is to big for me and my living room so I am eagerly waiting to see how the 70 Fairs. I took my 70" e-series back that had a dirty screen and replaced it with another yesterday so I have 90 days for this to come out ... if it doesn't then the new e-series will have to do till next year.

So HURRY F'ING UP VIZIO !!!

Do the Vizio 3D models typically include a 2D-to-3D conversion mode?

When in doubt, do the right thing.

I have the 2012 M3D651SV model and no, it does not include 2D - to - 3D conversion.

Thanks

the 50" finally has an am**.com page, but it is listed as 1-2 months delivery. I thought these were true 240 hz panels? The specs over there make it seem like a 120 with frame dimming. Is there such a thing as a true 240hz lg panel?

You can see the rear panel of the Vizio M321i HDTV on the Amazon.com web site.

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M321i-A2-32-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B00C5B1844%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIWIIVKRJ477UTXZA%26tag%3Dpltvre07-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00C5B1844

The set has all the requisite inputs. From the middle of the set at the bottom going from left to right you have:
1. An ethernet (RJ45) port for connecting the internet
2. A cable TV/Antenna coaxial connector
3. Left and right channel analog audio ouputs (for stereo)
4. Optical audio out (for audio/video receivers or DACs (Digital/Analog Converters) feeding a stereo)
5. HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)
6. HDMI # 2

On the right hand side of the set (looking from behind the set) going from top to bottom you have:
1. USB input (presumably 2.0)
2. Component audio input (analog left and right channels)
3. Component video input Pr/Cr (red), Pb/Cb (blue) and YV (green)
4. HDMI # 3

This is a super clean layout. It show how much thought Vizio has put into this new product. The only way it could be better would be for it to have a 240Hz refresh rate. And given its small size you already have the 4K resolution of the larger sets. Best Buy said it would be available towards the end of May. Costco said it would be available towards the end of June. Amazon did not know when it would be available.

looks like MSRPs are spot on for now...

the 32" matches exactly and the 47" is actually priced higher than MSRP!

is this typical? when can we expect any sort of price discounting?

The m501d appears on Amazon now as well. Strange scene they've chosen for the picture. Is that Jim Sturgess? What movie is that from?

YEEEESSSSS !!!!

I just exchanged my 70" E-series due to a bad dirty screen look and the new one I got is better but you can still see that weird dirty screen lines in the panel on fast moving solid colors and especially white sky or green grass moving scenes (sucks for football).

I figured I would give it a try and if I got a Perfect panel then I would stick with it .... guess the e-series is just a cheap panel and now my sights are set on this M-Series 70" FOR SURE NOW!

So if it's on Amazon with 4-7 weeks the Costco should be getting this in stock easily within the next month I bet.

Time to start saving the extra cash needed to buy this over the price I paid for the e-series .... Looks like it's $2,500 ... hopefully Costco is like 2,449 or maybe even 2,399 or something like that ... still either way I need to come up with about 6-700 bucks more to get this TV.

But I'm There!!!!!

Lets keep the thread updated on when we could expect a Costco release.

Thanks for the updates and links guys. smile.gif

Does anyone know if this will support passing through a 5.1 signal from the hdmi inputs out the optical audio output? I want to be able to hook all my stuff up to the USB ports and then send the audio out to my sound stuff via optical audio in 5.1

lol funny they have a picture from Upside Down.. pretty under the radar movie. wasn't very good if i say so myself. I love sturgess after seeing cloud atlas though.

How does this usually work with Vizio for those who have followed their launch products in the past. Can we pretty much expect a $2,499 price point for the 70 inch or does it usually come out of the gate a few hundred cheaper than the MSRP?

I got the first vizio 65 inch 3d set. xvt3d650// and would love the 80, because the 65 is looking a little small now, but to keep things cool with the wife I'm out luck.

I'm looking at the 80 inch because my living room is 16 feet across. I've currently got a ten year old MIts 65 inch crt rptv which is beginning to show its age (but not so much that I have to buy immediately). I hope the 80 is a good set, because its got the size and features (passive 3d) I want.

Nice job finding those Amazon links guys. Funny too bc the sets still aren't for sale on Vizio.com. That said I would expect all that to change shortly with the sets going live on Vizio.com at the same time Amazon's shipping window shrinks to something like 1-2 days. Also, these early prices bode well for Black Friday. I think it's pretty likely that the 80" will be $3k at that point, right around the time they officially announce shipping/pricing on their 4K sets...

Nope. The only way you're going to get 5.1 that way is if it's from OTA. If you have a cable/sat box it won't work.

EDIT: If you have the optical cable from TV to AVR then yes you can get DD 5.1. Optical only carries straight DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1. HDMI carries all, (DD, DD True HD, DTS, DTS MA, DD Pro Logic, etc..). What are you hooking up the optical cable to? Usually if you have a 5.1 system with receiver the optical from TV to receiver will give you sound through the smart apps like Netflix, etc..

I have a M3D651SV (2012 model). I have it configured with Satellite box into tv via hdmi and optical out to my AVR. Also a Blu Ray player and a DVD recorder using hdmi into tv and Optical audio out to the AVR. I do get DD 5.1 out from all three sources this way. But you also mention USB ports? I don't know about those, I go through the hdmi ports.

I would assume you could do the same with the 2013 M series Models, It does NOT pass DTS 5.1 that way though. But my Satellite box dosen't have DTS output only my BluRay player. And to handl that I output coax audio from BluRay to my AVR.

Thanks
Rick

Curious though how valid these are right now ... based on one thing ..............

According to CNet ......

"All of the sizes in the series should ship in the first half with the exception of the 80-incher, which is a second-half product"

But yet Amazon is showing the 80" to release when the 70" and others do?????

I sure hope this is happening .... But to be honest for those you hoping to loop up a 80 Incher .... you may be out of luck .... It's not suppose to release with the other 60 and 70 inchers. And if I recall right a rep from Vizio at Januarys CES said this as well.

All the information about this are located here .... http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/vizio-m551d/4505-6482_7-35566547.html

I wouldn't put much faith on any availability rumors. I also heard the M series would be released in Q1 2013 but that's obviously passed. It'll happen when it happens I guess.

Unfortunately you're out of luck. The TV itself isn't able to pass DD 5.1 via optical cable from Blu-Ray/Console. Unless it's OTA Broadcast, (Fox, CBS, NBC, etc..) you won't get DD 5.1, at least this is what I've been told by many people in the audio forums. I've never tried it that way but it's always best to have your components hooked directly to your sound/playbar. How many optical inputs do you have on the Sonos Playbar? You might want to invest in a optical port switcher.

Amazon having it on their website for sale elevates this well above the rumor level. I guess it's possible that the shipment could be later than 7 weeks (which would put it around the first of July, the start of the second half of the year), but I've never known Amazon to offer vaporware for sale. I guess anything is possible, but it doesn't seem likely.
