Okay so after a bit of deliberating, I bought a Vizio 42" TV.

It reviewed pretty high on most sites and the reviewers talked about the qwerty keyboard being a plus.
On Amazon they sell replacement QWERTY remotes for the E420i-A1, eBay as well.
The MANUAL even references the QWERTY keyboard for the love of Pete.

Review: http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/vizio-lcd-tv/vizio-e420i-a1.html
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Original-Internet-keyboard-E420i-A1-E500i-A1/dp/B00AXY9CF2
Vizio Manual: http://store.vizio.com/documents/downloads/hdtv/E420iA1/UM_E420iA1.pdf

So based on what I've said so far you'd think the unit comes with a qwerty keyboard right?
See where this is heading?

After speaking with Vizio reps two separate times, they maintain that these units never came w/qwerty keyboards and a qwerty keyboard won't work with it.

Then why would people be selling these remotes, right?

They suggested another LED that costs $80 more and has a much lower Contrast ratio (2mil/1 vs 200K/1) so I'd rather keep it if possible.

My question is has anyone used this model with a qwerty?

Thanks,
LL

Have you turned-over the remote control. The other side, from my internet scouring would indicate that one side holds the TV controls, the other has a QWERTY keyboard...

Haha, no keyboard on the back TK-422. Imagine how embarrassed I'd be if that we're the case though : )

I'm wondering if it has the same hardware/software as the 50" model (which has a qwerty keyboard).

I'm just perplexed as to why there are remotes out there if they "won't work with the unit."

When I called, they were pushing the Co-Star box pretty hard which conveniently had qwerty and "would solve my problem." I was thinking, you do know I already bought one of our TVs right?

Wow. So I went ahead and bought the M420SL for the sole purpose of have QWERTY, and low and behold, the remote that came with it FREAKIN WORKS WITH THE E420i-A1!

How annoying that Vizio is either lying or ignorant about their own products.

I'll make a YouTube video in a bit.

Do you still have the vizio E420i-A1, and is the qwerty remote still work properly? I am looking to buy this tv and I want the qwerty remote.I know I can order it off the net separately as if I was buying it for the m420sl tv.

Thank you.

The remote worked fine. The part number of the remote is 098003061060.

There you go!

FYI, for anyone else with the E420i-A1 or thinking of getting, you can simply plug the USB key from any wireless keyboard into the USB port and you'll have a perfectly functioning QWERTY keyboard. I bought this TV yesterday and used the mini keyboard from an old HTPC and it worked fine!!!

I am getting a Logitech Wireless Keyboard & Mouse. If I simply plug in the USB key, I will be able to use this with the TV? I thought the USB on this particular TV was only for specific uses. Anything special I need to do other than just plug it in? This would be a real treat! Please let me know ... and thank you!
