I currently have no TV or antenna. I do not have access to cable and must rely upon BellSouth's DSL.

If you live in a rural area you may not be able to get OTA HD, but an easy way to know if you have HD channels available is to go here

That's a very good reference. However, I realize that the poet watches TV while I do not. I am not interested in any TV programming. Rather, I am only interested in viewing movies, i.e., streaming Netflix movies.

So the question is whether or not my DSL download speed is adequate to stream Netflix movies?

Your internet service provider should be able to tell you.

You can run the VUDU app on your set, and it will prompt you to run a test to see what speed you can stream content at. Or, run this test on a pc:

http://speedtest.vudu.com/

Customers should have at least a 1000 kbps (1 Mbps) broadband internet connection in order to enjoy the VUDU streaming service. With faster broadband connections, customers can enjoy VUDU's 720p HD and industry leading 1080p HDX format.

Minimum requirements for the VUDU streaming service are as follows:

SD (480p) requires 1000 kbps
HD (720p) requires 2250 kbps
HDX (1080p) requires 4500 kbps
If you can run VUDU, you can run Netflix.
