So this may be a stupid question but how do you change the battery in the 3d glasses? I see what looks like a coin or thumbnail niche, but I feel like I'm going to break something prying it off. The battery is replaceable right?!

I'v had my 55" w905 for a week or two now and iv just noticed the screen seems to have a slight green tint on the left hand side of the panel and redish tint on the right. Also the right seems a little bit brighter than the left. Is this usual for these sets or is this an issue i should address and get changed. I'm sat directly in front of the tv so the viewing angle is at its optimum.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Damn UFO those are some beautiful shots of your W900. That being said I just placed an order for a W900 from Sony! eek.gif Don't get me wrong I love my 46HX850 but the wife and I wanted to go bigger and after seeing the W900 up close and personal we just had to order one. The PQ is simply beautiful, in fact IT DOES beat the PQ of my HX850 AND I hate to admit that but I have to give credit where credit is due. The only thing I wish Sony would have done is had the gorilla glass on it but oh well. I'll give my own impressions of the W900 when I receive mine which should be in about 7-10 days. But seeing it up close and personal and seeing the photos you posted make me feel that it was a good choice and hell going from a 46inch to a 55inch is an improvement! What will I do with my HX850? I don't know yet but more then likely it will go to my mother and step dad who is looking for a flat screen and I know they will take care of it.

2014 Sony kdl and xbr leaked pricing links:

http://hdguru.com/sony-2014-hdtv-prices-leaked/#more-13192

http://hdguru.com/sony-2014-4k-uhdtv-prices-leaked/

Interesting that one can get Sony's new "extended dynamic range" in the w950b series but must go up to the x900b to get the same with the x850b not having it.

Seems the 55w950b has been slightly degraded (480 from 960 motionflow, 120 hz refresh rate from 240 hz I think, no more deep black panel, when compared to the 55w900a although it does gain extended dynamic range.  The only 2014 model that still has a deep black panel is Sony's top of the line x950b's.  From my understanding and experience, the deep black panel enables the tv to have the monolithic inky black look when turned off.

But the new 65w950b is a slighly improved (with the extended dynamic range) over the 65w850a since the 65w850a never had 240 hz refresh rate, nor 960, nor deep black panel.

I do believe the 2013 55w900a is a unique kdl model with great attributes never to be made again in the kdl series!

I personally love my 55w900a in watching the winter olympics not that my that my 55hx820 is not as good, it's just a little different PQ.  Triluminous and brightness does give the 55w900a an agreeable edge.

I think the extended dynamic range is being used as a patch for the move to IPS panels (which is also likely why the deep black is disappearing.) It will be interesting to see what the black level on these new TVs is and if it's close enough to the current panels to make that compromise more desirable in order to gain wider viewing angles.

Yes, it will be very interesting to see how the panels test out.

The deep black panel helps with glare and reflections also. Yes, The KDL55W900 is an XBR Bravia in disguise. A beautiful well designed TV.

I just purchased this tv, love it so far. Is there a way to map Scene Select to the remote? For example to switch back and forth between Game Mode and General - rather than having to to go Home -> Preferences -> Scene Select, etc?

The quickest way I'm aware of is to hit the OPTIONS button and go to [Scene Select] which is the first choice.

Hiya, ordered a KDL-55W900A to call my very own yesterday, hoping to see it shipped tomorrow. When I saw the newer models (specifically the W900A) wouldn't have Gorilla Glass, I too was a little concerned. But I seem to recall reading somewhere (wish I could recall specifically where) that the W900A uses a similar glass, made in Japan by a company called Asahi Glass Co., called Dragontrail. This Dragontrail stuff looks extremely strong and flexible, and if in fact it is being used on the W900A, I imagine we have very little to fear about scratching it. Here is a YouTube video describing the product. (And if in addition to being strong and flexible, it also makes for a lighter panel; then that can't be a bad thing, can it?) smile.gif Enjoy your new set, and I'm also looking forward to some post-calibration settings (hoping they become available--I hate doing all the hard work lol)

So, I'm currently staring at the Samsung UN60F6300 in my living room, it's deal pixel (in the center of the screen) mocking me. About to return it and pull the trigger on the W900. I had a question that I couldn't find an answer to with search. I've heard people have to turn gaming mode on and off. Does the W900 support individual picture settings per input? Also, does the set support ARC and if I use an HDMI input for ARC, will the system disable it under the inputs menu? It drives me nuts that the ARC input on the Samsung is HDMI2, and I have to scroll past it every time to go from STB to Console.

Thanks in advance. I really can't wait for the TV on Saturday, I was floored by it when I saw the display TV at Bestbuy.

while I can't answer your ARC question, I can tell you the w900a does let you configure individual picture modes per input.

After doing some research and asking a Sony insider I indeed found out that Sony uses the Dragontail glass on the W900A. They were going to use the Corning Gorilla Glass/Opticontrast Panel but the contract between Corning and Sony ended so they went in another direction. And Sony wanted a different look for the W900A. I was told I wont be disappointed with the PQ or the black levels of the W900A. It is more then a suitable replacement for the HX850 I was told, we shall see. smile.gif I got a verification email from Sony yesterday afternoon confirming my order and hopefully I will get another email today that its being shipped. I cant wait. Enjoy your set as well. biggrin.gif

The W900A does indeed support individual pic settings per input. I do believe it also supports ARC and I don't know why it wouldn't. The HX850, the set it replaced did, so I don't see why the W900A wouldn't either.

Remember, just because the glass is hardened and scratch resistant, that doesn't mean the coatings on top of the glass are the same. You run into this with phones all the time. It's tough to scratch the glass on a gorilla glass phone, but the oleophobic coating is much easier to scratch.

This screen absolutely has anti-reflective coatings applied to it, so you still need to treat it with kid gloves as much as possible to prevent the possibility of scratching the coating.

What are you guys doing about extended warranties? I bought my in best buy and of course they try to shove their protection plan down your throat... I usually deny this but since this is a pretty spendy purchase I'm reconsidering. Does Sony have an extended warranty you can buy? Or maybe I should just go with the best buy one (5 years is like $330). Or maybe I should just go with the basic manufacturer warranty it comes with... Any ideas?

The extended warranties from Sony are a much better value too. I'm pretty sure it's $250 for 5 years.

Are black levels deeper on General scene settings vs Cinema? Is it just me or am I going nuts?

Hiya,
for movie watching I discovered that Cinema 1 is much better in terms of smooth gradation. When there are scenes with colorful clouds in the background I can just not believe how good it looks and for me it is better and more natural than with General scene setting. Try Riddick (2013) for that it also had some very dark scenes where you can discover your preferable settings. As far as black it is concerned I'm very satisfied with Cinema 1 too. But OK again, I have EU version W905A so there might be some small differences which can impact on the final results.

best, d.

I was flipping through youtube yesterday looking at the W900A videos and I came across a video from Japan that showed a W9 on display with a full glass front like my HX850! Also the back of the unit looked NOTHING like the US version, it was gloss black! WTF Sony? mad.gif It was beautiful is all I can say.

Going to be picking up my w900 today. I'll post after I get some time with it. I went to BB to check out the w900 next to a Sammy 8000, and I was floored by how pretty the Sony was. And $500 cheaper than the Samsung right now. After having my last 2 Samsung arrive with dead pixels, I'll never buy their tvs again. Their customer service and support for their soundbars is terrible.

$1725. They have it at the lowest available price. Unless I go open box or refurbished. At least at who will price match.

Folks...just got my 55" KDL-W900a a few weeks ago (on the great reviews here an elsewhere) and I don't know what I'm missing but I am not happy with it.  I have used recommended settings and tried my own settings but, with certain HDTV images there seems to be almost a haze over the picture.  Seems to be more so on something like a drama program than a sports program like the Olympics.  Maybe I have something set up incorrectly?  Not sure but it is driving my CRAZY!!! Any thoughts?

Thanks to all.

Lawrence.
