Congrats on your X850A. As far as I can tell, the X850A is the same exact set as the W900A with the addition of 4K added to the X850A. Enjoy!

After reading your post bigwali I checked the spec's of both the X850A and the W9 and your right. Both sets are pretty much the same save for the bezel around the frame of the X850A is gloss and the W9's isn't and the X850A is 4K and the W9 isn't. But they are pretty much identicle. I congradulate T.Man as well on his purchase.

I don't think the x850a has the low input lag though.

Yeah, there are a bunch of differences actually. As someone just mentioned, the panel glass and bezel being 2. Edge and backlighting tech is the same but seems to be more uniform on the 4k and no pixel issues to be heard of.

Where did you hear or see that there's no quantum dots in the 4k? It's definitely trilume but no quantum dots? This review says it is but did the reviewer get it wrong?

The X850 does not use the Quantum Dot Tech, that was dropped by Sony in 2013, they now use another method with Triluminous. The panel on the W9 is glass, they use Dragon glass as someone posted earlier. Also input lag is better on the W9 then the X850 which is why Gamers love it so much. The TV's are pretty much the same save for 4K and trust me I am sure the X850 has uniformity issues and pixel issues like all TV's do you just have to get lucky to get one that don't have those issues. Its called the Panel Lottery which I and others on the forum's have played, I have too many times to count until I got lucky with my W9.

Late to the party, looking to get this model before it's out of stock.

I have a bunch of credit/GCs at amazon. Considering getting their warehouse price for $1320 plus tax vs new for 1700 plus. Anyone w experience in getting this from amazon warehouse? Also have sony GCs, do they have any guaranteed refurbished policy similar/comparable to amazon.

What are some recommended core inspections to do before signing off on delivery ?

Just be careful, I am pretty sure Amazon warehouse deals do not come with a manufacturer warranty which also means you might have trouble getting any type of extended warranty from a third party. The TV would be considered used and not refurbished.

I am referring to the X850a. I don't know if the X850b uses Quantum Dot tech or not maybe someone else here like UFO can verify that or not. But I do know that Sony is using another tech instead of Quantum Dot on some of their 2014 TV's and the X850a is one of them from what I was told.

Well I've had my set for a few days now and I have some issues.

When using my xbox 360, I'm getting blown out highlights and some crushed blacks. The highlights are almost unbearable, way way too white...i'm losing all detail. I notice this in games and when using netflix . It seems like some parts of the game are like a glowing white (is this blooming?) while others are too dark. For an example with netflix, when watching top gear and the camera is in the car showing a host, the sky outside is just stark white.

I've tried changing some settings, but cannot seem to tone it down without making it look washed out/dull.

Does anyone have this problem? Do you have settings that I could try? What settings should I have with the xbox as well?

Steve,

A Sony rep explained the difference between 2014 and 2013 Triluminous tech to me this way:

On 2013 models the edge LED's shine through tiny cylinders containing the quantum crystals (dots), then out to the panel.

On 2014 models they have abandoned the separate cylinders and are putting a coating of quantum dots directly onto the surface of the LED's, thus removing a costly physical step.

I read a similar explanation on a link someone posted here.

It has been hypothesized that the edgelight "fingers" on the 2013 w9's may be caused by the led's shining through the quantum crystal cylinders, prompting the immediate change to the new process. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 Triluminous 1080p panels have the problem. This may be found to be a panel design flaw and replacement panels may be offered. Time will tell.

Hey I..h thanks for the info buddy. A panel desin flaw and replacement panels may be offered? From Sony? I'll believe that when I see it. Besides I see no flaws at all in my panel so Sony aint touching a thing! But if its free I might reconsider. We shall see.

Do I have a bad set?

or maybe my hdmi cable is bad? Ill try swapping out cables.

I've also noticed gradiation( or banding, I think?) in some scenes with a solid color area. Basically, it's noticeable lines where colors should be gradually shifting.

Can someone recommend replacement active 3D glasses for the w900a with a larger viewing area? The 3D glasses that ship with the w900a are small and we see the frames while viewing a 3D movie.

I sent this over to my friend who works at SonyListens.com to confirm this I...h. He has been a huge help to me and pretty much answers everything I throw at him. I believe you buddy so don't think that but IF their is going to be a panel replacement deal because of a design flaw I want to be made aware of it. I think after spending what I did I deserve it and so do the rest of us. I will let you know when I hear back from him.

I don't think you have a faulty set its just your settings and if I was a gamer I would help you out but I aint. It also may be a HDMI cable issue but I aint sure of that either but I would try a different one.

I hate the 3D glasses that came with the set as well and I would like a recommendation as well. confused.gif

Steve, et al, have you seen Bluray upscaled to 4K? If you have a Bluray that can do that a 4K set may be worth it. But I have not seen it yet. May be worth checking into though.

On the W9 try manually setting the HDMI dynamic range to Full. VERY IMPORTANT? And keep the Xbox 360 HDMI setting to
Extended. I've posted this many, many times in this thread. Both the 360 and X1 doesn't send a signal to the
TV saying it's HDMI full and therefore you get crushed blacks. If this doesn't fix your problem then there might be other
Settings on your W9 are off.

Steve, et al, have you seen Bluray upscaled to 4K? If you have a Bluray that can do that a 4K set may be worth it. But I have not seen it yet. May be worth checking into though.

I ineed have seen it pokey and while it looks good it aint good enough from me to dump my W9 for a 4k tv. They have to do ALOT better then that and I mean alot better. I am very happy with my W9 so I am staying put.
