I would just use any Sony TV remote the store has. It not specific to model.

Got a W905A and i´m searching for a media server software that can transcode DTS to DD 5.1 to my sonos playbar.  Serviio doesn´t work. Plex can transcode to DD 5.1 on the fly but messes up the aspect ratio. Any other ideas?

Well its official. The W9 has been officially discontinued and replaced by the Wedge Shaped W950B. mad.gif In my personal opinion it was one of the best TV's ever made by Sony and their 2014 sets pale by comparison. More then likely it will be the last great non 4K set made by Sony for a long time to come because it looks as though Sony has shifted their full focus on 4K with regular HD sets taking a back seat which means quality will no doubt suffer. Thank god I bought my current W9 last month while I had the chance.

I caved in and picked up the Best Buy Display Model. I am very pleased with this TV, been searching for one for ages. Cannot wait to play with the settings over the next few days. I just finished the factory reset. I am just so happy to get my hands one.

I didn't get squaretrade because I was worried they wouldn't cover open box items. I just ended up getting the geek squad although it was more expensive.

I normally don't buy extended warranties, but at a cost of $2000 for the W900A I just didn't feel comfortable without it. Purchased the Square Trade EW (+3 years) at Costco.com for $99, which is a bargain.

Anyone that's looking for an excellent Blu ray player to pair with their W900 I highly recommend the Sony BDP S6200. Watched Avatar last night and holy crap what beautiful PQ displayed by both the 6200 and my W9. The 6200 takes every advantage that the W9 has to offer and more PQ wise. This is the best Blu ray has looked to my eyes in quite awhile. I finally found a player that takes advantage of the W9's capabilities and show's them off beautifully. I cant wait to watch Gravity 3D tonight!

Just to let all my fellow W9 owners know...there is a new firmware update for the W9. It is: PKG4.430AAA. My W9 down loaded it this morning and what its for I have no clue since Sony's site is notorious for not giving reasons for the update's right away. I am assuming its for apps and so fourth. So that's just an FYI for those interested.

More then likely the new update is for the addition of more useless app's that they put on this excellent set. I mean does anyone here really use the app's on their W9? I use my S6200's apps but the streaming app's only. The rest are a waste of space. I have saw no performance improvement on the W9, as if it needed one, and no difference with PQ, as if it needed any improvement in that area. I am waiting for an explanation from Sony on what the new update is for and why the hell it was needed.

I use the Netflix app, which is much preferred to the Roku2 I was using prior. Haven't used any of the other apps.

Check out the Oppo 105 for stunning PQ and awesome SQ.

Pokey I have checked out all the Oppo's and they are all very nice except they are way out of my price range for a Blu ray player. I picked up the Sony S6200 which is more then good enough for what I am looking for in a Blu ray player plus it matches up very well with my W9. Now I am not saying I will never buy an Oppo Blu ray player but unfortunately not anytime soon. That being said. I don't use any of the apps on my tv like I said. That's another thing I use my 6200 for.

Hi all
Ok, so I have been through reviews and took note of some of their settings but the issue is they normally list best setting for standard viewing.....often guess what it is they are using as ref material.
What I am trying to do is find the best setting for
TV=
Blu Ray 2D=
Blu Ray 3D=
There will be changes due to higher backlight/contrast for 3D

Anyone got good settings for both of these? or a review that points out setting for both 2d and 3d?

Another person glad I went with this set. Last of their greats.

Only thing (sort of) lacking on my Oppo is xvcolor. I'm interested in seeing one of those Sony Mastered in 4k blus to see if there's a noticeable difference. The Sony player you got does xvcolor, maybe you have to turn it on in the settings I don't know, but the current Oppo's don't. The W900A's xvcolor setting is on Auto by default, I think.

Yes you have to see one of the Mastered in 4K Blu rays red because they look excellent even on a non 4K tv like my W9. The xvcolor is on auto for both my tv and 6200. I watched the remastered in 4K Amazing Spiderman and I was blown away by the PQ and the clarity of what I saw. It was far better then the regular Blu ray version in my opinion. If Oppo can support the xvcolor tech then they will be even better then they already are if that's possible.

I know it's sacrilege to some here on this forum, but I've been running with Live Color on either medium or high over the last week. It looks amazing. "Director's original vision" be damned.

I must still be in the honey moon phase because I still look at this set with googly eyes.

I have had my second W9 since May and I still am in the honeymoon phase as you call it. I sold my first W9 because I found out it wasn't new but refurbished, nothing wrong with that but I like my things new especially when I shell out the cash that I did. My second W9 is better then the first and brand new and its simply the best HDTV I have yet to own and one of Sony's best. That being said I have Live Color set to off because in my honest opinion the W9 don't need it on, the colors are brilliant with it off. But if you like yours on that's all that matters. I might turn live color on tonight to test it out and see if I like it.

I've sure you've you've flipped through the different levels of Live Color, but let me tell you. I paused a match of the World Cup and with Live Color set to Off, the pitch looked like it needed watering. As I moved up the setting, the greener/more lush, the grass looked.
Is Live Color: High reference, heck no, but it's definitley more asthetically pleasing.

Well Mrke I turned my Live Color on and set it to medium and WOW! What the heck was I thinking by leaving it off? The colors just popped. Avatar on Blu ray was just beautiful. Thanks for the heads up.

I also have Live Color on:
- for HTPC with ATI Radeon card I have it on Low
- for Cable TV program I have it on Medium.

But it was important for me to fine tune this also in relation together with White Balance. By this I really achieved realistic colors. For reference I use our national HD TV channel during the news as they are frequently showing the places I'm familiar with and also there is a lot of direct sports shows.
For HTPC i calibrated in relation to the reference movie Avatar and photos I made in the nature and inside my apartment so that I have a direct comparison with reality.

I'm more than happy with the result as such.
best, d.

I'm more than happy with the result as such.

delfincek, do you mind sharing your settings? I'd like to see them if possible. This is the first Sony HDTV that I have owned where Live Color actually works and makes the PQ better then it already is! I was stunned while watching Avatar how beautiful the color's were, even my wife made the comment on how beautiful the PQ was. After the movie I switched back to regular HD programming and again I was stunned on how better the PQ looked with Live Color on! I think what it is is Live Color takes advantage of the Quantum Dot/Triluminous tech the W9 has built into it, that's what I believe anyway and I could be wrong. What Live Color does on the W9 is take what is already beautiful PQ and takes it one step further. Never thought I would say it but Live color is better on then off.
